Tod and Anne Herrick (Doors open at 6:30 pm) Commodores Report As I look out past the snow on the deck and the pier, at the slick of ice on the river, it is hard realize that in a few short months we will be sailing on that river! That is what gets us through this very cold winter! The GSA General Meeting will be held on Tuesday, 22 January 2019 at 6:30 PM. We meet at the Middle River Yacht Club off Nanticoke Road. Our speakers will be Tod and Anne Herrick, speaking about their cruise to the Keys and back. At the meeting the Budget will be presented, as will the proposals to our Bylaws. The proposals will be read by the Commodore and voted upon. There will be no discussion. The GSA Winter Party First Party of 2019! Maybe we will even talk about our favorite topics, boats, racing and cruising. The party is a Pot Luck! Appetizers, Entrees, Veggies and Desserts are needed. Each year the food gets better and more delicious. We will vote the best in each category. If you are not a cook, stop and pick up something yummy! Look forward to seeing you at the meeting and the party, Sandra Allen Commodore GSA Treasurer s Report The Glenmar Board of Directors have been hard at work on our 2019 Budget over the past months with much discussions & resolutions. We are now presenting this Budget (see page 3) herewith for this next year for review and approval by all members at this January General Meeting as provided in the Glenmar By-Laws. I am glad to report that we have managed to again have a 2019 Balanced Budget. Please review the figures, and I will be at this meeting to answer any questions. Jack Janos, Treasurer 1

2 PRHF Fleet Captain s Report: Happy New Year one and all, the days are getting longer and Spring is just around the corner. Well maybe down a few darkened streets before we get to the corner but I think we can agree that we re going in the right direction. Plans for our Glenmar 2019 season are already underway. The PHRF Race Policy Committee has their first meeting on Wednesday January 16 th. One of the initial duties of this committee is to finalize our racing schedule. I believe we already know that the first Wednesday Night Race will be held on April 24 th, just fourteen weeks away. We also know that the Northern Bay Regatta will be held on Saturday June 29 th and Sunday June 30 th. We are working, and committed, to make this event bigger and better every year. While we just in the planning stages let me share my vision for this event. We will kick things off in the afternoon of Friday June 28 th when the Maryland Yacht Club will once again welcome all competitors by offering the use of their facilities (including the bar). A dinner will be provided at a nominal cost and slips will be offered for just $25. On Saturday morning we intend to host two different races, one for racers and another for cruisers. The cruisers will have a Pursuit Start, something I had planned for last year but was unable to provide. The cruisers will each start between a mark/buoy and a landmark near the mouth of the Patapsco at an assigned time. There will be no flags and no horns just start by crossing the imaginary line at your assigned time and the first boat to the finish in Middle River wins. We will publish the course in advance using government marks so you can do your navigation before even casting off. The racers will have a separate starting area in the vicinity of Seven Foot Knoll and will also race to Middle River where a big après race party is being planned for all competitors, guests and members. A very fun party I promise! We will be scheduling a Northern Bay Regatta Planning Meeting sometime in early March and any member of our club that would like to contribute to the effort is welcome to join us. We also need volunteers for race committee and hospitality during the event. In addition to being fun this regatta is an opportunity for our club to generate much needed surplus funds. Last year our Northern Bay Regatta showed a profit of over $1,200. That was with about 35 registered boats. Let s shoot for 50 boats, or even 60. Wouldn t that be something? Let s offer some real Glenmar Northern Hospitality to sailors from all over the Bay and have fun doing it. Please save the date, tell your crews, and plan to participate or volunteer. Most importantly please help us promote this event to all the sailors you can. Michael Johns, Fleet Captain Rear Commodore s Report: The winter party is coming quickly; before you know it the boats will be hitting the water. I know I'm ready for a good sail! I have some ideas for the coming season that I would like to share. I was thinking for Memorial Weekend we would go to Swan Creek and then over to the Magothy. The next cruise will be the Grandchildren s Cruise which we are moving up to the beginning of the season as many had suggested. Due to scheduling concerns, June 22nd looks the best weekend. After that, it is Northern Bay Regatta where we join up with racers from around the Bay, beginning with a cruise to Maryland Yacht club on June 29th. Then we participate in a race in our own cruising class. Details are still being developed so keep an eye out as we get closer! The Corn Roast is usually mid-july; however, a date has not yet been determined. Regarding the Family Cruise, I would like to spend time on Chester River August Last year we had great fun racing against each other from port to port and we had a surprising amount of good wind for some good sailing! This gives Tod room to plan a cruise August 24th through September 8th as he plans to go south this coming winter. I am open to all suggestions and requests. GlenMar Sailing Association - Proposed Additions to By Laws Note type is black is current by-law language and type in Blue indicates the proposed additions/revisions Proposed Addition ARTICLE l l l Board of Governors - The terms Board of Governors and Board of Directors (BOD) are used interchangeably in this document Proposed revision to By-Laws Article IX, Section 1.No non-budgeted appropriation or expenditure of the Corporation in excess of Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250.00) shall be authorized except by approval of the Board of Governors by a majority vote of those members present at a regular meeting of the Board of Governor or duly called special board meeting. A special board meeting can be accomplished electronically. The Board of Governors may, at their discretion, move budgeted expenditures between categories with approval by a majority vote of the Board of Governors at a regular meeting of the Board of Governors having a quorum present. Revision Explanation The dollar amount was increased from Two Hundred ($200.00) dollars to Two Hundred Fifty ($250.00) dollars. Proposed Addition to By-Laws Option 1 Article VI, Section 2 Types of Membership (h) Introductory Membership Section 3 Definition of Membership Types (h) Introductory Membership: Is available to any new member who makes application to the board. The board can allow Introductory Membership, for the members first year only, at a reduced rate of 50% of the regular member dues and with the waiver of the initiation fee at this time. Should the Introductory Member desire Regular Membership in their second year they would pay the Regular Members dues rate and the initiation fee at that time. The Introductory Member shall be entitled to all the privileges of the Association including the right to vote and hold office.
