4 Presidents Report 2012 Ken Hurling Welcome Everyone, In my 2011 report I mentioned that Scott Cavanough was racing in the Mini Transit, across the Atlantic. Bad news - he was run down by a Super Tanker and lost his Yacht. He survived and still has the dream. Best of luck Scott! YQ have continued to try to overcome our geographical problems in Queensland by working to support and develop the many Yacht and Dinghy clubs in Queensland. The new programs introduced by YA, Discover Sailing and Tackers, are being introduced in some Clubs and these programs, if taken up by Clubs, will have two outcomes - new members, and increased participation. This year YQ hosted the first conference for many years in Queensland. I have had requests that this should be an annual event with positive feedback from many of the visiting Club Officials. The Gemba Report was received well by Clubs and some have had a close look at their operations. The best message is that Clubs cannot keep running the way they have in the past. We have a lot of competition from other Sports and whilst some clubs have been successful, many need to improve services to their Members and Discover Sailing etc. We, as sailing administrators, need to invite Primary School students to our Clubs from 6 years old onwards. This is a huge growth area. Between the Brisbane River and the pie shop on the highway, there are about 60,000 students - a gold mine for all Brisbane based Clubs. This figure could be the same percentage of population in Regional Districts. This Year, after 40 years, Queensland has another two Olympic Gold Medallists with Mat Belcher in the Open 470 Class and in the Paralympics with Dan Fitzgibbon in the Scud 18 Class. It s been a long time coming since John Cuneo won Gold in the Dragon Class in Brendan Casey qualified for his first Olympics and performed well. I hope he tries again. Well done everyone, Brazil is just four years away. Our YQ Youth Squad has performed well this year with 3 sailors going to Ireland to compete at the ISAF Youth World Championships. As yet, no medals this year but I feel we are getting close. Congratulations to all as these will be the Olympians of tomorrow. Last year, with the ISAF World Cup Regatta being held in Perth, the Down Under Series Regattas were hard to hold in December and brought about the cancellation of Sail Brisbane. The ongoing negotiations with southern States have been hard with Victoria wanting the early December dates. This forced YQ to move Sail Brisbane to Easter 2013 which has been well received by sailors and all looks good for a great Regatta. This result has come from the hard work of Ben and Adrian. Thank you. Lastly I would like to thank our staff, Denis Cook, Ben Callard, Josh Belsham, and Kay Waters for a job well done, and look forward to another great year in

6 Operational Report Denis Cook Yachting Queensland s Vision Support, coordinate and promote all aspects of sailing with the highest participation level across the whole yachting community This year has been a mixed year for the development of the sport. We have unfortunately lost two of our smaller clubs, Lake Baroon Sailing Club and the Amberley RAAF Group, with others beginning the road to recovery after their dams in the south eastern corner remain full after 6 years of drought. It is hoped that these western Clubs will now join YQ following 12 months of regrouping. The beginning of the financial year saw the continuing of the yearly competition amongst our keel boat group heading north from Brisbane to Keppel then on to the Northern Clubs for the Airlie Beach Race Week, Hamilton Island followed by Magnetic Island enjoying the warmer winter months offered by our Northern Clubs. At the same time we had the Youth of Australia competing in the Oamps Youth Week and the Australian Mid Winter Youth Championships. Also at this time ASC commissioned the conducting of what became the Gemba report on sailing in Australia, a major review of the sport with a set of clear guidelines for the sport to develop and increase participation. At this time YQ also agreed with YA that subject to having structured programs for the delivery of training, YQ would once again control the delivery of YA programs in the State. This was achieved and YQ took the helm of training from 1 st July The Gemba report identified that the sport was not accepted as being inclusive for all, recommending changes to the way we present ourselves to the masses. Discover Sailing was developed to become the new marketing phrase for the sport. Final months of 2011 the youth of the state commenced serious training in preparation for what became the biggest summer of sailing seen in Qld for many years. RQYS provided the perfect venue for hosting National Titles for our Sport s development classes culminating with the Australian Youth Championships, January 2012, thanks must be given to the many volunteers who gave up their time to making these events recognized by the many visiting competitors as the best ever. MBBC played a first by hosting the 420 Class National s, they were assisted by HBYC members and many volunteers and developed what can be seen as the forging of dinghy competition at the Club. From the summer competition Qld was honoured to have Louise Evans, Joel Turner and Tom Siganto winning the right to represent the State at the World Youth Championships 6

