Boat Operation Engine Inspection Remember your WOBBS every morning. Water (Coolant), Oil, Bilge (Inspect and pump out), Belts and Sea Strainer. Check the level of COOLANT in the expansion tank. Engine coolant is a mixture of 50% antifreeze and water. Check the level of OIL in the engine with the dipstick located just inside the side engine access door opposite the chart table adjacent to the shiny label on the manifold on top of the engine and the coolant level tank can be accessed inside the same door. A pair of etch marks on the dipstick indicates the proper oil level. DO NOT OVERFILL. Make sure the dipstick is firmly replaced in the dipstick tube. Check the Oil with a paper towel or a rag, not a dish towel. Check the general condition of the BELTS, HOSES and FUEL LINES. Ensure the valve of the RAW WATER THRU-HULL is in the open position. The orange colored thru-hull valve is located under the hatch in the galley floor. Observe the glass of the RAW WATER STRAINER for debris, located to the lower left of the front of the engine. Remove the ladder, then pull the front engine hatch forward and open. (Look down and to the left, and when closing the hatch, be sure the hatch engages fully closed on the left side next to the fridge door.) If necessary, close the orange colored seacock valve, open the strainer cover, clean the strainer, and reassemble. Be careful to seat the O-Ring properly or you will have a leak. RE-OPEN THE ORANGE COLORED THRU HULL SEACOCK VALVE, then replace/close the floor hatch. Engine U Got A B Kiddin has a 50 HP Perkins Diesel engine, which drives a three-bladed propeller through a reversible transmission. The combined shift lever and throttle control is along with the audible alarms and Oil & Temperature gauges at the helm. The engine stop is located below the gauges and wheel at the helm. Pull the stop lever up and out to stop the engine and be sure to push the lever down fully in order to make sure the engine will start the next time you go to start the engine. The engine will propel the vessel to 6 knots in calm water at 2200 RPM. The most efficient long range cruising is at 5.5 knots to knots. Using increased throttle settings & RPM s is not recommended as it greatly increases fuel and oil consumption and wear on the engine with very little increase in speed. For this reason, we ask that you limit the use of higher power settings to real emergency situations. This boat has a definite prop walk to starboard in reverse with not much noticeable effect in forward. When in reverse, be careful to keep a firm grip on the wheel and use only low RPM s. 4

Note: When you desire to turn this vessel around in a very tight radius, it is recommended that you choose to turn left. Start the turn, turn the wheel all the way to port/left and leave it there, then, when space requires it, put the shift lever into reverse and give it little power. The power of the prop walk will continue to pull the stern to the right and stop the forward momentum. When required, put the shift lever back into forward to continue the turn and the prop wash against the left turned rudder will continue to turn the boat in the very tight radius. Straighten wheel as desired. Starting Set the battery switch to # 1 (See battery section). The switch is located on the electrical panel on the left marked Battery Switch. Place the shift lever in the neutral position. Note the button located below the lever. This button engages the shift lever when in the pushed in position and disengages the shift lever when in the pulled out position. Make sure the button below the lever is pulled all the way out, disengaged position. This will allow the lever to be moved into the throttle only position. Increase the throttle position a little. Turn the key to the on position and the oil and temperature alarms will sound. Turn the key farther to engage the starter and hold for five seconds. When the engine starts, lower the RPM s to about 1000 RPM. This alternator requires the engine be set above 1000 RPM when starting to activate the tachometer. Take a look along the vessel s port side to check if water is exiting with the exhaust. Allow the engine to warm up for about 10 minutes before putting under load. Do not hold the start button for more than 15 seconds at a time. If the engine doesn t start the first time, check to see if the stop lever was pushed all the way down after the last time the engine was stopped. (Remember, the lever is way down below the steering wheel). Wait for about 15 seconds before trying again. Raise the throttle a little more and try starting again. NEVER TURN OFF THE KEY WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING! THE KEY SHOULD ALWAYS BE IN THE ON POSITION. You can do serious damage to the alternator if the key is tuned off. After the engine starts, push the button in to the engaged position in order to shift gears. RAISE THE SHIFT LEVER FOR FORWARD AND PUSH DOWN FOR REVERSE. PUSH THE LEVER A LITTLE FARTHER IN EITHER FORWARD OR REVERSE TO INCREASE THE SPEED. NORMAL CRUISING SPEED IS 2000 TO 2200 RPM. 5

