1 NOTICE OF REGATTA 2016 ATLANTIC CLASS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP July NIANTIC BAY YACHT CLUB June 1, 2016 Dear Atlantic Class Skippers, Crew & Friends: The Niantic Bay Yacht Club and its Atlantic Fleet are pleased to host the 88 th National Championship Regatta of the Atlantic Class Association on July All of the details are attached and I ask that your entry be submitted on or before July 1 to ensure adequate housing and meals. Shirt and hat orders MUST be received by June 24! Boats will be stored on moorings and at docks. Dock space will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis per receipt date of entry. If you will be trailering your Atlantic, our club hoist will be able to launch and haul your boat. Please be sure to identify on the entry form when and how your boat will arrive so that we can plan accordingly. Launching and hauling is not restricted by tide level. A number of sponsors have been secured providing either cash donations, product donations or swag which will all be put to creative use!. Finally, we are pleased to report that Ken Legler will serve as our PRO. Under Ken s leadership and some help from Mother Nature, we expect an outstanding event both on and off the water. 3 2016 ATLANTIC NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES GENERAL INFORMATION ENTRY Eligibility is limited to Atlantic owners in good standing, and charter skippers whose charters are in conformance with Class Rules, sailing Atlantic Class yachts which meet Class Rules and certification requirements, and who have completed and accepted entries. The Entry Fee is $625 and covers the following: Six championship races (if time and weather permit) Dinners and set-ups for four on Wednesday, 7/20, Thursday, 7/21 and Friday, 7/22; post regatta party, Saturday, 7/23 Lunches for four on Thursday, 7/21, Friday, 7/22 and Saturday, 7/23 Full Breakfast Buffet on Thursday, 7/21, Friday, 7/22 and Saturday, 7/23 Cocktail Party on Thursday, July 21 sponsored by Sound Rigging, Atlantic Computing and Smith Insurance Keeper trophies for top three finishers (top 5 if 15 or more yachts race) Launching and hauling on the club hoist Mooring and dockage for Atlantics and support craft Entry application requires the entry form, entry fee, the certification form signed by a Rules Committee member and a certificate of insurance. CERTIFICATION Section 17 (Championship Series) of the Atlantic Class Association Rules shall apply. Entries will not be accepted unless accompanied by a completed Certification Form, copy enclosed, which has been signed by a Rules Committee Member. No sails will be measured at NBYC after Monday, July 18. Note: It is required that each boat owner carry a minimum of $300,000 liability insurance protection. Please include a certificate of insurance from your agent or insurance company as proof of such coverage. RULES The Regatta will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing including the prescriptions of the United States Sailing Association, the Rules of the Atlantic Class Association, and this Notice of Race (except as any of these may be modified by the Sailing Instructions). PRIZES The Atlantic Class Trophy will be presented to the winner at the Atlantic Class Annual Meeting along with keeper prizes for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd places. If 15 or more yachts start in any one race, prizes will be awarded for 4 th and 5 th. LAUNCHING/HAULING NBYC has a 3 ton plus crane to handle boats coming by trailer. Launching and hauling at NBYC is limited to those boats with lifting eyes. All others can be handled at Port Niantic. Launching and hauling at NBYC is not restricted by tide level. 4 DOCKAGE AND MOORING Niantic Bay YC will provide either dock space or moorings subject to availability and on a first received completed Entry Form basis. Launch service will be available. HOUSING NBYC members will make every effort to accommodate competitors who desire housing. Please fill out the attached Housing Reservation Form and include it with the Entry Form. Please mail along with the Entry Form. COMMEMORATIVE T-SHIRTS & HATS Our 2016 shirt and hat have been custom designed and are sure to be another collectors item! Don t miss out! T-shirts and hats can be ordered by completing the Order Form attached here or on the website. Orders must be received by June 24 to ensure on time delivery. The cost is $15 per hat and $20 per shirt ($25 for 2XL and 3XL). SPECTATOR BOATS We must rely on NBYC members to provide spectator boats. Space will be limited and is on a first come, first served basis. Skippers, please notify us if you have a tender that can accommodate some spectators. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Sailing Instructions will be posted on the Web Site ( by July 14. Details will be reviewed at the Skippers Meeting on Thursday, 7/21. DIRECTIONS TO NIANTIC BAY YC From I95 North or South, take Exit 72 (Rocky Neck State Park/Route 156). Go left at the end of exit onto Route 156. Proceed to the fourth light and turn right onto Black Point Rd. Follow Black Point Rd. bearing left to the railroad trestle. Go under the railroad trestle to the stop sign. Turn left.