7 in Japan. YQ s own Ben Callard was also selected to be the coach for the Australian Youth Team, travelling to Japan with the AYT in March Sail Paradise and Sail Mooloolaba again proved that these events are growing and forging a position within the State s major events, drawing interstate competitors to enjoy our excellent sailing areas and weather. Qld hosted the World Laser Masters in March 2012 and again RQYS provided the perfect venue with sailors from all parts of the World attending. In March 2012 the YQ Board gave permission for the Association to purchase 10 Tacker Yachts and commence conducting the YA endorsed program of TACKERS at DPSS demonstrating to other Clubs the working of the program. This move proved that TACKERS can be operated successfully in Qld and resulted in both NY&RC and RQYS signing agreements in June 2012 to commence the program. June 2012 the MYC (Mackay) combined resources with the Mackay Region Council in hosting the North Queensland Games. During all this sailing activity YQ, YA along with representatives from other States and Territories were meeting both in person and by media to develop processes and agreement to deliver the new concept of Discover Sailing to all Clubs, Training Centres and the larger community. YQ also conducted a Club Conference on the Sunshine Coast with 50 + club members attending to receive presentation from Ross Kilborn (YA) on the need to change our way of engaging the public and members, all identified by the Gemba report and supported by the ASC. As the year closed we again had RQYS preparing to host 2 world championships for the Laser Class along with the YQ/Oamps Youth Championships and YQ commencing the implementation of Discover Sailing Centres replacing the old YATC as the future image of the Sport. In closing, I thank you all for your assistance during and look forward to working with you for the coming year and the challenges it may present. I also thank Ben, Kay, Josh and Alex for their assistance and their attention to detail provided to the many enquires received during the year. 10 Training Officers Report Ben Callard Discover Sailing The Discover Sailing program is an Australia wide initiative that engages Yachting Australia, the State Associations and Clubs in a common objective of increasing participation in sailing at affiliated clubs. It is primarily an attraction strategy to involve the broader public in the sport of sailing by developing plans, policies, and programs that overcome barriers to participation in the sport. It is funded by the Australian Sports Commission under its Pathways to Success initiative. The Program promotes sailing as fun, safe, accessible and affordable for people of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities, as well as portraying Clubs as welcoming and social places that offer a diverse range of participation opportunities. Hopefully by now all clubs in Queensland are aware of the Discover Sailing brand and the positives to the club of being involved with the program. A new website has been released and is designed to be the first point of contact for the public to sailing. The website has information on clubs, learn to sail programs, open days and much more. In an exciting new development it also hosts a search platform where members of the public can search to find their closest club or course by entering their postcode. The Discover Sailing site is a great vehicle to start the change of the image of sailing being inaccessible. The Discover Sailing website links to a clubs MyClub profile so every club in Australia is mentioned and clubs can keep their own records (e.g. contact details, events, websites and facilities) up to date as they change from time to time. For more information on how your club can implement and benefit from the Discover Sailing branding and programs please visit the Yachting Australia website and click on the Participation link. Discover Sailing Centres Discover Sailing Centres (previously known as Yachting Australia Training Centres) are a Club or Centre which is accredited to deliver Yachting Australia Learn to Sail or Powerboat Programs through qualified Yachting Australia Instructors. They adhere to Yachting Australia standards that ensure safety and customer satisfaction in order to attain and retain this status. Only Clubs or Centres accredited to do so, can display and promote the Discover Sailing brand as they have the services, systems and standards in place to uphold the brand Discover Sailing. A Club that does not deliver the Yachting Australia Learn to Sail Programs, but has a Commercial Centre on site that does, can be a Discover Sailing Club. 10