Shutdown Place the transmission into neutral and allow the engine to cool down for several minutes. Usually this is about the amount of time it takes to secure the lines and plug in the shore power. Pull the engine stop button up until the engine stops, it s located below the gauges below the steering wheel. This cuts off the fuel supply to the engine. Alarms will sound until the key switch is turned off. Switch off the key after the engine has completely stopped. Push the engine stop back in after the engine stops. Important Note: If the engine will not start when getting underway, make sure that you have pushed the engine stop back in, to engage the fuel stop to the running position. Getting Underway To disconnect the shore power cord, FIRST TURN OFF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER on the ELECTRICAL PANEL, located in back of the engine cover in back of the stairs leading to the cockpit. Disconnect the shore power cord from the inlet, located on the outboard starboard side of the cockpit. Last, disconnect the shore power cord at the panel on the dock. To reconnect shore power, plug in cord, turn on the dock shore power breaker, then turn on the ship s AC breaker. Watch for reverse polarity. Close the PORTLIGHTS, WINDOWS, AND FORWARD HATCHES. Once outside the marina, idle the engine while the crew brings in the fenders and lines. Assign one crew member to be in charge of securing ports and assign one to be in charge of the dinghy if towing. Shorten the dinghy tow line on all close-quartering maneuvers. Docking Have your crew make ready the dock lines and fenders and give clear instructions on how you will be docking. Have bow, stern, and spring lines ready. Often times it is best to lead them to the mid section of the boat (the fattest part) where your crew member can easily step off and secure either the bow or stern line to the dock cleats. As you are coming into the dock, have your best communicator mid ships to call out the distances from the dock. It is often hard to judge how close the dock is. Calling out distances (i.e: 20 feet, 10 feet, 4 feet, etc.) will only add to the successful docking. If you find that your approach is too far off the dock, BACK OFF, and re-enter the approach to the dock again. THERE WIL BE NO HEROIC JUMPING OF CREW MEMBERS ONTO THE DOCK. Disaster will hit if you lose someone overboard into the water. Fueling Up You will need to fuel up before returning to your slip at the end of your charter. The fuel tank holds 85 gallons of diesel fuel. Before pumping, have oil/fuel absorbs handy to soak up spilled fuel. You should have a rough idea of how many gallons you will need by observing the engine hour meter indicating how many hours you have run during your voyage. This vessel s engine uses about 1 gallon per hour times the number of hours run. Also periodically have someone watch the fuel gauge located on the tank below & under the hatch on the starboard settee. 6

The fuel fill deck cap is located on the starboard mid side deck. CHECK THAT YOU HAVE THE CORRECT DECK OPENING MARKED DIESEL ON THE CAP. Use Only DIESEL! Do not add water or pump-out the waste at the same time you are fueling. Your deck fitting key is located with the key ring hooks mounted opposite the chart table. Place the DIESEL nozzle into the deck tank opening, pump slowly and evenly, and note the sound of the fuel flow. Pumping too fast may not allow enough time for air to escape from the fuel tank, which may result in spouting from the tank deck opening, and onto your face. As the tank fills, the sound will rise in pitch or gurgle. Pay attention to the TANK OVERFLOW VENT located above the guard outboard of the starboard sheet winch. Place a piece of fuel absorb on the guard beneath the fuel vent to catch spilled fuel from the vent. The sound may indicate that the tank is nearly full. Top off the tank carefully, and be prepared to catch spilled fuel. Spillage may result is a nasty fine from law enforcement. Replace fuel cap. Caution: ---- Clean up splatter and spillage immediately for environmental and health reasons. Wash hands with soap and water thoroughly. BOAT SYSTEMS Electrical Systems The electrical system is divided into two distribution systems: 110 Volt AC and 12 Volt DC. The systems are controlled from the AC ELECTRICAL PANEL and the DC AUXILIARY PANEL both located behind the stairs leading to the cockpit and behind the microwave oven on the wall Panel. When not connected to shore power, batteries are providing all power. Therefore, monitor the use of onboard electricity carefully with the DC battery voltmeters located to the right of the battery switch. Be sure to turn off all DC electrical devices that are not needed. Most breakers are labeled by colored dots. Green signifies usually on. Red is usually off. Blue dots are water pressure or water related, like pumps. No dots are breakers signifying irregular use with discretion. 