1 2019 Sanders Memorial Cup February 2019 The Organising Authority is Horowhenua Sailing Club Venue Motuoapa (Southern end of Lake Taupo) NOTICE OF RACE NB: The notation *DP+ in a rule in the Notice of Race means that the penalty for a breach of that rule may, at the discretion of the protest committee, be less than disqualification. 1 RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. 1.2 The Yachting New Zealand Safety Regulations Part 1 shall apply. 1.3 The Javelin Class Rules and Restrictions July 2008 will apply. 1.4 The sailing instructions will consist of the instructions in RRS Appendix S, Standard Sailing Instructions, and supplementary sailing instructions that will be available at registration 2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 2.1 The regatta is open to all boats of the Javelin class. 2.2 For the Sanders Cup the regatta is open to a single representative Javelin Class Yacht from each New Zealand province as defined by the New Zealand Rugby Football Union refer Javelin class Association. 2.3 Entries will be accepted until the closing date of 1200hrs on Friday 22 nd February 2018, by completing the attached entry form accompanied by a fee of $80. Electronic Transfer to Sanders cup account number: Sanders Cup Association To be eligible to compete in this event each competitor shall be a financial member of a club recognised by the competitor s national authority. 2.5 Each boat, shall be a member of the Javelin class owners association. ($50 Javelin class owners association account Please put your name and sail number in the reference fields.) 3 FEES Required fees are as follows: CLASS FEE Javelin $80 Note: $10 of this fee is a levy for the sanders cup association.

2 4 SCHEDULE 4.1 Registration: Friday 22 February 09:00 12:00 Motuoapa marina 4.2 Measurement: Friday 22 February 09:00 12:00 Motuoapa marina, with a Sailors briefing at 12: s of racing: Event Warning Signal Number of races 22 Feb Kingham Trophy 13: Feb Sanders Cup After Kingham 2 23 Feb Sanders Cup 11: Feb Sanders Cup 11:00 2 Target time for the Sanders Cup races is 40 minutes. 4.4 On the last scheduled day of racing no warning signal will be made after 15:00. 5 MEASUREMENT A boat shall comply with RRS 78.1 at all times when racing. Sails that have not previously been measured shall require measurement prior to racing. 6 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The supplementary sailing instructions will be available at registration. 7 VENUE 7.1 Attachment A shows the location of the regatta venue. 7.2 Attachment B shows the location of the racing areas. 8 THE COURSES The diagrams in Attachment C show the courses, including the approximate angles between legs, the order in which marks are to be passed, and the side on which each mark is to be left. 9 PENALTY SYSTEM 9.1 For the Javelin class RRS 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty. 10 SCORING races are required to be completed to constitute a series a) When fewer than 6 races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores. b) When 6 or more races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

3 11 RADIO COMMUNICATION Except in an emergency, a boat that is racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. [DP] 12 PRIZES Prizes will be given as follows: Kingham Trophy Sanders Memorial Cup First place in the invitation / Kingham trophy race First place in the Sanders cup regatta 13 INSURANCE Each participating boat shall be insured with valid marine third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $1,000,000 per incident or the equivalent. Certificate of insurance is to be presented at registration. 14 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. 4 Attachment A Location of venue (Motuoapa Bay, Lake Taupo) Off water base for the event is 29 Kohotea Place, Motuopa, Lake Taupo. (this is about a 5 minute walk up the hill) There are no bar facilities (BYO). There are toilets a the rigging area, and an outside shower. Hot showers are available from event base.
