Some of the competiti on areas and training maps will be within biking distance from the EC. Up to 120 places of high quality accommodation is available at the EC. The restaurant in the Event Center will provide dinner to participants on a pre-order basis. Wi-Fi internet service will be available for free at the Event Center. Venues around Budapest 3

The organisers believe that riding on the Mass Start will give limited advantage to Long participants, but to ensure equal access, participants of the EMTBOC and EJMBOC are allowed to start in the Open classes on 27 June, the day of the WMMTBOC Mass Start competition. Elite riders may also take part in the open sprint classes on Thursday, 28 June, as training. Competition rules IOF MTB Orienteering Competition rules 2018 International specification for MTB Orienteering Maps 2010 MTBO World Cup 2018 Special Rules Off road riding is allowed only in areas marked as freely rideable open area or when specifically allowed on a given day. Off road riding is strictly prohibited in all other areas, including forests, settlements, cultivated land, orchards, vineyards and all other open areas not marked as rideable. Competitors riding off road in restricted areas are responsible for any damage claimed by the landowners and will be disqualified. Majority of controls will be located on paths, though some may be located in freely rideable open areas. 4

5 Classes, Entry regulations European Championships: ME, WE (individual), Mixed Relay European Junior Championships: M20, W20 (individual), M20, W20 relay (born in 1998 or later) World Masters Championships: M/W 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85 Please note: For WMMTBOC two adjacent classes in the same decade shall be merged if either or both have fewer than 5 entries. For example, if there are fewer than 5 entries in the W50 and/or W55 classes, the two classes shall be merged to make a single W50 class. The classes W70, M70, W75, M75, W80, M80, W85 and M85 shall always be offered in five-year age groups, regardless of the number of entries. Open individual: Open A (equivalent to M40), Open B (equivalent to M17/ W40), Open C (equivalent to M14/W60) Open Relay: M120, W120, X120, M160, W160, X160, Open Each relay team shall consist of 3 riders. The EMTBOC Mixed relay teams and the X120 and X160 open relay teams shall have at least one female rider. In Open Master relays, all members of a team shall qualify at least for M/ W40 classes. The organisers may merge relay classes if there are less then 5 teams in M or mixed, or less than 3 teams in W classes. EMTBOC/EJMTBOC registration is required to enter quarantine and other areas reserved for EMTBOC/EJMTBOC participants and team officials. Team officials registered for EMTBOC/EJMTBOC can participate in WMMTBOC races without additional registration fee. On EMTBOC/EJMTBOC competitors are representing member Federations of the IOF, defined by the International Olympic Committee as belonging to the European continent. Competitors representing other member Federations of the IOF can participate in EMTBOC/EJMTBOC but will not be eligible for European titles, medals or diplomas, but their results will be part of the World Cup result list. EMTBOC/EJMTBOC competitors who are representing a Federation shall have full passport holding citizenship of the country of that Federation. 5

6 For EMTBOC In the individual competitions a Federation may enter a maximum of 6 riders in each class. In each competition format the current World Champion and European Champion shall be given a wild card in addition to the entries from his/her Federation. In the relay a Federation may enter 4 teams each consisting of 3 riders. Only the better-placed team will count in the prize list. Incomplete teams and teams with riders from more than one Federation are not allowed. Under no circumstances may persons other than entered competitors participate in the competition. For EJMTBOC For each individual competition a Federation may enter a maximum of 6 competitors in each class. The organising Federation may have two additional competitors as official EJMTBOC competitors for each individual competition. These competitors shall start in the lowest ranked start group. A Federation may enter 2 teams in the Relay. If a Federation is represented by two teams in a relay class, only the team with the better result is considered in determining the placings. For WMMTBOC Participation in WMMTBOC is open to all competitors according to their age classes. No restriction for Open, except for age restriction for unofficial Masters Relay, where all participants shall be at least 40 year mature, and the sum of the age of team members shall be at least 120 or 160, respectively. 6

Entry deadline for WMMTBOC participants is 15 May at normal fees, and 5 June at 50% late fee. Terrain description and map details All terrains are located within 30 km from the Event Center. All maps are surveyed in 2017/2018 according to ISMTBOM 2010 specifications. All special map symbols used will be detailed in Bulletin #3. All maps will be produced using waterproof technology. Wednesday, 27 June, Mass Start for Masters Finish area within 5 km from Event Center Map: 1:15,000 / 5 m Terrain: Hilly karst area with elevation differences of over 400 m. Tricky route choices due to hgh elevation differences. High variation in road quality in rideability. Rocky patches, small gullies, ruts may challenge less technical riders. Rain may increase rideability challenges due to combination of mud and rocks. Half of the roads are well used, half of them are seldom travelled. Off road riding where allowed - is unlikely to offer advantage except for visiting controls placed near roads. 7