120 Volt AC System SHORE POWER supports the water heater and AC receptacles on board, as well as the battery charger. To connect to shore power plug the POWER CORD into the boat and then into the dock receptacle on the dock shore power panel. Check the power rating/plug size of the nearest dock receptacle (that is 30 amp, 20 amp, or 15 amp). If necessary, add a CORD ADAPTOR located in the locker behind the chart table. Turn the dock power on. Cords coming off the bow can be wrapped loosely around the bow line. 7

At the ELECTRICAL PANEL, flip the AC Circuit Breaker on. Then turn on the appropriate breakers for battery charger, water heater, and AC outlets. If you are not getting power to the outlets, check to see that one of the GFI s have tripped and reset it if needed. 12-Volt DC System House & Engine Battery Switch Two battery banks support 12 - Volt DC power: 1) Engine Bank. 2) House Bank. The Battery Switch is located on the left side of the DC Panel. Normally, leave the battery switch in the 2) House Bank position. Use the house bank for all uses and save the 1) Engine Bank for emergency starting only. There should be enough battery in the house bank for two days of use during normal usage. In an emergency, switch to the engine bank will start the engine to charge up both house and engine banks. After the engine has started, place the battery bank switch in the BOTH POSITION AND CHARGE UNTIL BOTH BANKS ARE FULY CHARGED. Use the DC system battery test analog meter indicators to test each battery bank to ensure that the batteries are fully charged. The 12 Volt panel shows all the systems supported by the batteries. Primarily you will be turning on the breakers for your lights, water pressure, electronics, etc. Interior lights are also powered from a circuit breaker on this panel but all lights have an individual on/off switch on each light. Some such as those in the galley and in both heads have two positions, turning the switch to the left turns on half of the light, then turning the switch to the right turns on all of the lights is the brightest for that light. The forward Bilge Pump is directly wired and powered by the engine battery bank, activated automatically through the bilge pump float switch. The breaker and switch for propane should always be turned off after each use. The HOUSE BATTERY BANK provides power for all DC systems. When disconnected from shore power, all 12 volt devices drain the house battery bank. Battery systems will lose their charge while ANCHORED and MOORED. Avoid this by using power sparingly while at anchor. Turn the refrigerator off at night. Use only one or two lights at a time. Turn off systems not in use such as Instruments, Radar, VHF Radio, Stereo, etc. If you stay anchored or moored for more than a day, run the engine just above idle for at least one hour to charge the batteries, and be sure to check the voltage meters for charge rates. Watch the voltage. Batteries are charged by the engine ALTERNATOR while underway. The engine/house batteries are charged by the BATTERY CHARGER when connected to shore power. There are two 12 volt auxiliary plugs one located at the front of the binnacle in the cockpit, the other one is located in the rear stateroom on the left side of the hanging locker. Both of these operate off 12 volt battery 8

power alone and can be used to power a small inverter for charging shaver or cell phone batteries. The AC electrical outlets will not work under the DC battery system. Note: Do not change the position of the battery switch while the engine is running or the alternator diodes will be damaged. Only change positions with the engine off. Voltage (Wet Cell Battery) Battery State volts 100% volts 75% volts 50% volts 25% volts 0% SANITATION SYSTEM Marine Toilet It is important that every member of the crew be informed on the proper use of the Toilets. The valves, openings, and pumps are small and may clog easily. If the toilet clogs, it is YOUR RESONSIBILITY! Always pump the head for children, so you can make sure nothing foreign is being flushed. Caution Never put paper towels, tampons, Kleenex, sanitary napkins, household toilet paper, or food into the marine toilet. Use only the special dissolving marine toilet tissue provided by AYC. To use the electric toilets in the heads, located in the forward stateroom and aft stateroom, it s simple, push the center of the black button located on the side of the vanity. Hold button to flush sufficiently in order to move effluent in the hoses; heavy effluent may clog hoses. There,.. see how simple it was,. now you