1 2018 Australian Formula 18 Catamaran National Championships Monday 22 nd to Saturday 27 th January 2018 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Organising Authority: Jervoise Bay Sailing Club Inc. (JBSC) in conjunction with the Australian Formula 18 Catamaran Association. The notation [DP] in a rule in the SI means that the penalty for a breach of that rule may, at the discretion of the protest committee, be less than disqualification. RULES 1.1. The Regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing The Prescriptions and Special Regulations Part 2 of Australian Sailing will apply The Racing Rules of Formula 18 Events published by the International Formula 18 Catamaran Association will apply. 2. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS 2.1. Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located at the clubhouse. Version /01/2018 Page 1 of 7

2 3. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 3.1. Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted at least one hour before the first race on the day it will take effect, except that any change to the schedule of races will be posted by 1800 on the day before it will take effect. 4. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE 4.1. Signals made ashore will be displayed on the flag pole in front of the clubhouse When flag AP is displayed ashore, 1 minute is replaced with not less than 30 minutes in race signal AP. 5. SCHEDULE OF RACES 5.1. CLASS FLAGS 6.1. The class flag will be the F18 class flag. 7. RACING AREA 7.1. Attachment A shows the location of the racing area. Version /01/2018 Page 2 of 7

3 8. THE COURSES 8.1. The diagram in Attachment B show the courses, including the approximate angle between legs, the order in which marks are to be passed, and the side on which each mark is to be left No later than the warning signal, the race committee signal vessel will display the approximate compass bearing of the first leg. 9. MARKS 9.1. Marks 1, 2s and 2p will be yellow inflatable buoys Mark 1a will be an small yellow inflatable buoy The starting and finishing mark will be an orange inflatable buoy. 10. THE START Races will be started by using RRS 26 with the warning signal made 5 minutes before the starting signal The starting line will be between the orange flag displayed on the race committee vessel at the starboard end and the starting mark at the port end. A clearance mark may be streamed from the start boat. This clearance mark is deemed to be part of the start boat for the purpose of RRS 31 and shall be passed on the same side as the start boat when starting A boat that does not start within 5 minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start without a hearing. This changes RRS A4 and A CHANGE OF THE NEXT LEG OF THE COURSE To change the next leg of the course, the race committee will move the original mark (or the finishing line) to a new position Except at a gate, boats shall pass between the race committee vessel signalling the change of the next leg and the nearby mark, leaving the mark to port and the race committee vessel to starboard. This changes RRS THE FINISH The finishing line will be between the orange flag displayed on the race committee vessel at the port end and the finishing mark at the starboard end. 13. PENALTY SYSTEM RRS 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty. 14. TIME LIMITS The time limit for the first boat in each race shall be 90 minutes Boats failing to finish within 30 minutes after the first boat sails the course and finishes will be scored Did Not Finish without a hearing. This changes RRS 35, A4 and A PROTESTS AND REQUEST FOR REDRESS Protest forms are available at the race office. Protests and requests for redress or reopening shall be delivered there within the appropriate time limit. Version /01/2018 Page 3 of 7

4 15.2. The protest time limit is 60 minutes after the last boat has finished the last race of the session or the race committee signals no more racing for the session, whichever is later Notices will be posted no later than 60 minutes after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses. Hearings will be held in the protest room located in the clubhouse beginning at the time posted Notices of protest by the race committee, technical committee or protest committee will be posted to inform boats under RRS 61.1(b) Breaches of SIs 10.3, 17, 19, 20, 21 and 22 will not be grounds for a protest by a boat. This changes RRS 60.1(a) On the last scheduled day of racing a request for redress based on a protest committee decision shall be delivered no later than 30 minutes after the decision was posted. This changes RRS SCORING One (1) race is required to be completed to constitute a series When fewer than five (5) races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores When from five (5) to eight (8) races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score When nine (9) or more races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her two (2) worst scores. 17. [DP] SAFETY REGULATIONS Sign-on / Sign-off: Competitors will be required to Sign-on before going on the water and Sign-off when coming ashore, using the Sign-on / Sign-off Board next to the beach ramp. Sign-on will be open one hour before the first scheduled warning signal of the session or when AP is removed if displayed ashore. Sign-off will be open until the end of protest time for that session Competitors shall wear personal flotation devices at all times while afloat, except briefly while changing or adjusting clothing or personal equipment A boat that retires from a race shall notify the race committee soon as possible. 18. [DP] REPLACEMENT OF CREW OR EQUIPMENT Substitution of competitors will not be allowed without prior written approval of the race committee. Requests for substitution shall be made to the committee on forms available at the race office Substitution of damaged or lost equipment will not be allowed unless authorised by the race committee. Requests for substitution shall be made to the committee at the first reasonable opportunity on forms available at the race office. 19. [DP] EVENT ADVERTISING Boats shall display event advertising and bow numbers supplied by the organising authority. Instructions will be supplied with the bow numbers. If this rule is broken, World Sailing Regulation applies. Version /01/2018 Page 4 of 7

[DP] SUPPORT BOATS Coaches/support boats shall make themselves available at all times while afloat to assist the race committee in the case of an emergency or rescue, as directed in person by the relevant race officer or via VHF radio Unless directed by the race committee, team leaders, coaches and other support persons shall stay outside areas were boats are racing from the time of the preparatory signal for the first fleet to start until all boats have finished or retired or the race committee signals a postponement, general recall or abandonment. 21. [DP] TRASH DISPOSAL Trash may be placed aboard support or official boats. 22. [DP] RADIO COMMUNICATION Except in an emergency, a boat that is racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats. 23. PRIZES Prizes will be awarded in the following categories subject to entry numbers: Overall Mixed team Master the helm and crew shall be aged 50 years or older (both crew members born before 1 st January 1967) Youth both helm and crew shall be under 23 years of age (both crew members born from 1 st January 1995 and beyond). 24. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority and all parties involved in the regatta will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta. 25. INSURANCE Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance with a minimum cover of AUD $10 million All competitors who submit the Entry Form are deemed to have made a declaration that they hold such cover.
