2 Boat Manual As every boat is different we have put together a few hints as to how it all works. Below Decks The Heads Otherwise known as the toilets or the bathroom. The principles are the same as in your house, just with a few differences: 1st rule is, any thing that hasn t been through your stomach, doesn t go through the loo on the yacht or in tavernas. There are bags provided for loo paper and anything else. The small pipes on the boat and in the tavernas are not designed for mass loo paper like our loos at home. The toilet requires you to pump the water in and out. SWITCH IT TO WATER OUT PUMP IT X 10 PUMP IT TILL DRY SWITCH IT TO WATER IN The toilet waste goes into a holding tank. This is to keep the beautiful bays clean. When in a harbour or a bay you need to have the sea cock (valve) turned off, you can then open it up the next day when you are at sea. You will be showed the location of these during your boat briefing. Last rule, no paper down the loos!

3 Shower The showers on Fleurie are great, they are powerful and have a good hot and cold system, the same as you would find in most houses. Just turn the crome handle to the left for hot and right for cold. Please remember, the water is not unlimited on a yacht, so try to use it conservatively. E.g. stopping the flow while you soap up, or brush your teeth. You will be able to top up your tanks in some places and you have a spare 20ltr container if you do run out. When you are finished in the shower, you will need to hold down the black button to drain the water. Hold it down until all the water has gone, this will pump it out the side of the boat so make sure no one is swimming next door.

4 Gas and the Oven When you want to make a cup of tea you will need to turn the gas on in two places. 1st place - gas locker 2nd place - cut off switch in plate cupboard (Vertical=on, horizontal =off) Lighting the hob Press, twist and hold for 5 seconds, whilst lighting around the ring. Lighting the oven Same but at the back of the oven Electrics Battery Isolators These cut the power to your batteries. On Fleurie you have one Engine Starter Battery, two Domestic Batteries, and one for the bow thruster. The only one you need to change daily is the engine starter battery isolator in the port aft cabin. When you get into harbour and are happy with your anchor you can turn this one horizontal (OFF) so the lights, fridges etc. don t flatten your engine starter battery. The only other one you may need to touch is the bow thruster isolator. If you hold down the bow thruster too long it will overheat and trip the red isolator on the starboard side of the forward berth. The anchor windlass only has a fuse, it has no isolator so if you have trouble with this, please contact the base manager.

5 Shore Power You have a shore power cable in the aft locker. When in a marina like Gouvia, you can plug this into the shore power box. This means you can use your water heater, battery charger, microwave and the 220v sockets (black European style plug) which are located all around the boat by the light switches. When you are at sea you can use the Inverter to charge phones, laptops and tablets etc. Please note the inverter is not large enough to power high watt devices like hair straighteners. VHF This is located above the chart table. They operate by pressing the button on the side of the hand held microphone, when you want to talk, and then letting go when you are not speaking. These are NOT A TOY. Please save conversations about what is for lunch for when you are in harbour. Have in mind everyone can hear what is said. Channel 16 is the emergency channel which everyone will monitor, including ferries and the coast guard. You should only use this to call up people in the case of emergency or to tell them to switch to another channel i.e. 71 where you can then talk. 16 is the channel you should use to send out a Mayday message (which is displayed above the chart table. This should only to be done in real emergencies i.e. fire, sinking. The red distress button also does the same thing. It will send your position and boat information to the coast guard. These are the LAST options. Each boat has a boat phone with No Stress staff numbers. We have access to high speed RIBs and can normally diagnose most problems over the phone. Channel 69 is the harbour authorities channel for most of the North Ionian so if you require assistance in a large marina like Gouvia you can call them. They do not expect you to call in like marinas in the UK.Channel 27 will give a weather forecast at 0900, 1300 and 1900hrs. Just have a pen and pad ready as they speak even faster than the UK forcasters!

6 The Switch Board The switches are all fairly self-explanatory and you will be briefed further. The main thing to remember is not to leave on anything you are not using as the batteries will not last forever. The left hand side is the 12V switches, which will run off the batteries. The right side is the 220V system which will only work when the shore power is connected. The 220V is for the battery charger, water heater (works of engine as well), microwave and sockets. Inverter The inverter will charge phones, tablets and lap tops. It will not work for large appliances like hair driers. It can be used whenever, however do not leave on overnight or when you are away from the boat for a long period. Please check the battery monitor panel to make sure the Volts do not drop below 12V. If this happens please turn off what you don t need on and run the engine to start the battery. The stereo system is turned on first using the Stereo symbol on the panel. You can then plug in your ipods, ipads, Mp3 players etc using the aux cable or the USB connection. You can also FADE inside and outside to where ever you would like. Fridge There are two fridges onboard. Both are 12V so they work from the batteries. They can be used when the engine is on or off, but not for too long as it will drain the battery. Again please keep an eye on the Volt Panel. Normally the best way to use the fridge is keep them on all day then turn them off at night, providing you use the engine for around 1 hour in the morning and afternoon you should have plenty of power.