re done. Clean the toilet as necessary. The forward head thru-hulls are located under the vanity and below fwd starboard settee, the aft head thru-hulls are located below the vanity if you need to shut off the water to the toilets. Holding Tanks The forward sanitation HOLDING TANK holds approximately 10 gallons. The aft tank holds approximately 10 gallons. Be aware of the rate of waste production. (about 1 gallon per flush) With an overfilled tank, it is possible to break a hose, clog a vent, or burst the tank. The result will be indescribable catastrophe and an EXPENSIVE FIX to you. Empty the tank every other day to avoid this problem. The forward holding tank is located under the fwd starboard settee, the aft tank is located under the master berth at the foot of the master berth. These tanks are clear type plastic & you can see the level so a visual check with a flashlight or the watermelon test by thumping it. The holding tank is emptied in one of two ways: #1 At the Marine Pump out Station, Remove the WASTE CAP located to starboard fore and aft. Insert the pump-out nozzle into the waste opening. Double-check that the deck fitting is marked WASTE. Turn 9

on pump and open valve located on handle. When pumping is finished, close lever on handle and turn off the pump. Remove from deck fitting. If there is a fresh water hose on the dock, rinse the tank by adding 2 minutes of water into tank. Then Re-pump it out to leave the tank rinsed for the next charter. This also eliminates head odors. #2 The toilets and tank s contents can be discharged overboard in Canadian waters. Discharge Valves The discharge valves direct the waste effluent into the sanitation-holding tank, or flushes the effluent directly overboard. The forward discharge VALVE is located under the fwd starboard settee and the aft discharge VALVE is located under the aft vanity. Note The discharge valves are usually left in the holding tank position in respect to Coast Guard regulations. Please leave it as is unless there is an emergency or in Canadian waters. Be familiar with the applicable laws concerning dumping sewage directly overboard. WATER SYSTEMS Fresh Water Tank The FRESH WATER tank holds 100 gallons. Be mindful of the amount of water you use while washing dishes and taking showers. Waste water from the sinks drains overboard through thru-hulls located under the galley sole and under the vanities in both heads. To refill the WATER tank, remove the WATER CAP located way up forward on port deck. Attach the hose to the dock spigot and let run for a minute before inserting into deck fitting, fill at a moderate rate so as to allow air to escape. Avoid flushing debris from the deck into the tank opening. DO NOT fill water and diesel at the same time! The water tank holds 100 gallons and should prove adequate. Fresh Water Pressure Pump The WATER PRESSURE PUMP is located in front of the engine. Activate the pump at the DC panel by turning on the breaker. If the water pump continues to run, you are either out of water or might have an air lock and need to bleed the system by opening up a faucet. If you run out of water SHUT OFF THE PRESSURE WATER PUMP AND THE HOT WATER HEATER on the AC panel. Serious damage can occur! Hot Water Tank The HOT WATER HEATER has a 6 gallon capacity tank and heats when connected to shore power. To use in the AC mode, flip on the water heater circuit breaker on the AC electrical panel. Do not use the water heater if the water tank level is very low. Shower Before taking a SHOWER, make sure water pressure breakers are on. To activate the hand-held wand, turn on the sink faucet. Take only very short boat showers (turning off water between soaping up and 10

rinsing). To keep shower tidy wipe down the shower stall and floor. Check for accumulation of hair in the shower and sink drains. An additional handheld shower as well as a separate shower stall is located in the aft head. Ensure that the faucets and nozzle are completely off after use. GALLEY Propane Stove & Oven The boat is equipped a low-pressure propane system for cooking. Your propane stove is activated by the following steps: #1 Turn on the propane tank located in the propane locker located on starboard mid deck. (Usually left on at all times.) #2 Turn on the solenoid switch located in galley above & to the right of the fridge. #3 Turn on the gas at the selected burner push/hold valve in and light with the butane torch located to the left on the knife rack. Valve should be held in for three seconds for the burner to stay lit, then release valve. When finished cooking turn off the burner, and the propane switch. The red light at the propane switch indicates the ON position. Turning the switch OFF will distinguish the light. To light the oven, turn the oven dial to the degree setting desired and light the pilot light with the butane torch. The pilot