8 Thursday, 28 June, Sprint for Juniors and Masters Finish area 21km from Event Center Map: 1:5,000 / 2 m Terrain: Urban park forest. Flat area with maximum elevation of 30m. Dense path network. Please take care of walkers and runners. Majority of the paths offer easy fast riding, but in some areas sand patches may tricky challenges. Off road riding is permitted, but typically does not offer advantage. This area was used for local training. Link to the video and the map of the most recent April 2016 training is available on the website. Friday, 29 June, Long Finish area within 5 km from Event Center Map: 1:20,000 and 1:15,000 / 5 m Terrain: Hilly karst area with elevation differences of over 400m. 9 Saturday, 30 June, Middle and Sunday, 1 July, Relay Finish area 20 km from Event Center Map: 1:15,000 and 1:10,000 / 5 m Terrain: Mediterranean style karst area. Rolling hillsides with maximum elevation of 100m. One part is forested requiring more simple navigation. The other part of the terrain is semi open with tricky patches of high density path network. Off road riding is possible where allowed - and may required in up to 10% of riding distance. There might off track controls in the semi open area. Riding in this area may benefit most from increased puncture protection. Time keeping system Sport Ident Air+ with 150 cm detection range will be used on all events. SI Active Cards (SIAC) required. Competitors who do not own a SIAC may rent one from the organisers for 10 for the whole event, or by one for 70. The organisers provide backup SIAC cards to all participants if they wish to use one. The cost of the backup cards is included in the entry fee. The backup cards are silent cards that do not replace the main competitor cards. They provide backup only if a primary chip failure is suspected. The loss of rented and backup SIACs will be charged at 70 to the team of the athlete. Training opportunities Official training camp is organized on June with Villapark Várgesztes as center (same as for MTBO Wolrd Cup 2015). Please contact the organisers on info@mtbo.hu before 20 April, if you wish to participate. On Thursday, 21 June, there will be a regular Thursday mass event 8 km from Budapest Airport on terrain similar to the Sprint event of Juniors and Masters. On 23 June, the Vértes Bike Adventure, a 3 and 5 hour long score will be organized, also with Villapark Várgesztes as center. Training maps near Budapest, within riding distance of the Event Center will be available, but no controls will be placed on the terrain. Should you wish to receive help to organize a training camp at any other time, please contact the organisers on info@mtbo.hu at least 2 months before your planned dates. 9

10 Embargoed areas and other restrictions The Organisers would like to call the attention of the participating teams to the following rules that will be taken seriously to ensure that all three Championships (Junior, Elite and Masters) are run under conditions that are as fair as possible. Due to the combined nature of the World Champs, all participants from a given country will be treated as one team. The areas shown on the map aroud Budapest are embargoed for all orienteering activities, unless specifically permitted by the Organizers. The above areas are out of bounds for all potential participants and team members, including competitors, team leaders, coaches, doctors, escorts, and any other person who through their knowledge of the terrain may influence the result of the competitions. Breach of the above rules may result the exclusion of the participant and its team from one or more days of the competition. Spelt out in details this means: - no organized orienteering activity may take place in the area, - no training sessions may take place in the area, - no one with potential connection to a team (athletes or others) may visit the area, - no accommodation of athletes and team members is allowed within the area. Copies of the most recent orienteering maps of the areas are available from the website. None of the areas had MTBO events on them at least for the past 4 years, except for the one to be used for Masters and Junior Sprint. The Sprint area was used for training last time in April To ensure reasonable fairness, a link to a 52 min headcam video with accompanying map is available from the website. On 9 June there will be a large MTB Marathon Crosskovacsi crossing the areas of Mass Start and Long distance days. Riders who participate on this MTB event will be banned from participating on the Mass Start and Long events, but are allowed to start in Sprint, Middle and Relay events. 10

11 Anti-Doping Control Doping is strictly forbidden, and the organizers are dedicated to supporting the anti-doping authorities in their work. Doping controls may be carried out any time during the competition period. As some sites for the doping controls may be a few minutes drive away, we suggest that athletes are prepared at all competitions to take along some dry clothes to change into after their race. Doping tests are always carried out in accordance with the procedures described in the WADA International Standard of testing. The IOF Anti- Doping Code and rules valid at the time of the event apply. Athletes who are selected for the doping tests must bring an official identification (with photo) to the doping test area. The athletes should bring along their therapeutic use exemption (TUE) if applicable. In general, it is advisable that the athletes bring along their ID to all the competitions and events. Please find more information about anti-doping at http: /orienteering.org/ anti-doping. All teams are requested to submit their accommodation details for all Elite riders who do not stay at the Event Center, and a contact phone number for the team. There have been random doping tests carried out by the Hungarian Anti-Doping Agency on past Orienteering World Championships in Hungary. Media Services Media representatives are cordially invited to come to Budapest to cover the event. Registration for media entry should be made in to info@mtbo.hu by 20 April Media facilities will be available only to registered media representatives. 11

12 Entry permits to Hungary Hungary is a full Schengen member state. The following IOF full member countries require visa to Hungary: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cameroon, China, Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, Indonesia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, DPR Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Mozambique, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, and Uganda. Visas have to be applied for at your nearest Hungarian embassy. The organizers will assist participants as required to obtain visas. Please make sure that you allow for sufficient time (at least 3 months) for invitation letters and visa processing. Please note that visa regulations are subject to change. Please double check your specific visa requirements. Accommodation Budapest offers a wide selection of accommodation that caters to different tastes and budget. High quality accommodation for up to 120 people is offered at the Event Center in high quality apartments and cottages. Standard booking periods are for 7 nights from 24 June or 6 nights from 25 June with possible extension upon request. Studio for 2 people (28 sq.m) with kitchenette: HUF 27,700 per night Cottage for 4+1 (68 sq.m) with kitchen and sauna: HUF 49,950 per night Cottage for 6+1 (88 sq.m) with kitchen and sauna: HUF 73,050 per night Booking deadline: 1 April The event website lists a set of bike friendly accommodation options that participants may contact for cheaper and shorter stays. The list will be updated periodically. If you require basic hard floor sleeping area, please contact the organisers via info@mtbo.hu before 1 April indicating your requirements. Catering Dinner will be available at the Event Center on a pre-order basis. Details, including menu will be available from the event website. 12

13 Local Weather End of June in Hungary is warm with average daily highs around 26 C. Typically daily highs stay between 22 C and 30 C. The number of sunny hours is 250 in June. June rainfall is the highest in Budapest averaging 63 mm for the month, but this varies considerably from year to year. Transportation Local transportation can be arranged upon request.