7 Above Decks Winches Always wind the rope clockwise around the drum. Always pull with your little finger towards the winch and keep at least a hand or two s width away from the winch. What ever happens keep your fingers and your hair or any loose clothing away from the winch as they take no prisoners. When you can t pull the rope by hand any more you can use the self tailing function. Firstly, put it through the metal bit called the feeder. Secondly, wind it around the black section with the grove in and give it a good pull. This locks the rope into place so you can use the winch handle to wind it in more. All the winches are two speed. This means you wind clockwise and it goes fast but it is hard work or you wind anti clockwise and it is slower but easier Anchor Windlass First you need the engine on to power it, if it doesn t work check two things: 1- the anchor symbol on the switch board should be turned on, 2 - the cable for the control is properly pushed into the socket. All you need to do is press the buttons (up or down), when needed. There is a chain counter on the control which will let you know how much to let out. The normal ratio is 4 x the depth. Fleurie has 65m onboard. This is a powerful piece of machinery, so please keep toes, fingers and hair away from the moving parts. When you pull it up, make sure you look over the front every so often, to make sure you don t pull the anchor too fast into the front of the boat. When it is out the water slow down so you can bring it up under control.

8 The Engine Each of our boats have a slightly different starting mechanism so you will be briefed fully on starting and stopping your yacht. Rev Counter Fuel Gauge Engine Start/Stop Bathing Platform Control Throttle The morse control or the throttle as it s more commonly known, is the black stick next to the wheel. It is a simple idea, if you push the stick forward you will be in forward gear, the opposite for reverse. Neutral is straight up. If you are having trouble starting your engine and it needs some revs or you want to run the engine to charge the batteries in harbour, then you will need to engage the clutch. You do this by pushing in the black button on the side, keeping it pressed in while you push the black stick forward. Around 1500 RPM will give the best charge for the batteries. However it is best for the engine and your neighbours if you can run the engine in gear while out for the day.

9 Sails Genoa Fleurie has a roller furling genoa. This makes it easy to bring the sail in and out. It also means you can reef it quickly in strong winds. The amount of sail out is governed by how much furling line you let out. This is the thin line on the port side. When you want to bring the sail in you pull this line, you can also put it on the port genoa winch to make it easier. If possible you should keep a bit of tension on the working genoa sheet, this rolls the genoa neatly, making it easier to pull out next time. In cast you can not furl the genoa you should use the blue and white halyard on the far right jammer to drop the sail onto the deck. You should call base to ask for assistance. Main The main sail is an inmast furling main. Which means you pull the sail in and out like the genoa. This means you can have as much or little sail out as you need for the wind conditions. Try to keep even amounts of main and genoa out to balance the yacht. To unfurl the mainsail you should release both jammers that say MAIN IN and pull OUTHALL. You should keep a little tension on the MAIN IN lines as this will control how much sail you want out. To stop the main coming out any more the MAIN IN lines should be pulled tight. To furl away or reef the main sail you will need to release the outhall (keeping a little tension like the genoa to keep a smooth furl inside the mast). You will then need to pull one of the main in lines and let out the other one, depending on which way you have started furling. As Fleurie has no traveller to adjust the boom athwartship, you will need to use the 2 main sheets to adjust the boom position and sail shape. Not forgetting the kicker which will control the flatness of the sail with the outhall. For more information make Sam a coffee and ask for the sail trim demo! `