light is located at the bottom of the oven under the burner inside the oven. Oven degrees are in F. and when finished using the oven be sure to turn the oven dial to pilot off position. This turns off the propane to the pilot light. Refrigeration The refrigerator operates on 110-volt and 12-volt power. When underway, turn off the 110-volt breaker and turn on the 12-volt breaker, and be sure to monitor the use of the refrigerator when the engine is not charging the 12-volt battery system. When at the dock when 110-volt shore power is connected be sure to turn off the 12-volt breaker and turn on the 110-volt breaker. There is temperature dial inside the refrigerator which is set to 3, and at this setting will make ice cubes. To use the onboard ice trays, fill with water and place in the freezer. AYC will supplement you with 2 bags of ice. The refrigerator needs to be turned OFF at night when operating on 12-volt power at anchor to prevent drainage of the battery. HEATING & COOLING Cabin Propane Heater The bulkhead mounted cabin propane heater provides heat to the boat in the salon area. The propane switch in the galley must first be turned on showing the red light is lit, as this turns on the propane to the cabin heater. Turn the knob on the heater to the left to the pilot on position and hold the knob in while pushing the pilot striker, located on the left side of the heater. The striker might have to be struck many times while the propane leads to the heater. When the pilot light shows it is lit, hold the knob in for about 15 seconds and the pilot light will stay lit. Rotate the knob around to the high or low position and the burner will light. Select the desired setting for the amount of heat needed. Be sure to keep all objects away from the hot heater as it will melt them when close the heater, such as some clothes and coats that could have plastic or nylon contents. 11

Turn off the propane cabin heater before retiring for the night. Space Heaters (AC) Two 110-volt portable electric SPACE HEATERS are available when connected to shore power. One is located in each stateroom. Be sure to use them on the 900 watt setting as the breakers are set not to allow them to be used at the higher setting. Aft heater connects to the head outlet. ELECTRONICS All electronic manuals are located in the locker behind the chart table. Auto Pilot Autohelm 1000 Wheel-Pilot. To engage the autopilot, push the auto button and engage the lever on the left side of the wheel. Change course by pushing the ten degree or one degree button either to port or starboard. Stop auto pilot by pushing stand-by button, and release the lever. VHF Radio The VHF radio is located above the ladder to the left. Make sure the Instrument circuit breaker located at the DC panel is turned on. Turn radio on by turning the volume button at upper right of radio. Monitor channel 16 at all times. Cleaning LCD Screens Please use only LCD wipes (navigation table locker) on the radar and the GPS plotter screens to prevent scratching. THANK YOU! Raymarine SL-70 Radar To operate the Raymarine SL-70 radar, turn on Radar breaker at DC panel then press and hold the POWER button to turn the radar on. To turn off, press and hold POWER button about 3 seconds. Refer to the quick reference card at chart table. Remember AYC does not allow you to travel in FOG or in serious wind conditions. Global Positioning System (GPS) The quick reference guide is located in the chart table. The depth sounder is turned on at the DC panel labeled Instruments. The sounder should provide reliable readings in shallow waters as well as depth to 300ft. Ascertain that the breaker is on and then press the red color power button to activate. Consult the reference guide for operation. Hold about 3 seconds to turn off. GPS is considered a navigation aid. Do not rely on it. Compasses, charts, and dividers are the tools to plot position, course, and speed. 12

ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS AM/FM Stereo Cassette Radio The stereo unit is located at the chart table. It operates like a normal car radio. Instruction book at rear of lamp with 2 speakers (stereo) in the salon. ANCHORING The primary WORKING ANCHOR is a 45 lb. CQR and is attached to 200ft of chain rode passed through the deck from the ANCHOR LOCKER. The locker can be accessed through the front of the forward stateroom but do not open. If there is an anchor keeper, UNHOOK to release it. When setting the anchor, place the windlass handle into the slot beside the chain gypsy and pull back releasing the brake, then control the release rate of the anchor fall by braking it slowly, do not let anchor chain run away! Let out sufficient ANCHOR CHAIN and LOCK THE GYPSY BRAKE before setting the anchor. If gypsy fails to rotate, strike the gypsy with the base of the handle in the direction it should rotate to unstick