RULES The 2008 Commodore s Ocean Classic Cup will be governed by: 1.1 the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) ; 1.2 Yachting Australia Inc (YA) Prescriptions and Special Regulations (SR) 1.3 All yachts competing in the Night Race on Friday 25 January shall comply with YA Special Regulations Part 1, Category All yachts competing in other events of this series shall comply with YA Special Regulations Part 1, Category International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea 1.6 any class rules as applicable, 1.7 Notice of Race (NOR) and these Sailing Instructions (SIs). 2. NOTICE TO COMPETITORS Notice to Competitors will be posted on the Official Notice Board located in the front of the Sailing Office at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Ltd. (RQYS) or Mooloolaba Yacht Club (MYC) 3. CHANGE TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Any change to the Sailing Instructions will be posted on the Official Notice Board before 0700 hours on the day it will take effect 4. THE COURSE 6.1 Charts required; AUS 235, AUS The Courses to be sailed by the yachts are as follows: Manly to Mooloolaba Start, Lockyer Light (P), Green Island (P), M8 (S), EK1 (P), M3 (P), NW12 (S), NW1 (S), NW2 (P), NW Fairway (P), Gneering Shoals (P), Finish 7. THE START Mooloolaba to Manly Start, NW Fairway (S), NW2 (S), NW1 (P), NW12 (P), M3 (S), EK1 (S), M8 (P), Green Island (S), Lockyer Light (S), Finish 7.1 Races will be started in accordance with RRS The code flag for all divisions will be Code Flag D 7.3 Individual recalls will be in accordance with RRS Boats which have not started correctly will be notified on VHF Channel Starting Line Manly The starting line will be positioned approximately 1nm west of the Lockyer Light, between a staff on the RQYS Committee Vessel to starboard and an orange/pink inflatable strobe lighted to port A starting limited mark may be laid on or near the starting line (or floated from the committee vessel) and for the purpose of the application of the rules, shall be deemed a part of the vessel which is protects 7.5 Starting Line Mooloolaba The starting line for the Commodores Ocean Cup Race from Mooloolaba to Manly will be between the flag mast on the MYC Committee Vessel to starboard and a yellow laid buoy to port, positioned to the north of the Mooloolaba entrance A boat staring later than ten minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start (DNS) 8. THE FINISH 8.1 Finish Line Mooloolaba The finish line will be between the port lateral beacon at the entrance to the Mooloola River and a yellow inflatable buoy with 2 strobes After rounding the Gneering Shoal mark, yachts are to contact Race Control on VHF 73 and report their estimated finish time Yachts are requested to record their own finish time and report this time to Race Control on VHF 73 as soon as practical on completing the race Yachts are requested to favour the other end of the line, and maintain clear of Point Cartwright Shoals, which break 8.2 Finish Line Manly The Finishing Line will be between a staff on the RQYS Committee Vessel to starboard and an orange/pink teardrop buoy to port. The finish line shall be in Waterloo Bay approx. 1nm from the Lockyer Light towards the outer Manly entrance beacons. 9. TIME LIMIT The Time Limit for the Night Race (Category 3) shall be 1845 on Saturday 26 January The time limited for the Day Races (Category 4) shall be 1845 on Sunday 27 January Commodore s Ocean Classic Cup - Page 3

PROTESTS 10.1 Protest Forms will be available from the RQYS Race Committee 10.2 For each race the protest time will be 1 hour after the last boat has finished 10.3 Protests will be heard as soon as possible in approximately the order of receipt 10.4 For the purpose of rule 64.3(b) the authority is the RQYS Measurer 11. SCORING / HANDICAPS Racing and Cruising Group Monohull Yachts will race in both IRC and PHS division. To be considered for IRC or OMR division results a yacht must have a valid rating certificate 12. SAFETY REGULATIONS 12.1 When sailing in or near the vicinity of major shipping channel, commercial shipping has absolute right of way. Sailors are reminded of their obligations under the International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea and that at close quarters the master and / or pilot of a large vessel may not be able to see smaller craft. Any skipper found to have hampered the passage of a commercial ship will be banned form competing for a period to be determined by the Sailing Committee 12.2 Competitors attention is drawn to fundamental RRS 1 and RADIO COMMUNICATION 13.1 VHF Channel 73 will be used for all radio communication. If contact can not be made of VHF 73 the Race Control can be contacted on mobile (Suellen Hurling) All yachts intending to start shall notify the Race Committee Vessel on VHF Channel 73 not less than 15 minutes prior to the Warning Signal 13.3 A position reporting schedule will be conducted by Coast Guard Mooloolaba during the race using VHF Channel 73 as follows: Night Race Group Saturday 26 January 0005 hours and 0605 hours Day Race Group Saturday 26 January 1205 hours and 1605 hours Day Race Group Sunday 27 January 1205 hours and 1605 hours 13.4 All yachts in the Night and Day Races to Mooloolaba are to contact the Race Control on VHF Channel 73 as they round the Gneering Shoals and provide and estimated finish time 13.5 Any boat that retired from a race shall notify the Race Control on VHF Channel 73 and Coast Guard Mooloolaba on VHF Channel 73 or contact RQYS Marine Sports Office on as soon as possible On the night race to Mooloolaba, yachts shall maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 12 between the start and the Fairway buoy in order that they can be communicated with by Commercial Shipping. On the Day Race to Manly, yachts shall maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 12 between the Fairway Buoy and the Finish, in order that they can be communicated with by Commercial Shipping 13.7 On the Night and Day Races to Mooloolaba, the first yacht to cross the shipping channel shall contact Brisbane Port Control on VHF 12, while the last yacht to pass Caloundra Fairway Buoy shall also contact Brisbane Port Control on VHF 12. The same procedure shall be followed in reverse for the face from Mooloolaba to Manly Commodore s Ocean Classic Cup - Page 4

5 14. DISCLAIMER Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. The Organising Authority, its officers, members servants and sponsors shall not be liable for any material loss or damage, personal injury or death sustained by reason of participation or intended participation in their event. Attention is drawn to ISAF Fundamental Rule INSURANCE All boats competing in this event should have third party insurance cover of not less than AUD $5 million (recommended $10 million) for any incident. (Refer Notice of Race) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BBQ at Mooloolaba on Saturday Night 26 January 2008 A BBQ will be available to all competitors from 1800 hours in the park directly across from the Mooloolaba Yacht Club on Saturday night 26 January at a cost of $5.00 per person.
