Trevor Boundy 130 Cleveland 80" Playboy Senior - First Test Flights 1 message Tandy Walker <rdb435021@icloud.com> To: Tandy Walker <rdb435021@icloud.com> Cleveland 80 Playboy Senior July 11, 2018 My standard 80 Playboy Senior was built for the SAM R/C Electric Texaco event. The model weighs 52 oz. The NEU 1107/6D Motor fitted with a 5.2:1 gear box uses a 2-cell 1300 mah LiPo battery pack to run a 16 X 12e APC prop. The model was completed nine months ago on October 15, 2017, but was never flight tested until this morning. I met my friend Burt Grant at the Greater Southwest Model Club field just north of Arlington th morning at 7:30 a.m. It was dead calm, 77º F, with a heavy dew on the manicured grassy field. The hi broken cloud overcast blocked out the morning s rising sun making it ideal conditions for the Playbo first test flights. Douglas Ordon arrived at the field with his realistic MK IX Spitfire shortly before started the first flight. Burt took these flight test pictures using my 6S iphone. Confirming the correct rudder and elevator control deflections. 1 of 9 14/7/18, 10:06 am
The Playboy was slow on the takeoff roll out due to wet grass. However, the model did accelerate and lifted off without a difficulty. Just after lift off the model started turning to the right requiring constant left rudder correction as full left tr was not enough to straighten out the flight path. 2 of 9 14/7/18, 10:06 am
I turned left, cut the power, and started setting up for a quick landing as shown below. The Playboy handled well in the landing approach as you can see. 3 of 9 14/7/18, 10:06 am
The rudder linkage was adjusted to correct for the right turning tendency and the model was re-flown on its second flight. was taken to altitude and the power was cut to evaluate the glide. The elevator trim was adjusted to very near a stall minimize sink rate and this Playboy proved to have a beautiful glide. On the way down, I brought the Playboy overhead so Bu could take the picture below. 4 of 9 14/7/18, 10:06 am
A fresh LiPo motor battery was installed and a third confirming flight was made. I couldn t tell if there was any wind alo but I did notice in the glide the Playboy near a stall did not seem to be penetrating much at all. However with a little elevat down trim, the model started coming back to the field. Burt took another overhead picture shown below on this flight. Burt got this good shot of the Playboy just prior to the last landing. 5 of 9 14/7/18, 10:06 am
The radio was turned off and I headed home well satisfied with the Playboy Senior s 3 sets of test & trim flights. 6 of 9 14/7/18, 10:06 am
Once home, I measured the left rudder trim shown below. The rudder s clevis linkage was readjusted back to its origi position and the Futaba T7C transmitter s SUBTRIM function was used to set in the rudder s left trim deflection. 7 of 9 14/7/18, 10:06 am
The Futaba T7C s SUBTRIM function was also used to set in the elevator s down trim deflection for gliding flight. Even though the Playboy Senior is now pretty well trimmed out, I plan to fly it several times over the next few weeks 8 of 9 14/7/18, 10:06 am
develop a proficiency on handling it. I want to try some thermaling and also be sure to fly in wind to determine how to g reasonable penetration Tandy 9 of 9 14/7/18, 10:06 am
