2 Dear Prospective Sponsor, The Hobie Cat Association of WA (HCAWA) strives to provide opportunities for everyone in our community to participate in healthy, safe and exciting sailing activities in a fun and family orientated environment. The association is managed by dedicated volunteers, all of who tirelessly provide their skills, time and assistance to ensure the club can offer a variety of structured programs. As we are a community sporting association, our major source of revenue is generated from membership fees and sponsorship support provided from individuals & businesses. The funds and support provided are used by the association to conduct regular sailing regattas and events, and for the support of all members. The Hobie Class Association of Western Australia understands that in the current economic climate, organisations require value for any sponsorship. Thus the committee has put together a sponsorship proposal for your consideration. Sponsorship comes in various forms and different types of sponsorship provide different levels of support to the association. Whilst funding is always a main target, sponsorship provision of product & services and/or significant discounts to products & services also are significant to the success of the association and its events.

3 History The HCAWA was incorporated in 1976 in Perth. The association was formed to support and to conduct the racing activities of Hobie sailing catamarans. Hobie catamarans are made in various sizes and types (classes) with their origins from California in the 1960s. During the mid to late 60s the Hobie catamarans became the most popular sailing dinghies in the world. Easily recognised by its banana hulls and colourful sail pattern the Hobie 16 has become the most popular catamaran ever and the most competitive catamaran class in the world. Over 200,000 Hobie Cats are sailing around the world. Demographics The Hobie sailing community is proud to be a fun and competitive race environment with a strong aspect on social togetherness on and off the water the Hobie way of life. The HCAWA currently has membership ages ranging from 12 years to 70 years. Male and female participants are close to a 50:50 ratio this is somewhat uncommon in the sailing circles and is positive reinforcement of the culture in our association. We are a state association and have members residing as far south as Esperance and as far North as Broome. The majority of members are from the Perth area. The Western Australian fleet of Hobie cats is the largest in the country and has produced some extremely talented sailors. Within our fleet we have the current Open World champion, runner up, previous Female World champions along with numerous Australian Titles to the name of our members. The association has a following interstate and internationally. Events The fantastic climate in Western Australia allows sailing to be a year round sport. Typically the competitive sailing season will be conducted on a weekly basis from September through to the end of April and revert to monthly events and regattas during the winter months. Along with club racing which is conducted on a weekly basis the HCAWA also conducts 2 major regatta events each sailing season. 1. The Cat Classic : Last weekend in September A state-wide regatta held at Nedlands in Perth for all sailing catamarans under 6.8m not just limited to Hobie sailing classes. 2. WA Hobie State Championships : March Long Weekend - 1st weekend in March Annual State Championship regatta for all Hobie classes. This regatta is run at a different venue each year, alternating between a metro and regional venue consecutively. Every 5 years the HCAWA will host the National Championships for all Hobie classes at a nominated venue with Western Australia. Attracting competitors from all across Australia and also internationally. This event typically occurs between the 29 th of December and the 5 th of January on an annual basis alternating between state hosts.

Media The HCAWA maintains a website at http://www.hcawa.org.au which is used as a platform for members and the association to communicate.

The website also provides a mechanism to introduce potential new members to the association and as a potential advertising and promotional space for sponsors. The association is also present in social media activities, utilising Facebook and Twitter. These social media forums are used not only to promote communication within the association and its members but significantly during events to promote sponsors and report event information to the wider community who maybe following at a distance. A mailing list ( ) is updated on a monthly basis and is used by the HCAWA as a further communication tool. It is noted that the mailing list also includes recipients that may not necessarily be financial members of the association but whom wish to follow the clubs activities and hear news about events and the members. Some of these recipients include interstate and international person in the sailing community, past members, sponsors and industry figures. During the summer racing season a weekly race recap for Perth based sailors is provided by an association committee member. State and National events attract social media, Television and Radio station attention. Advertising In addition to opportunities in advertising association sponsors through the above noted media channels the sport of sailing also provides further possibilities to promote company branding: Naming rights for events, series or race programs Branding on event documentation; including but not limited to Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions & Results Display of corporate banners and flags at event sites Corporate branding of competitors boats (logo stickers etc) Promotional material handout with event registration Promotional and product handouts for prize giving
