2 Cruising Yachts, Motor Boats and Racing Enthusiasts On behalf of the RSYS Cruise Committee, cruising yachts, racing yachts and motor boats are cordially invited to participate in the 49 th Annual Cruise to Broken Bay, Cowan Creek, Coal and Candle Creek and Pittwater; 21 to 28 April The cruise is designed to bring together families and friends for a week to enjoy, the best pristine cruising grounds of any location on Australia s east coast. What could be better than being anchored in one of the dozens of secluded bays in company with other yachts, sharing with friends this wonderful location? It is held in the second week of the school holidays so why not get together a group of friends, borrow, charter or bring your own boat and have a great family week on board? Many lifelong friendships have been made on Squadron Cruises. For competitive participants, there is also a program of up to six races comprising four inshore races and two passage races (Sydney to Pittwater and return). Yachts can enter one or any number of racing events that suits their crewing arrangements. The Notice of Race is included as an appendix. Sailing Instructions will be issued separately. The social program provides the opportunity to assemble in a different location almost every evening. There is something for everyone; an evening BBQ ashore, progressive dinner on board, Galley Gourmet Challenges, a picnic ashore at Coasters Retreat and lunches at excellent local restaurants and cafes. The Squadron provides support in the form of MV Mischief which doubles as the race committee boat and base for the management of all activities including publication of the daily Cruise News. The Squadron also provides an RIB with driver for limited tender service to scheduled events. This ensures that everyone can get the maximum benefit out of their participation and have a trouble-free holiday. The cost of your entry is shown in the Notice of Race. So, if you are a keen cruising person and would like to enjoy a fabulous holiday please join in, to experience the wonder of Broken Bay and to enjoy cruising with company. 4 CRUISING OFFSHORE When cruising offshore, it is essential that all yachts comply with the regulations of Roads and Maritime Services as summarized in the Roads & Maritime Handbook. This handbook is a valuable reference to carry on board. The requirements for offshore cruising include: New life jacket standards and simplified requirements for wearing: the type 150 and 150 inflatable are recommended. The 150 has a collar to help keep the wearer's head above water Carrying an EPIRB (406 MHz + GPS) is compulsory Carrying a suitable radio (VHF) is compulsory Rules governing crossing bars. Remember, 'the skipper is responsible' so make sure you understand the minimum requirements to satisfy both the law and the safety of your vessel and crew. NOTICE OF RACE & CRUISE 1. RULES All racing is governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing for (RRS) of World Sailing as amended. In the event of conflict between rules or regulations, other than RRS, the Sailing Instructions will prevail. 2. ADVERTISING All races governed by the notice of race are classified category C in accordance with RRS ELIGIBILITY 3.1 A racing entry must be of a mono hull construction. 3.2 For the ocean/passage events all racing participants shall have a minimum crew number of three, two of which will be over the age of 18 years. 3.4 For all inshore racing participants shall have a minimum crew number of two. 3.5 Entries will only be accepted from members of a recognized yacht club. 3.6 At least one member of the crew shall hold a radio operators certificate. 3.7 Yachts entering inshore races shall submit, with its entry a current valid Australian Sailing (AS) special regulations compliance form, Category 7 or higher. Yachts entering offshore/passage races shall submit with its entry, a current valid AS special regulations compliance form, Category 4 or higher. 3.8 In addition to AS special regulations Category 4 the RSYS requires that yachts shall also comply with AS special regulations section 4 part 4.03 for Category 3 jackstays, clipping points and safety lines.