11 The major benefits of being an accredited Discover Sailing Club or Centre are: Fulfilment of community and customer expectations. Yachting Australia accreditation may help provide that and prove your Club/Centre meets best practice. Fulfilment of Duty of Care. Customers and government generally seek assurance of selfregulation and proper management processes, in addition to compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements. Recognition by Australian Marine Safety Authority, and State Marine Regulators. Yachting Australia Programs and Courses generally have that recognition under State Regulations. Recognition by other government departments. The Australian Sports Commission and State Departments, including Education, and other bodies such as Scouts/Guides, and the Defence Forces, all rely on assurances of the quality and standards of the Yachting Australia Programs. Access to qualified Instructors. A key role for Yachting Australia and its member States is the training, qualification and ongoing professional development of quality Instructors. Access to Nationally Recognised Programs, Courses, materials, and standards. These Programs are consistent throughout Australia and structured around the sports processes and pathways to maximise the success of customers returning for further courses, joining the sport on an ongoing basis, and being retained. Minimised Risk and reduced exposure to liability. A Discover Sailing Centre operating within the Yachting Australia Operating Standards and Guidelines and using Yachting Australia qualified Instructors is likely to be a safer environment for both customers and the Instructors themselves. Unambiguous insurance cover. As a condition of being accredited, a Club/Centre accredited with Yachting Australia holds current appropriate insurance. National Promotion of upcoming courses to the public via the Discover Sailing Website, ( and the State Associations website. National registration, recognition, and information technology system. MyCentre has been developed in response to what Clubs/Centres said would help them run their Programs more efficiently and effectively. Support by State and Territory Associations in developing and managing Programs. Every State (and Territory) has someone whose role it is in that State to help Clubs/Centres improve their business, whether that is through the Annual Review process or issue specific discussions. Yachting Queensland has taken over the administration of the Discover Sailing Centres in the state from Yachting Australia and have 20 clubs and centres signed up for and our goal is to work more closely with them to ensure all programs are successful. 11

12 Tackers The objective of the Tackers program is to attract a significantly increased number of primary school age children to sailing, especially those who would not otherwise participate, and have them participate in an initial fun sailing experience before progressing on a pathway, to a full learn to sail program over three main levels, then non-competitive participation, and long-term club membership. The Tackers Mission emerged in response to clubs desire to increase rates of participation in sailing at the grass roots level within Australia, particularly with regard to the number of children entering the sport. The central theme of the mission is to deliver a more effective and structured approach to the attraction and retention of children within sailing at Yachting Australia affiliated clubs. Tackers was developed to provide a junior entry level program for large numbers of primary school aged children to enter the sport within yacht clubs around Australia. The program is aimed at children from aged 7 to 12 years and comprises sequential development through three main courses/levels each involving 20 hours of tuition from Yachting Australia qualified Instructors and Assistant Instructor who have been inducted into their role in Tackers. The three main levels of Tackers are: Tackers 1 Having Fun Tackers 2 Tricks & Techniques Tackers 3 Sailing Fast! With the roll out of Tackers Nationally, Yachting Queensland started a pilot program which ran out of the Darling Point Sailing Squadron but operated and managed by Yachting Queensland. The program was successful with courses oversubscribed and good retention into the subsequent levels. The DPSS also did a great job of capturing siblings and parents who were hanging around the club and worked to engage them in club activities and programs. So far the following clubs are approved to deliver Tackers: Noosa Yacht & Rowing Club Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron *Darling Point Sailing Squadron is almost finished approval. 14 The squad have participated in five training camps so far this year and have one camp still to come in mid November. The program is partly participant funded with each member contributing a $500/year membership fee, the rest of the costs are paid for by Yachting Queensland. The membership fee includes the six coaching camps, Gill Squad Uniform and coaching support at selected regattas. Queensland High Performance Program QHPP The 2012 QHPP have had a year of success. Leading the way was Matthew Belcher winning a Gold Medal in the 470 class at the 2012 Olympic Games, Daniel Fitzgibbon also won a Gold Medal in the Skud 18 at the 2012 Paralympics Games and Brendan Casey finished a very respectable 13 th in the Finn class. Huge congratulations to all these sailors for their performance at the games and their commitment and dedication to being the best and gaining selection in the Australian Olympic Team. 17 Yachting Queensland Media & Events Josh Belsham Yachting Queensland is continuing its previous years goal of increased media coverage and public knowledge of the sport of sailing. We have participated in no less than eight promotional events and even had a major feature on The Boat Show which is a new television series developed by Marine Queensland that aired on 31 Digital. We have continued to increase our involvement with school fetes at a grass roots level to hopefully get our foot in the door and one day have sailing as an option for sport within many of the primary and secondary schools right across Queensland saw a very busy events calendar as Marine Queensland and Yachting Queensland have again worked closely together to ensure sailing gets plenty of exposure at any of the Marine Queensland organised events. Shows we have had a presence at include: 2011 Sunshine Coast Marine Festival 2012 Tinnie & Tackle Show 2012 Brisbane Boat Show 2012 Power Sail & Paddle 2012 Outdoor Expo 2012 Super Sports Sign On Day 2012 St Kieran s Fete 2012 Faith Lutheran College Funfest Media Officer Max Von Richter s 29er suspended from the roof of The Southbank Convention Centre Our previous Media Officer, Andrew Gough, secured a job in the film and television industry and was no longer available to work on a casual basis, Andrew s photos and media coverage of sailing events will be sorely missed. We have been fortunate enough to utilise the services of Alex Ker who is a keen sailor and studying marketing at university. Whilst Alex does not have the photography skills of Andrew, he is doing a very good job of keeping our Facebook page running smoothly and ensuring any of our activities are covered adequately in all of the required media releases. 17

