2 EDITORIAL This year we are celebrating the 40th edition of the Tour de France à la Voile! There are few sporting events that can boast of such longevity The success of this race is largely built on its ability to re-invent itself. It is a travelling event that today is more popular than ever among the crews and public. Adopted three years ago, the spirited and spectacular Tour de France à la Voile multihull epitomizes this dynamic. And this year a record setting 30+ Diam 24 will set sail for three weeks of competition with the victory decided in Nice! Sailing legends Bernard Stamm, Billy Besson, Paul Meilhat, Damien Seguin or Kito de Pavant will be on hand to celebrate this exceptional anniversary! We are pleased to bring the biggest show on water to an ever increasing viewing public. To respond to this keen interest, we have rethought the Race Village. This year visitors will be literally in the heart of the regatta. On the water, never has the Diam 24 fleet been as large and it promises to deliver intense and very visual battles. For this 40 th edition, the festivities both on water and on land will be more spectacular and certainly unforgettable for the winners who will have faced challengers of the highest order! Media interest has grown for the Tour de France à la Voile, which contributes to raising the profile of the event. More than 150 members of the media covered the race last year and we reached 157 hours of TV coverage. The Tour de France à la Voile hasn t aged a day, quite the opposite. With this turn toward multihulls, the event is definitely in step with the times and still has a long life of regattas in its future. The helmsman is also responsible for the main sail trolley settings. 6 The mainsail trimmer also looks after the tactics. 7 The front sail trimmer is responsible for the genoa and gennaker. 8 Presentation Each summer, the Tour de France à la Voile brings together the A-list of French and international sailors for a three-week long competition along the coast of France in an event alternating between Coastal Racings and a day of Stadium Racings. One must be an all-round sailor to win this prominent event. The crews understand it all too well and often come from varied sailing backgrounds: offshore racing, Olympic sailing or match racing. It is a rare to watch a fleet this large reuniting sailing legends and the stars of tomorrow. Competition There is absolutely no margin for error! Black-flag starts are used for each race during the day of Stadium Racing. If a boat passes the start line too early, it will be disqualified for that race. Double points are awarded at the final Act in Nice, with a Super Finale on July 29. Eight teams instead of six last year for the Stadium Racings finals and Nice Super Finale for a more open and intense format for the Teams. Race Village A spectator Zone in the heart of the Race Village reserved for following the races live. A live update every 30 minutes. The taping, in front of the public and in the heart of the Race Village of a daily live show of the Tour de France à la Voile from 15h30 to 16h30. Not to be missed: The Super Final of the Tour de France à la Voile, followed by the prize giving Ceremony on the stage in the Race Village. The Mediterranean is known for its pitfalls, with changing winds due to the different temperatures. It worked out nicely for us last year, but in these conditions it can become more random. Of course, we are very enthusiastic about the idea of returning to the Gulf of Morbihan. They are atypical waters, but they are our home waters! We know the local phenomenon and even if we don t win, we will have added confidence. There will be opportunities to make the most of! Act 3 at Jullouville is brand new. We have never sailed there. 6 A TYPICAL ACT OF THE TOUR DE FRANCE À LA VOILE A C The Coastal Race A long-distance route, contested close to the coastline, mixing speed and strategy for the sailors. Late morning start in front of the host city, as close to land and the spectators as possible. WIND DIRECTION Choice of going around buoy A or B BUOY B BUOY X2 or X3 laps before finish BUOY D BUOY Choice of going around buoy C or D Fleet start: all the Teams entered start at the same time. Distance: 40 nautical miles on average (or 74 km). Distances are adapted according to meteorological conditions. Duration of race: approximately three hours depending on the weather. Finish: every afternoon, between 15h30 and 16h30, in front of the city. The first to cross the finish line wins the Coastal Race and scores 50 points. The Stadium Race FINISH START Layout of Racing Stadium A short regatta just metres from the shore, to test the Teams sailing skills. QUALIFYING PHASES The boats are divided into two qualifying groups by lottery drawing (named A and B). The race-route is located in front of the Race Village and visible by the spectators from the shore. Start: Teams race in their group. Meanwhile, the boats of the other group wait for their signal. The starts take place approximately every 10 minutes. Number of races: each group will contest six qualifying races. Race duration: approximately 15 minutes. THE FINALE The first four Teams in Group A and the first four in Group B are selected for the Final of the day at the end of the qualification phase. Start: the 8 qualified teams start as a fleet on the same line. Number of races: one race at the start of which the counters are rest to zero. It is always held between 15h30 and 16h30. Finish: the first boat to cross the finish line wins the Finale and thus the Stadium Racing day. It will score 50 points. Finish: the first boat to cross the finish line wins its group race. 8 9

