2 1. RULES i. The Regatta will be governed by: i. the Invitation to Enter and these Sailing Instructions ii. the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing and amended in these Sailing Instructions. iii. the Yachting Australia Prescriptions and Special Regulations Part 1, Category 6. iv. Whilst a yacht is operating under its engine, the International Regulations for Prevention of Collision at Sea will apply. ii. Changes to The Racing Rules of Sailing i. RRS 26 is changed as per Appendix Four ii. RRS 29.1 is changes as per 9.v iii. RRS A2 is changed as per 12.i iii. Should a Strong Wind Warning be current, non self-righting boats will be unable to compete. iv. No advertising is allowed unless provided by the organisers. v. The Organising Authority (QCYC Inc.) reserves the right to amend this document up until the start of Race 1 of the Regatta. 2. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS i. Notices to competitors will be posted on Regatta website and at the Clubhouse administration office window. 3. BRIEFING AND SIGNING ON i. There is no skippers briefing scheduled. ii. Skippers are not required to sign on however, skippers not intending to race on any given day should inform the Regatta Director. 4. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE i. Before the first race of the day, flag AP with two sounds means Racing has been postponed. ii. Following a postponement before the first race of the day, Flag w with one sound means The warning signal will be made approximately 60 minutes after flag W is displayed. 5. ORAL INSTRUCTIONS i. At any time prior to the warning signal for a race, the committee may make alteration to the Sailing Instructions. This will be signified by displaying Code Flag L from the committee vessel. All 1 entrants shall come within hail and receive instructions. CLASSES & DIVISIONS i. The fleet will be divided into the following divisions: i. Division One Vintage Yachts & Gaffers ii. Division Two Small Vintage Yachts iii. Division Three Spirit of Tradition Yachts iv. Division Four Vintage dinghies ii. Division Four and Two may be combined into one division (Division Two) should entry numbers dictate. 8. THE COURSES & MARKS i. Divisions One and Three shall sail the Long Courses. ii. Division Two and Four shall sail the Short Courses.

3 iii. Each race has two potential course versions depending on the wind direction. Prior to each race the Start Boat will fly with an Orange flag to signify the use of the orange course version or a Blue flag to signify the use of the blue course version. iv. The diagrams in Appendix One show the courses for the Orange Courses. v. The diagrams in Appendix Two show the courses for the Blue Courses 9. START & FINISH i. Races will be started as per Appendix Three. ii. The Starting and Finishing Line are described in the course descriptions. iii. The Starting and Finishing lines will be located near to the Cabbage Tree Creek leads. iv. The Start Boat may have a protection buoy (barging buoy) near its stern. Competitors must not pass between this buoy and the start boat. v. Any boat that crosses the starting line in the direction of the course less than 1 minute from her starting signal will be considered as having started and will be penalized 5 minutes on elapsed time. Restarting is not an option. The exception to this rule is in the case of a General Recall. This changes RRS TIME LIMITS i. There will be no time limits other than boats still racing as dusk will be deemed to have not finished and scored a Did Not Finish 11. PROTESTS i. Protests shall be lodged within one hour of the protesting yacht finishing the race. If this is impractical, the protesting yacht shall advise the finishing officials of its intentions. A $50.00 fee will accompany protests. ii. A mediation hearing may be conducted for all protests after which the protest may be withdrawn and the fee refunded. 12. SCORING i. The Low Point Scoring System of Appendix A will apply except that a boat s score will be the total of all races scored. This changes RRS A2. ii. One (1) race is required to be completed to constitute a regatta. 13. ADDITIONAL SAFETY PROVISIONS i. No anchors are allowed to overhang the bow while racing. Exemptions to this requirement may be granted upon application at the sole discretion of the Organising Authority. ii. Engines may be running but not in gear from the Warning Signal of each race until two minutes after the Starting Signal. iii. Engines may put into gear during the period outlined in 13.ii for the purposes of avoiding a collision. 14. RETIREMENTS i. A boat that retires from a race shall notify the race committee on VHF77 as soon as possible. 15. OFFICIAL BOATS i. The start boat for Saturday and Sunday will be marked with a either a blue or orange flag depending on which courses are being used. Call sign: QCYC Start Boat ii. The mark laying boat/ safety boat for Saturday & Sunday is a blue RIB. Call sign: QCYC RADIO COMMUNICATION i. The Race Committee may transmit and receive race information and time checks on VHF Ch CONCOURS D ELÉGANCE i. Judging for the Concours d Elégance element of the Regatta will occur whilst boats are berthed at the marina on Saturday morning and evening and Sunday morning. ii. Competitors who wish to bring additional small craft may display them on the lawn area adjacent to the slipway within the QCYC grounds. Please identify them in some way. There is no additional entry charge. 18. PRIZES i. Prizes will be awarded for 1 st and 2nd in each of the Divisions based on points as per section 12. For divisions with more than 5 boats, 3rd place shall also be awarded. i. The winner in Division One shall receive the Ted Rice Shield ii. The winner in Division Two shall receive the Williams Trophy 2

4 ii. Overall Line Honours for the Regatta for each Division shall be awarded. i. In Division One the Deagon Slipways Trophy shall be awarded. ii. In Division Two the Australiawide Boat Sales Trophy shall be awarded. iii. Concours d Elégance awards will be presented in the following categories: i. Best presented wooden vessel overall Albert Jeays Trophy ii. Best presented Vintage vessel Marco Polo Shield iii. Best presented gaff National Trust Shield iv. Best presented small boat Wasson Shield iv. Other awards: i. Best performance by a QCYC boat (awarded to lowest point score) ii. The Most Competitive Yacht Award will be awarded to the winner of the most competitive division which has at least 7 entrants. The most competitive division is the division with the least corrected time difference between 1st and 4th place added together for each of the races. iii. Best scratch performance by an Amity Yacht Amity Trophy iv. Most improved performance as judged by the Race Committee v. Furthest Distance Travelled Frauken Trophy (only awarded in the case of significant distance) vi. Spirit of the Regatta award as judged by the Race Committee vii. Smallest boat to complete at least ¾ of all races viii. Oldest boat to complete at least ¾ of all races ix. Best start of any race x. Misfortune award v. The main Presentation Ceremony will occur at the Club at approximately 1700hrs on Sunday. 19. DEPTHS IN CHANNEL INTO CABBAGE TREE CREEK i. Depths though the channel are good with at least 2m LAT available. ii. The QCYC Marina has good levels of water. Despite this, deep draft vessels should check with the Club before entering a specific berth. iii. Tides: 23 rd July 24 th July Low 0607 Low m 0.41m High 1148 High m Low m 1.98m Low m 20. DISCLAIMER OF ENTRY Competitors participate in the Regatta entirely at their own risk. See Rule 4, Decision to Race. The organising authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. 21. INSURANCE Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $10,000,000 (ten million dollars) per event or the equivalent. 3

Refer 9.v General recall. All boats are to return and then a new start sequence will begin from the Warning Signal onwards. Signalled when there are unidentified boats over the line or there has been an error in the starting procedure. The new warning signal will be made 1 minute after the 1st substitute is removed. SHORTENED COURSE S Should the recall be for the LONG COURSE race, the SHORT COURSE start will be after the repeated LONG COURSE start When displayed at a rounding mark the finish is between the nearby mark and the boat displaying the S flag. Yachts will be finished in the normal manner. ABANDONMENT N All races are abandoned. No more racing today POSTPONED AP Races not yet started are postponed. NOTICE POSTED L When displayed afloat means: Come within hail or follow this boat. When displayed ashore means: A notice to competitors has been posted. 10
