8 Follow My Leader Objective Develop boat handling skills Learn to accelerate / decelerate Key Steps Nominate person follows the RIB then fall in behind. Keep 1 boat length apart RIB will go upwind/downwind, speedup slow down but keep your position If you blow it then go to the back of the group
9 Individual Windward Return Focus on developing at YOUR speed Individual tacks and gybes Something goes wrong, stop and talk it through Get the order right rather than rushing! When comfortable pick up the pace 2 tacks in a row, gybe and gybe back

36 Drop Give yourselves plenty of time & room Bear Away need the space Crew gives sheet to helm as they come in Crew pulls from the block Pull hard on downhaul to split the kite, then fire off the halyard Helm must have twinners off- but pull the port one to get pole to starboard.

38 Tuning Overview Key Controls Jib / Mainsheet Kicker, Cunningham Strop, Rake, Tension, Lowers, Outhaul Key Points to Remember Don t oversheet the jib (or main) Focus on the now!
39 Light Winds Focus on keeping the boat moving Weight Forward Aim Flat Sails, Open Leeches Pre-Bend on the rig, lots of tension aim to keep flow over sails Don t over sheet always focus on ease Go for pace not point
40 Intermediate Straight Mast, Lots of Power Get crew on the wire early, (helps stiffen the mast) Sheet in the main until it hurts and then much much much more! -> Pointing. Only ease if breeze dies or go into chop. Max Power Call
41 Over Powered (just) Setup for the lulls, flap for the gusts faster than setting up for lulls Starting winding up the kicker to flatten the main Be sure to unload kicker when breeze dies If breeze builds more can ease rig tension (not racing) prior to dropping the pins

58 The Course Start between S and CB First lap: Start, Round mark 1 to port. Round mark 2 to port. Pass between 3 & 4, leaving either 3 to starboard or 4 to port. Subsequent laps: 1 to port, 2 to port, between 3 & 4, leave 3 to starboard or 4 to port. Last lap: 1 to port, 2 to port, finish as per SI 9.
59 Dual Leeward Mark Gate makes it easier to get fleet round Use Either Mark Take the most upwind one (if a choice) If really busy consider the less busy one Can be a bit of a bun fight. Dragging Marks!
60 The Start Think about less crowded end, but on the front row Priority is speed off the line Pre-Start ensure kicker not fully on On approach crew with lazy sheet in their hand avoid the stall Time on Distance relative speed differentials high. Port Tack Pete will only do it once!

62 Downwind Priorities Pace, Pace, Pace Sail in the Breeze Never a straight course Use the waves to your advantage Cover gybe is the killer
63 Race Smarts Training events vs. performance events Out the edges of the fleet vs. consolidation if required Windward marks port tack cowboy. Lose pace when you tack, so minimise number of tacks. Sail in the breeze! both up and downhill.
64 Self Coaching Take notes of your settings Analyse what went wrong not you did that wrong Write it down on Sunday night, re-read on the way to the next event. Work together to eliminate the issues. Score your performance on scale of 1-10, and work on the weak spots, not the good spots