18 Website Yachting Queensland endeavours to continually update and improve its website. The main focus of the site is to be an information portal for sailors, a one stop shop for news, current and upcoming events. Two areas of particular importance are the Upcoming Events and Training Courses sections. Through this, sailors are able to find out what is happening in their area, when it is happening and even enrol then pay online. When a person registers for a course online their details are registered straight onto Yachting Australia s database MyCentre providing them with personal accident insurance for the duration of the course they are enrolled in. By registering online we are also reducing the amount of paperwork in YQ office and streamlining the administrative procedures. We encourage all clubs to utilise this fantastic system and make better use of the online tools that Yachting Australia are developing. Sailors themselves have the ability to log on to MySailor which is basically their sailing resume. MySailor lists all of the qualifications a person has achieved, the training courses they have attended, any teams they are a member of, boats they have owned and which yacht club the person is a member of. You can even go as far as list the colour of the lifejacket you wear in case of emergency. All sailors are encouraged to become more familiar with this tool and if you are unsure of your login details, please do not hesitate to give us a call here in the office Power Sail & Paddle Power Sail & Paddle was a new event put on by Marine Queensland to showcase all of the wonderful on water activities this state has to offer. Manly Harbour was chosen as the site and essentially, PSP was a test event for the future Brisbane Boat Show. The aim was to see if the stakeholders and, more importantly, the public liked the idea of holding an outdoor boat show with an on water component. 18

19 The information received so far from both stakeholders and the public was that the event was a huge success with many people interviewed wondering why the move to Manly wasn t made years ago. With the inclusion of an on water component Marine Queensland gave us a large area to fill at the top of the public boat ramp in the northern end of Manly Boat Harbour. We utilised this space well and managed to get approximately 180 people, new to the sport of sailing, out on the water for a 20 minute experience around the harbour in picture perfect conditions. Many thanks must go to Iona College Sailing Club for providing us with 3 newly restored Vagabond dinghies, Darling Point Sailing Squadron for providing us with a full roster of Instructors and people to man the stand over the two days of the show and RQYS for providing us with an Instructor for the Saturday morning. In particular Yachting Queensland would like to thank Lyn Hanlon, for without her and all of her coordination leading up to the event, we would not have been able to provide those 180 people new to sailing with such a memorable experience. Lastly Yachting Queensland would like to thank the entire team of Marine Queensland for making this show such a success and providing us with the opportunity to get involved and spread our love of sailing to the wider boating community. Thank you Don Jones, Jason Plant, Jenny Bellaver, Nicholle Smith and Ben Leblang for making us feel so welcome. 20 2012 Brisbane Boat Show 2012 saw a colourful return from Yachting Queensland filling 300m 2 with Tackers & Discover Sailing saw us again return to the Brisbane Boat Show however the focus at our stand shifted this year to the roll out of the Tackers and Discover Sailing Programs. We once again received a growing interest in the sport from the general public which was no doubt fuelled along by the success of our Olympic gold medallists. Special thanks should go to those who kindly supplied their vessels to be used for display purposes at this show, they include: Alex Gough 470 Dinghy Max Von Richter 29er Skiff Shane Smith 18ft Skiff Ben Franklin of NB Sailsports Optimist and Laser Dinghy An extra special mention should go to the Von Richter family as during the final stages of setting up the event organisers asked if it would be possible to suspend Max s skiff from the roof as a beacon that could be seen from all corners of the Southbank Convention & 20