it. RED painted links are placed every 10 feet on the chain, indicating the amount of chain rode. Example: 3 red links equals 30ft, - 6 red links equals 60ft, - 10 red links equals 100ft, etc. If you want to know how much chain has been released, release more chain until the next red links are visible and stop, then simply count the number of red links and multiply by ten. If the anchorage is crowded put down at least a 3 to 1 scope (60 feet for 20 feet of water), back the anchor in with a short burst from the engine. Then let out additional scope dependent upon conditions. Add 10ft of depth to your anchoring depth for the transducer offset and the bow sprit height over the surface (3 to 1 scope reading 20ft of water plus 10ft for offsets=30ft total depth with 90ft of anchor chain required). An all chain rode should be tied off (a running half hitch) to a strain relief line (cockpit locker) and tied off with the chain drooping slightly to keep the chain from rattling at anchor. To raise the anchor, place the windlass handle into the rear slot and move forward and back while the windlass chain gypsy is turned. Coordinate the maneuver with the helmsperson to remain steady above the anchor as it is raised. As the anchor rises, be careful not to allow it to swing against the hull. As the last link of the chain is on the roller, you ll have to lift the anchor stock onto the deck by hand as the anchor stock needs help to get on deck from vertical to horizontal. Lock the windlass gypsy after the chain is tightened and hook the safety strap onto the chain. Wash down then windlass and deck with buckets of water to wash off the dirt & mud. Before raising the anchor, start the engine. As the boat moves toward the anchor, take up the slack chain, rather than winching/pulling a tight line. Give the crew short rests as you are pulling it up. A spare Danforth 30lb anchor is stowed on the fwd port side rail. The 150ft SPARE ANCHOR RODE is located in the fwd port cockpit locker Attach the rode securely to the anchor before using. 13

Mooring Buoys/Cans The State Park Sticker on U Got A B Kiddin allows you to pick up the MOORING CANS in the parks for free. You only need to register at the kiosk usually located at the heads of the docks. Mooring cans have a metal triangle at the top upon which is a metal ring. The metal ring is attached to the chain which secures your boat. IT IS VERY HEAVY. The strongest member of your crew should be picked for this job. Approach the Buoy/Can into the wind as you would for anchoring. Have crew members on the bow, one with a boat hook and one with a mooring line secured to the deck cleat, like a bow line. As you are coming slowly up to the Buoy/Can have the crew holding the boat hook, point at the buoy/can with the boat hook so the skipper always knows where it is. Hook the buoy/can and bring the ring up to the boat to allow the second crew to thread the ring with the line. Release the hold with the boat hook. If your mooring line is led out the starboard chock bring the end of the line back through the port side chock and secure to the deck cleat. You will essentially create a bridle with about 10 feet of slack from the deck cleats to the buoy/can. SAILS AND RIGGING The 150% JIB is furled. The furling line is on the starboard deck rail. To unfurl the headsail, (a) un-cleat the furling line, (b) wrap the appropriate sheet around the appropriate winch, (c) pull the sheet aft while releasing/maintaining tension on the furling line to allow all furling line to properly roll, (d) cleat when desired reefing level has been achieved. To furl the jib, apply slight tension on the jib sheet while pulling on the furling line until there are three wraps of the sheet on the sail to hold the sail. Jib sheets are led back to the cockpit to the sheet winches. Use the jib sheet stoppers as little as possible as they tend to fray the lines badly. Adjust fairleads forward in heavy wind, aft in light wind. The Mainsail is raised on deck by hand. Head into the wind and raise the sail with the halyard winch on the mast. Jib sheets, mainsheet, and traveler can be operated from the enclosed cockpit. There is a soft boomvang and a Jiffy Reef for the mainsail. There is no solid boomvang, or spinnaker. Release the topping lift at the mast and drop the boom after the mainsail is raised. Release the Lazy Jacks at the mast when the mainsail is used and tighten before lowering the mainsail. Troubleshooting: 1. Mainsheet resists being let out. Check all lines. The boomvang should be loose. Be sure to be head to wind on raising the mainsail. Release the Topping Lift and Lazy Jacks. 2. Furling line gets stuck partway through the furling process. This is usually due to not applying proper tension on lines in furling and unfurling process. Try letting the sail out and repeating the process. Be sure you are headed into the wind to reduce pressure on the rig. If this fails you could have an over-ride in the furling drum. Go forward and clear the furling line to the drum or lead the furling line around the drum so it will roll in again. 3. There are so many other problems but that s what being a sailor is all about! 14