7 ION T A C I F I S S A ILE L O C V A L THE À E C N E FRA D R U O T E H T OF Quentin DELAPIERRE Team Lorina Limonade Golfe du Morbihan, winner of the 2016 Tour de France à la Voile This year, the number of Teams in the Stadium Racing Finale and Nice Super Finale has increased from six to eight. This will make the race more open, which is good news for the outsiders. At the front, we will have to fight hard to maintain position because there will be more risk of finishing in the bottom half of the table. The field will be denser for this 40th edition with the structured Teams, the return of Olympians and very few shrinking violet crews. It is great for the Diam 24 and the Tour de France à la Voile and a fine challenge to take on for the crews entered. The winning Team of the Coastal Race or of Stadium Racing day will score: 50 points 1st 48 points 3rd 49 points 2nd And so forth, in descending order just until the final competitor BY GENERAL CLASSIFICATIONCLASSEMENT GÉNÉRAL The total of all the points awarded at the end of each day of competition. The winner of the Tour de France à la Voile will be the Team having scored the most points. U-26 CLASSIFICATION BY CLASSEMENT GÉNÉRAL Only the Teams whose entire crew is under the age of 26 are eligible for this classification. They will be determined from the General Classification, by extracting points. AMATEUR CLASSIFICATION CLASSEMENT GÉNÉRAL Only the Teams whose entire crew consist of amateurs and have at least one member under the age of 26 are eligible for this classification. They will be determined from the General Classification, by extracting points. 10 This award is for bringing attention to a Team that battled particularly well, but didn t necessarily finish on the podium. It is the chance to also reward the commitment, self-discipline and Michel DESJOYEAUX determination not to give up until the finish line. I am very honoured to have been chosen as the ambassador of the Finagaz Combativeness Prize for the second consecutive year. The Tour de France à la Voile is an event in motion that assumes its 90-degree turn. The recent changes to Ambassador of the Finagaz Prize for Combativeness the event, especially to the multihulls, are exciting. Finagaz Award for Combativeness, a renewed success Launched last year, the Finagaz Award for Combativeness enjoyed great success among the crews and public. Michel Desjoyeaux will return as the ambassador of a prize that rewards a remarkable sporting performance and brings attention to the common values of the Finagaz brand and the Tour de France à la Voile: team spirit, performance and technical expertise. Assisted by a new jury at each act, Michel Desjoyeaux will closely watch the Stadium Racing regattas and the Coastal Races to designate the most combative crew at the end of each act. 11

8 THE RACE VILLAGE ACTIVITIES The Tour de France à la Voile, a big party on shore! The Tour de France à la Voile is a major summer happening, and its partners animate over three weeks the most iconic points on the French coastline Meet the skippers: autograph sessions and interviews on the first day of each Act at 17h on the big stag to meet the champions. Pass K DO: the latest generation touch screen tablet to win at the Pass K Do lottery drawing every evening. 5 1 From morning until night, the Race Village is a buzz with activities, games, sporting challenges and concerts as well as a number of goodies provided by the partners. During a visit to the Race Village, the spectator enters the centre of the race to experience everything it has to offer: a live daily programme, race updates every 30 minutes, activities around sailing and spectator zone The FDJ Foundation also has a Diam 24 on display. Tastings of dishes concocted by French chefs based on the banana grown in Guadeloupe and Martinique will also be on offer during the three weeks of the Tour de France à la Voile. The Super Sand teams and long-time partner of the event, the Journal de Mickey will have numerous surprises in store for the kids. Before the arrival of the Tour in each stage city, the publicity caravan led by our partners Yanmar, Finagaz, Haribo and Pink Lady will meet the public along the 1,000km route between Dunkirk and Nice. On the beach, water initiations and free of charge activities will be organised every afternoon, thanks to the support of the FFVoile and Bic Sport. 9 THE RACE VILLAGE ACTIVITIES In 2017, live the Tour de France à la Voile experience! THE SPECTATOR ZONE AND ITS RACE UPDATE A zone will be reserved for spectators in the heart of the Race Village. Every 30 minutes, a Race Update will be given from this area with a live link-up between the animator and an on-board commentator, to receive the latest news from the regattas and better understand the race tactics. The important information will be shown on the giant screen: classifications, weather conditions, speed The race The prize giving Ceremony on the big stage in the Race Village on the final day of each Act at 17h to applaud the day s winners. The Race Update, every 30 minutes, from the spectators Zone will help the public understand everything about the races. Taking a page from motor racing, a paddock will be close to the public to admire the behind the scenes aspect of the race (assembly and disassembly, putting the boats in the water, preparation of the boats, etc.). What s new Jean-Baptiste DURIER Tour de France à la Voile Director A Diam 24 entirely built in the colours of the FDJ Foundation on display in the heart of the Race Village, with educational presentations and a sailing grinder animation. This year, the sporting aspect will, more than ever before, be present in the heart of the Race Village. We want the spectators to understand the Tour de France à la Voile and its regattas. They will dive into the competition with a Race Update on the giant screen every 30 minutes, a live liaison with an on-board commentator, the live public taping of the "La Quotidienne" (daily show), the TV programme of the Tour that will have celebrity guests and meetings with the sailors The acro-mast: inspired from IMOCA, the idea is to climb above 16 metres thanks to the Olivette tight rope descender system.