21 Exhibition Centre to attract people to the sailing precinct. As you can see from the photo above the 29er went up without a hitch and did its job very well with people commenting on how good it was to see sailing yet again represented at what is usually a power dominated Brisbane Boat Show. Sponsorship Without the continued support of sponsors, Yachting Queensland would find it very hard to achieve its goals and continue to grow the sport of sailing. The 2011/12 financial year was a good year for sponsorship as we are very proud to announce the signing of sailing clothing manufacturer Gill and the nationwide chandlery Bias Boating as major sponsors of Yachting Queensland. We would like to thank all of those who have contributed to sailing in Queensland over the last year, including OAMPS Insurance Brokers, Marine Queensland, Queensland Government and of course, Gill and Bias Boating. 23 YQ Foundation Yachting Queensland has registered a Development Fund with the Australian Sports Foundation. The purpose of the fund is to assist in the development of sailing in Queensland by: Increasing Participation Training and development of coaches, officials and volunteers Elite athlete development Purchasing of sailing equipment In the area of increasing participation the funding collected under the YQ Development fund can be applied to: Travel assistance for regional/remote, indigenous athletes and athletes with a disability Courses and clinics Training camps In the area of training and development of coaches, officials and volunteers the funding can be applied to courses and clinics. 26 YQ BoatSafe Licensing Josh Belsham In the past year there have been significant changes with both how BoatSafe Licensing is to be run and how Maritime Safety Queensland arbitrate the entire process. In an effort to improve boating safety MSQ have rewritten the BoatSafe Competency Standards and forced all BoatSafe Training Organisations to cease using the course structure they had been for many years and adopt a course that was developed solely by MSQ employees who have since retired. Unfortunately the course structure we were left with is not popular with all of our Training Providers however to their credit MSQ did increase the practical requirements for a person completing a BoatSafe Licence. As a result of the changes made to how the course is to be delivered, Yachting Queensland developed a new power point presentation to be used by the BoatSafe Training Providers for the delivery of Recreational Marine Drivers Licences and Personal Water Craft Licences. This represents a massive step forward for YQ as previously there was very little consistency with the way its Training Providers delivered the required content. Yachting Queensland have also been working with a consultant to develop a new database that can be used to keep track of all of the licenses issued by our providers. It has been trialled over many months and is now in use by all Yachting Queensland BTPs. We now have immediate access to the details for all licenses issued on behalf of Yachting Queensland. Josh has been consulting with Wet Paper Productions for the development of a new workbook to be used by candidates completing a licence due to MSQ ceasing production of the majority of its marine safety publications. The new workbook has since gone into production and will be ready for sale to the public in the very near future. The Marine Queensland Training & Education Division continues to forge ahead as it strives to set the industry standards and ultimately improve boating safety. As a result of Marine Queensland changing location, the MQT&E meetings are now held at Yachting Queensland on a regular basis. Yachting Queensland will continue to consolidate and streamline its BoatSafe operations in order to prepare for another major MSQ audit in

