1 August 18-21, 2016 Alamitos Bay Yacht Club Long Beach, California USA NOTICE OF RACE The Organizing Authority for the 2016 Cal 20 Class Championship is Alamitos Bay Yacht Club (ABYC), 7201 E. Ocean BL, Long Beach, California USA. 1. RULES 1.1. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the Cal 20 Association Constitution and By-Laws dated May 1, The US Sailing prescriptions to rules 60, 63.2 and 63.4 are deleted The following prescriptions of US Sailing will apply: Appendix T, rule T1 Penalties at the time of Incident In accordance with rule 70.5(a), decisions of the protest committee for the Qualifying Races are final. US Sailing's permission has been granted. If the requirements are not met, the decisions of the protest committee may be appealed. 2. ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY 2.1. The regatta is open to the boats of the Cal 20 class whose owner/skipper is a member of the Cal 20 Class Association and meets association ownership criteria Bronze division skippers and sailors in the Jr Championship need not be members of the Class Association or meet ownership requirements Skippers in the Jr Championship shall not have reached their 19 th Birthday before the regatta Masters skippers shall have reached their 60 th birthday before the regatta Registered skippers must helm all races in the regatta Bronze division boats need not be measured but must be unmodified Cal 20 s 3. REGATTA FORMAT 3.1. If there are more than 25 boats entered (excluding Bronze), Friday will be qualifying races in which boats will sail in a round-robin format. Based on the standings from those races, boats will be placed into a Gold division and a Silver division. a) If there are 25 or less boats- All skippers desiring to sail in the Gold division will advance. 4/10/2016

2 b) If there are 26 to 35 boats- 23 boats will advance to the Gold division. c) If there are 36 to 40 boats- 25 boats will advance to the Gold division. d) If there are more than 40 boats - 30 boats will advance to the Gold division Skippers may choose to skip qualifying and enter the Silver division No qualifying is required for Bronze division 3.4. The Junior Championship will be held on the Thursday before the qualifying races. 4. FEES 4.1. Entry fees are as follows: Early Entry Standard Entry On or before July 31 Championship / Consolation Division $135 $170 Bronze Division $90 $110 Jr Championship $15 $20 Refunds will include an administrative fee of $ Eligible boats may enter online using this link or at ABYC.org. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED VIA MAIL OR FAX. To enter online, click on this link All entries must be received by Wednesday, August 17, AN ENTRY IS NOT COMPLETE UNTIL ALL FEES HAVE BEEN PAID. Any entries received in advance of the late-fee deadline but without fees will be charged the late fee The Gold and Silver division entry fee includes all racing, two (2) tickets for the Friday hamburger bash and two (2) tickets for the Saturday dinner. Bronze division entry fee includes all racing and two (2) tickets for the Saturday dinner. Jr Division entry fee includes all racing Additional tickets for the hamburger bash may be ordered for $12. MEASUREMENT 6.1. No measurement will be performed at the event. All boats must have a valid measurement certificate and submit a copy of the certificate at Registration. All sails must have a valid measurement stamp. Bronze fleet competitors are exempt from these requirements. 7. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 7.1. Sailing instructions will be available at Registration and on-line at ABYC.org. 8. VENUE The Junior Championship will be sailed in the waters of Alamitos Bay The Class Championship will be sailed in the Long Beach harbor behind the federal breakwater. 9. SCORING 9.1. Three (3) qualifying races are scheduled, of which one (1) must be completed Seven (7) races are scheduled for the Gold/Silver Series, of which three (3) must be completed to constitute a series Four (4) races are scheduled for the Bronze Series, of which one (1) must be completed to constitute a series Three (3) races are scheduled for the Jr Championship, of which one (1) must be completed to constitute a series 9.5. In each series a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores Masters skippers will be scored against each other. Gold division skippers will be scored ahead of silver division skippers 10. RADIO COMMUNICATION The Race Committee will make use of VHF radios to keep sailors informed of Start Times, On Course Side (OCS), Postponements and other information regarding the racing.

4 11. COACH/SUPPORT/SPECTATOR BOATS Coach/support/spectator boats are allowed for this regatta. All coach/support/spectator boats must register with the race committee, be equipped with or supply their own VHF radios, be prepared to monitor a designated VHF channel if requested to do so by the race committee and be prepared to render assistance to any boat in need and perform any other function requested of them by the race committee. Full rules regarding coach/support/spectator boats will be in the sailing instructions. 12. PRIZES Prizes will be awarded to the top five (5) finishers in the Championship Series, the top three (3) finishers in the Consolation Series, the top two (2) finishers in the Bronze Series and the top three (3) finishers in the Jr Championship The following perpetual trophies will be presented: Winner of the Qualifying Races Winner of the Gold division (Cal-20 Class Championship Perpetual Trophy) Winner of the Silver division (Gary O. Thompson Trophy) Winner of the Masters Series (L.N. Slater Trophy) Second place in the Gold division (Neil Baker Memorial Trophy) Leader after the first day of the Gold division (Bud Gardiner Trophy) Highest-placing woman skipper in the Gold division (Nick Condos Trophy) Best boat and trailer (Bravura Trophy) Ugliest boat ("The Hank") 13. PARKING AND STORAGE Due to space limitations, vehicle parking on ABYC grounds is restricted. Offstreet parking is available across the street in municipal lots. Participants should obtain vehicle parking passes from the ABYC office The Regatta fee includes launching, recovery, and storage for visiting competing boats from the day prior to the event until the day following the event. If the event ends on a Sunday, this period is extended to the next day the club is open, as ABYC is closed on Monday and Tuesday Visiting competing boats may request extended storage IN ADVANCE by contacting the ABYC office. The cost is $10.00 per day paid in advance Any boat or trailer found on ABYC property without prior written authorization from ABYC is subject to impound and associated fees. 14. BERTHING & HAUL OUT RESTRICTIONS Unless withdrawing from the regatta, a boat may not be hauled out after she begins racing on or after Friday, except with permission, specified in writing, by the Regatta Chair. Permission may be granted after hauling All boats must be moored at ABYC after the end of racing each day Hull cleaning will be available at ABYC.

5 15. HOSPITALITY The hospitality of ABYC is extended to all participants. The Galley will be open each day. Regatta Breakfast menu and bag lunches will be available. The club bar will be open after racing. 16. LODGING There are no camping facilities in the area except for Bolsa Chica State Beach, which allows self-contained RV's only Hotel information can be found on the ABYC website. Link here. 17. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS Rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. 18.