5 3.9 Yachts entering in the offshore/passage races must have a serviceable engine capable of sustaining a speed of 5 knots in smooth water and sufficient fuel for 10 hours motoring at 5 knots Yachts shall not set any sails forward of a mast which are not normally carried forward of that mast when working to windward. Any sails set forward of a mast shall be attached to the stay in the centerline of the yacht and only one such sail may be boomed (sails such as a Gennaker or Code Zero are not permitted) Yachts shall not carry anchors protruding beyond the bow while racing All participating yachts, are required to fly the Squadron Cruise Flag and their division flag continuously from their backstays from first joining until leaving the cruise The race committee reserves the right to determine the division to which a boat is allocated The determination of racing division shall not be subject to protest or grounds for redress (amends RRS 60.1 & 62). 4. ENTRY Eligible racing yachts and cruising yachts must enter and pay the base fee to Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron online by selecting this link or by completing the entry form. There is no reduction for casual participation. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Sailing Instructions will be available from the RSYS Sailing Office or from the RSYS website on Monday 16 April 2018; select this link 7. RACING AREA Racing shall be conducted between Port Jackson and Broken Bay, including the waters inside Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour) and Broken Bay (Pittwater/Hawkesbury). 8. COURSES 8.1 Racing will consist of both inshore and offshore as described in the Sailing Instructions.

6 8.2 Alternative courses will be provided for changes in the program. 9. SCORING 9.1 Scoring System The Low Point scoring system, RRS Appendix A, applies subject to the following amendments; Non Starting A boat scored did not start (DNS) shall be awarded points equal to the number of pointscore entries in that race plus one point Non Finishing A boat scored retired (RET) or did not finish (DNF) shall be awarded points equal to the number of pointscore finishers in the race plus one point Disqualification Boats which are disqualified (DSQ) shall be awarded points equal to the number of pointscore entries in the race plus two points Abandonment When a race is abandoned after the start and not re-sailed, boats that started shall be awarded zero points. When a race is abandoned before the start, all boats entered shall be awarded zero points. 10 Pointscores 10.1 All pointscores are open to block entries only There will be 4 possible pointscores (depending on the number of entries); The Alan Payne Trophy 2 passage races contested in one combined division Inshore Series 4 races contested in 3 separate divisions. 11. RESPONSIBILITIES 13.1 Risk Warning - The Organising Authority advises owners, skippers and anyone who participate in yachting events conducted by the Organising Authority that participation in the sport of yachting, whether racing or otherwise, can be dangerous and can result in harm, personal injury and property damage. The Organising Authority is not responsible for any harm or injury suffered by any person in any yachting event of whatever nature conducted by the Organising Authority. All participants acknowledge that competing in yachting events may be dangerous and may result in harm or personal injury and they participate in such events aware of such dangers and voluntarily accept any risk of harm Competitors Declaration - It is the responsibility of owners and skippers to ensure that each boat nominated on the entry form complies with the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing. All competitors who sign the entry form in doing so have made a declaration to the Organising Authority that the nominated boat will at all times while racing comply with the requirements of Australian Sailing and the Sailing Instructions, including: (a) RRS 46; (b) (c) (d) (e) the Australian Sailing Special Regulations; being covered by current Third Party Property Liability insurance and Third Party Personal Liability insurance of not less than $10,000,000 (ten million) for each separate incident. All insurance cover shall be maintained during the period of the Cruise; the person who signs and lodges the entry form with the Organising Authority warranting to the Organising Authority that he or she will draw the attention of any person who competes on the yacht the subject of the entry form in any event conducted by the Organising Authority to the risk warning above; the person who signs and lodges this entry form with the Organising Authority acknowledging receipt of the risk warning above and releasing the Organising Authority from any claim or liability whatsoever for any harm or personal injury suffered by him, or by any person claiming through him, in any event conducted by the Organising Authority Disclaimer of Liability (a) All those taking part in these races do so at their own risk and responsibility. Specific attention is drawn to RRS 4 which states; "The responsibility for a boat's decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone". The RSYS, RPEYC, sponsors, respective class associations, the Race Committee and other race officials are not responsible for any damage or injury either afloat or ashore. (b) The RSYS, sponsors, the Race Committee and other race officials are not responsible for the seaworthiness of a boat whose entry is accepted or the sufficiency or adequacy of its equipment. (c) All those taking part in these races are reminded of their obligations as set out in the Australian Sailing Special Regulations clause 1.02 Owner's Responsibility.