BARBECUE The BARBECUE and MOUNTING BRACKET are stored in the aft deck locker. Place MOUNTING BRACKET into the holder on the aft starboard rail. Reverse the procedure to dismount barbecue. Attach a PROPANE BOTTLE to the REGULATOR found in the locker. Carefully light the unit, preferably with a long-stem butane lighter. The barbecue generates a lot of heat and cooks hot and fast. Store the barbecue unit back in the aft deck locker. Please wipe with a paper towel before storing to prevent grease and dirt soiling the boat. Note: Propane bottles are not stocked by AYC. You will need to purchase one if extras are not found on board. Caution -- For safety reasons, do not store an opened propane bottle within the salon or engine compartment. Chances are these will leak slightly once opened and propane gas could settle into low spaces. Store these bottles in the rear locker. Ensure gasoline and flammable materials are not near the barbecue. DINGHY U Got A B Kiddin s 8 ½ ft Inflatable dinghy is included with this charter and stored onboard the front deck. Use the halyard winch to lower the dinghy into the water and replace onto the deck when traveling long distances. The dinghy tubes may go soft and may need to be pumped up. A large volume manual pump, oars, a dinghy seat are stored in the lazarette along with a repair kit. The DINGHY has a capacity of about 664 pounds (motor, equipment, and 3 people). Be sure when towing your dinghy, that one responsible individual is always keeping an eye on its tow rope when slowing down or stopping. Bring up all the slack to prevent a wrap around the propeller. When rowing your dinghy to shore, use EXTREME CAUTION. Choose an area free of any large rocks that might cause harm in beaching. Lift up on the dinghy to bring it up to higher ground. NEVER drag it! Secure it when leaving as the tides come up very quickly. Coast Guard regulations state that any child 14 and under must wear a life jacket in a dinghy. It is a good idea for everyone to follow this rule. A child, 12 and under must have a life jacket on at all times on any vessel under 20ft. Child Life Vests and adult life vests are hanging in the forward stateroom hanging locker. 5 Life jackets are stored in the container appropriately marked. Outboard Motor U Got A B Kiddin has a 7 ½ HP Mercury outboard engine included with the vessel charter, located on the stern rail. The 5 gallon fuel tank is stored in the lazarette. Starting the Motor: The motor uses regular gasoline with 2 cycle oil added. Open the air vent in the top of the 5 gallon fuel tank by unscrewing it 2-3 turns. Connect the fuel line from the 5 gallon tank to the front of the motor by pushing it in and then with a turn to the right, lock it in place. Squeeze the bulb located on the fuel line to pump gas into the carburetor. It should take a few squeezes to fill the carburetor. When pressure is felt and you can t squeeze it any more, stop, the gas is now into the carburetor. Start the Motor With the dinghy still attached to the stern ladder: Put the Shift lever into neutral. Pull out the choke 15

knob located on the front of the engine and twist the throttle grip to point to Start. Pull the starter cord. The motor should start after two or three pulls. If not, push in the choke knob and try again. (Note: The motor has a shift lever on the left side which will engage when put into forward or reverse. This shift lever must be in neutral or it will not start. Once started, slow the motor to idle position after warming up. The engine must be in slow position before shifting to forward or reverse. Start traveling slowly until you get the feel of running the motor. This engine when at full speed will get right up and push two people in the dinghy at about 15 MPH, depending on the weight in the dinghy. Just be sure to have a firm grip on the throttle and handle. Enjoy, it s lots of fun.. Stopping the Motor: Stop the Motor by twisting the throttle grip to Slow, and then push the motor stop button located on the left side of the engine. The motor is now ready to be started again and shouldn t require choking unless it is left un-run for a long time. If the motor is to be hoisted back onto the stern rail, Disconnect the fuel line from the motor and start the engine to run all of the fuel out of the carburetor. Screw in the air vent on top of the fuel tank (closed). Attach the lifting block from the davit to the motor sling then loosen the clamps on the motor mount and lift the motor to the stern rail with the lifting davit blocks. Be sure to tighten