10 Emergency Equipment Other Safety Equipment In the event of a man overboard, there are two horse shoe life buoys with lights. They can be thrown at the person in the water to help them float and be seen. There is also a floating throw line, all you do is hold onto the bottom line and throw the bag at the person. Please ensure that more than one person on board is briefed on what should be done in the event of a MOB. Flares In the big yellow tub in the STB cockpit locker. These should only be used in emergencies, NOT TOYS. Please familiarise yourself with the contents of the box before leaving. There are parachute flares to attract attention from afar, smoke and handheld flares to pinpoint rescuers to your postion. EPRIB Located above the chart table. Use only if in a Mayday situation, to activate pull of red case on back and follow instructions. Small Tool Kit You won t be able to build your own boat but you have a few important bits that might save the day. Don t forget you are on holiday and we have a fast RIB to come and help! These are in the port cockpit locker Bolt cutters and a hack saw are also in the port cockpit locker to cut away the rigging in the event of a mast failure. Table conversion To turn the saloon table into a bed; just swap the big legs for the small legs and pull the two sides apart, inserting the central section. You will find the foam inserts in the forepeak. Life Jackets Our yachts all have enough life jackets for everyone on board, as per Greek Law. However it is the Skippers decision when to wear them. Please let us know if you have small children who will require smaller jackets. They are located under the forward seats in the saloon. Harnesses Harnesses are also located under the saloon seats, nearest the mast. Again let us know if you have small children, as the harness will rest your mind that the little one will be strapped on! Please wear these under your life jacket and clip on to a strong point. NOT stations, guard wires or the Bimini frame.

11 Fire Extinguishers All fire extinguishers are tested annually. You will find one 600g in each cabin, as well as one 3kg and a 6kg under the chart table. One 6kg is in the starboard cockpit locker. They are all dry powder so you can use on any type of fire. There is also an automatic extinguisher in the engine room. There is also a fire blanket in the galley. Life Raft Fleurie s life raft is in the starboard side cockpit locker. If it is required in the very worse case of sinking, fire or major emergency. Before abandoning ship - contact base and coastguard if possible, send Mayday call or DSC emergency button. 1st - tie the painter line onto something solid i.e. cleat, 2nd - push it into the sea downwind of the yacht, 3rd - pull sharply on the line which will trigger the CO2 canister inside to inflate the raft. 4th - You should then make your way into the raft as safely as possible (clipped onto the line with your harness if possible). 5th- You should take the EPIRB, flares and hand held radio with you to attract attention. Please remember this is always the last option, your yacht is more visible to rescuers and A LOT more comfortable than a life raft. You should then use the flares and any communication to attract attention.

12 First Aid Kit You will find this in the STB side cupboard above the saloon seating area. The contents are suited to the Greek Charter Regulations as well of a few of our own additions. Please do not use the contents unless needed and do not use anything you do not know how to use. Please call us or the emergency service s if you do have any major problems onboard. If you do use anything during the charter, please can you let us know what you have used so we can replace it. Emergency Steering System There is an emergency tiller in the starboard locker. This can be slotted into the hole under the floor aft of each steering wheel. It is a good idea to tie a line from this to each winch, making it easier to control. Wooden Bungs They are located in the cupboard above the saloon seating area. These are to be used if any of the through hull fittings fail. Lead Line To be used if the depth sounder stops working. Please use at slow speeds, in areas that are not over 10m in depth. It is also advised that you should have someone on the bow visually checking for rocks and obstructions in shallow areas. Fog Horn To be used in fog or poor visibility. 1 long blast, 2 short means you are sailing vessel. Keep a good look out and get in contact with base if unsure.

13 Before Charter Checklist Before you come out on your sailing trip with us, please have a quick look through the following: Do you have an up to date weather forecast? Channel 27 gives the Northern Ionian forecast at 9:00,13:00 and 19:00. Or you can use or Or you can ask one of our staff. Do you know where you are going this week? If not ask our team for ideas as well as looking in our North Ionian Guide book. Have you familiarised yourself with the safety systems on board? Do you have the signed boat papers? Do you and your crew have all the gear and provisions you are going to need? You will find supermarkets around but always make sure you have something just incase! Do you have any little ones on board? If so they will need a smaller life jacket and harness. Please let one of the team know. ATM s are not that common around the islands so make sure you have got enough cash for the week. Water, it gets hot out here and it is not recommended to drink water from the tap, so make sure you have stocked up on the bottled stuff! 14 End of Charter Checklist Before heading back to base please make sure you have: Emptied your holding tanks and have flushed through each system a few times. Ensure the dishes are washed and put away. Please put any used linen and tea towels into pillow cases and leave them in the saloon. Empty fridge and cupboards and leave anything unwanted on the saloon table Please give the deck a quick wash down. Please do not refuel the yacht as it is already included in your holiday price. Please let one of our staff know if anything is broken or missing so we can replace it for the next charter.
