1 FROM ORC TO RI This article explains the procedure for changing an ORC international certificate to an RI certificate (Rating International). RI and ORC international measurements are quite similar in terms of sail and rig measurement, designated with the same initials. ORC Club certificates should be checked to see whether sails and rig have been measured or not by a measurer in order to approve these measurements in the RI certificate. Following we are going to look at the parameters that are measured in ORC and how to transfer to RI. 1) Hull, overhangs and weight IRC LOA BMAX DM RI LOA (if the boat is standard we shall use the LOA for that series) BMAX (if the boat is standard we shall use the standard BMAX) DM (if DM is calculated via freeboards, if not, we shall use the standard) / BH can be calculated from the offset / H can be calculated from the offset / Y can be calculated from the offset / SX can be calculated from the offset FFM FAM DSM FFM (use the SFF) only for TRIM control in RI FAM only for TRIM control in RI DSM for freeboards If a yacht has no freeboard measurement (ORC club) the weight is standardized Main 2) Sails HB MGL and MSW HB not used

ORC international certificates publish all measurements for Genoas and Spinnakers carried on board or only publish the maximum measurements found. These measurements can also be obtained from the offset of the yacht if available. See measurement guide RI, if not apply 6 points by default to the iron bulbs and 8 points to the lead bulbs. Runners and type of propeller and number of blades, mast type and hull is obtained in both certificates. Other details for rig, appendix, equipment and habitability is declared by the owner, if not included then NO should be applied by default. We learn that if a owner fills in an application and attaches his International ORC certificate, he can obtain a verified RI certificate. The ORC club can offer a non verified RI certificate.

3 FROM IRC TO RI This article explains the procedure for changing an IRC certificate to an RI certificate. RI and IRC measurements are quite similar, as we evaluate the same parameters and we can use most of the measurements from the IRC certificate, although we should bear in mind the major difference being that IRC accepts self measurement from the and RI does not. Therefore measurements taken by a owner (sail and rig measurements) will not be accepted. In order that these measurements are accepted they should proceed from a verified and endorsed IRC certificate. Following we are going to look at the parameters that are measured in IRC and how to transfer to RI. 1) Hull, launch and movement IRC LOA Maximum beam RI LOA (if the boat is standard we shall use the LOA for that series) BMAX (if the boat is standard we shall use the standard BMAX) Maximum draft DM (if the boat is standard we shall use the standard DM) BO, X H Y SO BH=BO X H Y not measured / SX (only for yachts with inverted transom (classic boats) / FFM (0.15 stem) only for TRIM control / FAM only for TRIM control, not contemplated in the calculation. Weight DSM =weight+security weight+anchor and chain If a yacht is not weighed, it is standardized. The freeboards in RI are not contemplated in the calculation, they are only used for TRIM and DSM control purposes in the regatta. They are therefore essential in order to do a certificate. 2) Sails

If only symmetric is declared, then symmetric measurements are applied. If both types of spinnaker are requested, then the same details should be filled in, both for symmetric and asymmetric spinnaker. Bear in mind that for RI maximum measurements for all symmetric and asymmetric should be declared, and not the sail greater surface as done in IRC. It is important to give the stamp measurements for all spinnakers indicating those which are symmetric and asymmetric. As all sails should be marked and measured considering it is an endorsed or verified certificate. If the yachts carries a bulb, this should be measured as well as, the keel and the bulb (BL,BG,QC,QG and QL).
