Page No: 4 1 Introduction 1.1 Purpose As required by Rule 2.6.2, this guide describes the methodology that may be adopted to carry out the measurement of Draft (D) and Bowsprit length (BSL) of a Volvo Open 70 in addition to verifying some of the initial shed measurements. A measurer may depart from the procedures detailed herein when the circumstances prevent these procedures from being followed and when the alternate procedure produces results of equivalent accuracy and repeatability. This guide is not intended to describe all of the measurements that may be carried out when establishing Rule compliance of a Volvo Open Scope This guide applies to the measurers and participant representatives tasked with carrying out the measurement. 1.3 Roles The participant s personnel will carry out the preparation for the measurement and will supply all labour and equipment (other than measurer supplied equipment) as necessary to facilitate the measurement. Key responsibilities for the activities are divided between the following positions; Title Organisation Role Measurer Volvo Ocean Race S.L.U Control the measurement process. Coordinate the participant representatives during measurement and carry out measurements as required. Supply specified measuring equipment. Technicians Participant Undertake measurement related activities including marking, moving of equipment and components etc. Participants representative Participant Liaise with Participant as necessary to ensure all preparations are complete, and all equipment and labour are available. 1.4 Definitions and Acronyms For the purposes of this procedure any acronyms shall be as defined in the Volvo Open 70 Rule Version 3.

ROOM FOR CLEAR PASSAGE OF TAPE ALONG LENGTH OF BOAT Guide: Ashore Measurement Revision: C Page No: 6 2 Commencement Prior to commencing the procedure, the requisite components and equipment will be assembled and available on site. 2.1 Boat The boat shall; be fitted with keel, bulb, rudders and daggerboards. The keel shall be positioned in the boat centre plane and preferably hanging unsupported. (With prior approval from the measurer, the keel may be supported by blocks to replicate the buoyant forces acting only on the bulb and fin (approx. 7400N) but the team are responsible for developing the methodology and supplying the equipment to measure the applied force to the satisfaction of the measurer.) be set up level relative to DWL both fore and aft (+/- 3mm) and transversely (+/- 2mm). have clear passage beneath the cradle for a steel tape measure to pass the full length of the boat. A mousing line shall be led under the cradle to allow a tape to be pulled through. have clear room under the deepest part of the bulb to allow a straight beam of approximately 50mm x 50mm SHS to be aligned transversely and wedged or shimmed level relative to DWL. DEEPEST PART OF BULB SHIMS OR WEDGES AS NECESSARY TO LEVEL BEAM BULB 50x50 SHS BEAM CRADLE GROUND MOUSE LINE TO ALLOW TAPE MEASURE TO BE PULLED THROUGH have clear access from the outermost extremity of the bowsprit to the LLF. have clear access to fully lower the daggerboards.

Page No: Measurer supplied equipment The measurer shall supply; All tape measures, steel rules, staffs etc required to take the official measurements. A digital spirit level or equivalent. Plumb bobs or 5 axis self levelling laser. An automatic level. 2.3 Participant supplied equipment The participant shall supply; A scale drawing of the keel and bulb assembly with the keel positioned both on the centreplane and at the angle of cant consistent with the maximum draft of the keel below DWL. Any increase in draft as a result of keel cant shall be dimensioned. All labour necessary to assist in the measurement process. All scaffolding, scissor lifts etc to enable the measurement points to be safely reached from the ground.

Page No: 8 3 Activities 3.1 Initial measurement Prior to the arrival of the measurers the owners representative shall coordinate an initial measurement of the boat. This shall include all activities detailed herein. By conducting their own initial measurements prior to the arrival of the measurers the team can confirm the actual measurements of the boat against the designers expected values. These initial measurements also serve as a useful cross reference against the official values as determined by the measurer. Any discrepancy between the initial results and the official results can be identified and investigated at the time of official measurement. Carrying out initial measurements also helps to identify any obstructions to the measurement process prior to the arrival of the measurers. The results of the initial measurement shall be made available to the measurers. 3.2 Establishing Fore and Aft Level A measurer shall hold a staff or equivalent against the RPF screw and RPA screw. Using the automatic level, the second measurer shall sight the screws at each end of the boat and confirm that it is level longitudinally within (+/- 3mm). 3.3 Establishing Transverse Level A measurer shall hold a staff or equivalent against the RPL screws port and starboard. Using the automatic level, the second measurer shall sight the screws on each side of the boat and confirm that it is level transversely (+/- 2mm). The measurer shall record the heights of the RPL screws. 3.4 Establishing keel centre A measurer shall hold a tape measure on the RPL screw port and the second measurer shall measure diagonally to a reference point marked on the trailing edge of the keel approximately 100mm up from the fin/bulb interface. The measurers shall then repeat the measurement on the starboard side and confirm that the two measurements are equal. The measurers shall then move inside the vessel and establish a distance from a fixed reference point within the keel box to a permanent mark on the keel head. This measurement shall be recorded. Pictures ought to be taken. This measurement shall be recorded and shall be later used to establish the centreline position of the keel when conducting the cant measurement.

Page No: 9 RPL EQUAL LENGTH EQUAL LENGTH RPL REFERENCE POINT 3.5 Validating Shed Measurements Using a plumb bob (weather permitting) or self levelling laser, project LLF down onto the ground and mark. Using a plumb bob (weather permitting) or self levelling laser, project the aftermost point of the hull on the centreline down onto the ground and mark. Referring to the original shed measurement data, note LLA c. Tension a tape measure beneath the yacht and measure between LLA and LLF. Taking LLA c into account, verify LH. 3.6 Measuring Draft (D) A measurer shall hold a staff against the bulb port and starboard resting on the SHS beam beneath the deepest part of the bulb. Using the automatic level, the second measurer shall sight the distance from the SHS beam to the datum port and starboard. If either of the rudder(s) or daggerboards(s) extends below the bottom of the bulb then the measurers shall repeat the measurements for those appendages. In the event of a bulb section being essentially parallel to the SHS beam, the measurer shall take measurements as necessary to validate the supplied bulb drawing. The draft shall be recorded as the average height to RPL + the average height to the deepest appendage corrected as necessary to allow for any increase in draft as a result of appendage movement.

Page No: Establishing Bowsprit Length (BSL) Using a scissor lift, scaffolding or other safe access, the measurers shall measure the horizontal distance from LLF to the extremity of the bowsprit. This measurement shall be recorded as BSL. 3.8 Appendage angles Using a digital level the measurers shall measure the lateral angles of the daggerboards and rudders. These measurements shall be recorded. 4 Verification Complete the measurement verification checklist. During the measurement the owner s representative shall have the opportunity to verify any measurement that the measurer records. 5 Completion Upon completion of the draft & out of water verification the measurer(s) shall formalise their notes and measurements recorded and provide a copy of the draft (D), bow sprit length (BSL), and keel centring reference measurements to the participant s representative and the Chief Measurer..