the motor clamps to the stern rail mount after placement. Install the locking bar. Wipe off all fuel from the hose & tank and store the gas tank in the lazerette. Outboard Motor Davit The outboard motor davit is located in the lazarette, (aft deck locker). To assemble, install the stainless pole into the rail mounted receiver and onto the ball mounted on the deck below the receiver. Mount the davit onto the pole and assemble the brace onto the arm. Swing the davit arm over the 7 ½ HP Mercury outboard on the stern rail and attach to the motor sling on the outboard. Loosen the motor clamps and lift the outboard off the rail and secure the line while you go down the stern ladder into the dinghy. When in the dinghy, take the davit lifting line loose from the securing cleat and slowly lower the outboard onto the back of the dinghy and secure the motor clamps in place. Reverse the procedure to replace the outboard on the stern rail. Crabbing & Fishing Always check the fishing and crabbing requirements before you leave on your cruise. You will need a Fishing license. Many areas are CLOSED to crabbing and fishing on certain months. Set the Crab trap AWAY from the boat! Lines can get wrapped around props. If you are fortunate enough to catch some keeper crabs, please do not cook them on the boat. Fish-flavored cat food with the pop-up ringed lids will work the best for a nice neat way to bait the cage. After an hour or so, retrieve the crab trap. Measure any crabs in the trap using the crab measuring gauge. Keep the male crabs of proper size (usually 6 ¼ inches across the carapace). Boil crabs about 12 minutes to cook. After using, wash equipment thoroughly with sea water. Safety First!! We want you to have a great time on your cruise but most of all we want you to be safe. Please be careful while sailing and cruising on the boat! Use caution and the handrails to keep from falling off the boat, especially while underway. The waters are cold in the Northwest if you fall in you only have a few minutes before hypothermia sets in. While having skills for Man over board are important, not needing them through prevention is even better. Fire hazards exist; on board are diesel fuel, propane, and 16

gasoline. All burn, some explode. Keep unintended sparks and flames away! Do NOT become a human fender! Never get between the boat and anything else the dock, another boat or (heaven forbid) a rock. Use caution around any moving parts, ie: using a sheet winch. Safety Orientation know where your safety equipment is located, learn how to use it before you might need it and discuss and perhaps drill with all on board. Do NOT drink and boat until you are docked or moored for the day. A MAN OVERBOARD DRILL should be discussed and perhaps even practiced with a life jacket. Remember, Flares are stowed in the locker behind the chart table. A few lifejackets should always be out and ready. Lifejackets and other safety equipment are stowed as follows: 1 Adult life vest, 2 youth life vests & 1 child life vest in the forward stateroom hanging locker; 3 Adult Life Jackets in the aft stateroom hanging locker; Battery powered flashlights in the various drawers around the boat; Hand held air horn behind the starboard settee back, First Aid kits in each vanity cabinet; Life Ring: Yellow - Located on the rail, port side deck; Fire extinguishers mounted under the stairs in the salon, aft stateroom, & forward stateroom. U Got A B Kiddin is equipped with an AUTOMATIC BILGE PUMP. The master switch is located on the electrical DC control panel and when turned on will activate the bilge pump manually. If you manually activate this breaker to turn the pump on, be sure to turn it off when finished with it and it will return to the automatically activated position. Normally, the breaker is left in the OFF/AUTO position. You may occasionally hear the pump operate due to condensation and water from the shaft log accumulating in the bilge. An AUXILIARY HAND OPERATED BILGE PUMP is operated from the port side near the chart table using the handle provided for that purpose in the locker above the pump. This is used only in emergency situations. The Blue Perkins ENGINE SPARES Bag is stowed in the fwd stateroom under the berth in the starboard locker. This spares bag includes Spare Alternator, Oil Filters, Fuel Filters, Raw Water Impeller, Spare Toilet Pump parts, Injector, Spare Pressure Water Pump, Alternator/Water Pump Belt, and other small parts. Oil, oil pads and hoses are stored below the starboard settee in the salon. A SPARE PROPELLER is not aboard. A spare TOILET is not aboard. Thru Hull Fitting Locations All thru hull fittings have been mentioned in each section as above. Please check each section for their locations, ie: galley sole, below the vanities in each head, Engine raw water shutoff in galley sole, below starboard settee, etc. 17