28 YQ Sub Committees Committee Chair Reports Racing Rules and Race Officials Committee Yachting Queensland Racing Rules and Race Officials has again seen the rise in national officials. Yachting Queensland currently has the following National & International qualified Race Officials: IRO - 2 IJ - Nil IU - Nil NRO - 12 NJ - 7 NU - 4 NM - 3 Total - 23 Race Officials In November we had one person apply for International Judge and another person apply for International Race Officer. This will be decided by ISAF at their annual conference in November. Two members of the committee paid their own expenses to attend an International Judges Seminar in Japan. One candidate was successful and hopes to apply to ISAF next year for International Judge. The Committee also appointed Race Officials It is hoped that the committee can expand from the committee size we have now to a bigger committee. This would allow all National and International Officials to attend and receive the regular updates. For many years of being a very small committee it is exciting to see the committee grow and members become more active. On behalf of the committee I would like to extend a sincere thanks to all officials who give up their time to assist in the racing every weekend. 29 Offshore and Safety Committee Report 2011 The Offshore and Safety Committee have conducted reviews and assessments of a number of issues and proposals in conjunction with YA during the year, in particular the continuing development of the Special Regulations. The Committee commenced looking into the Special regulation governing Stability for Cat 1 & 2 Yachts, this lead to a meeting in July 2012 where representation from a number of Clubs came together with a YA representative seeking clarification on the ruling. A further meeting is planned for September to continue the discussion. The Yacht Audit system continues with progress being made towards a national standard and the provision of training and accreditation of auditors. We should see a more clear definition for this scheme towards the end of 2012, implementation of training earlier Another goal of the committee is to establish a calendar for Offshore Events attempting to remove conflicts. My thanks go to fellow committee members for their input and counsel throughout the year. Chairman Yachting Queensland Offshore & Safety Committee Grant Somerville/Kevin Hanley Queensland Youth Committee The Queensland Youth Committee continue to meet as required and discuss issues, concepts and programs relating to Junior and Youth participation in competitive sailing. The committee is very helpful in adding input into key areas and just as important in distributing information through their networks to try and ensure the entire state is up to date with information regarding junior and youth sailing. Consistent topics at the meetings relate around the QIDP, QSDS, QHPP, State and National Regattas, calendar of training and racing events and new ideas or problems that people are experiencing in their regions. The Queensland Youth Committee reports to the National Youth Committee at their meetings to provide an update and overview of youth sailing in Queensland to Yachting Australia. 29

30 Team Sailing and Match Racing Committee The main challenge for team racing and match racing for the future will be to continue building up the numbers of local officials, particularly umpires, at all levels to support this activity. Team Sailing The QLD Schools Teams Racing Championships were held at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron from the 12 th to 13 th of April In total 12 teams competed in tough conditions over the two days with Iona College winning for the second year running. Anglican Church Grammar School finished in second with Brisbane Grammar School finishing in third. All three teams went on to compete at the Australian Schools Teams Racing Championships held in Melbourne at Albert Park Lake from the 12 th to the 15 th of July with Iona finishing up in 8 th, Brisbane Grammar in 10 th and Anglican Church Grammar in 18th. As a result of the excellent boat speed and tactical ability shown by Iona College they were invited by Yachting Australia to compete at the Interdominions which were due to be held at New Zealand in the end of September however due to low entries these championships were unfortunately cancelled for

31 Match Racing Match Racing in Queensland had been struggling in years gone by however we are currently seeing a resurgence with the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron and Mooloolaba Yacht Club both committing to buying new vessels to help grow the discipline here. This has no doubt been spurred on by the latest America s Cup as the introduction of large, fast, foiling catamarans is definitely causing some excitement in the sailing community. Noosa Yacht & Rowing Club, Southport Yacht Club and Mooloolaba Yacht Club have all been training on a regular basis with Noosa and Southport sending teams to Melbourne recently to compete at the Australian Match Racing Championships. Facing some tough competition and with one of the teams suffering an injury, Klade Hauschildt of Noosa Yacht & Rowing Club finished in 6 th, Tom Siganto of Southport Yacht Club finished in 7 th and Jessica Hansen finished in 3 rd in the Women s competition. They will all be competing again soon with the Open, Youth and Women s Queensland State Match Racing Championships due to be held on the 27 th and 28 th of October

Strategic Priorities Yachting Queensland's strategic priorities are summarised as follows: 1. Grow interest and participation in all forms of sailing and ensure that appropriate opportunities exist for growing participation as interest increases, particularly amongst the young and older-aged people. 2. Further the delivery of sailing through Yacht Clubs, providing programs and resources to support the role of the club and its members, staff and volunteers and build the capacity of Yachting Queensland to enhance the services available. 3. Maintain Queensland's position and recognition as a leading state in the sport by ensuring the all necessary resources, people and pathways are in place to support both our high performance and emerging athletes. 4. Provide leadership in the development of a shared vision and in the governance, management and representation of sailing at the state and regional level. Measuring Performance Yachting Queensland monitors the meeting of such objectives by; 1. Monitoring the success of the implementation and number of participants of the Queensland Identification and Development Program. 2. Ensure club access to National coaching and instructing schemes and increase the number of trained club members are in all regions. 3. Maintain and increase participation in the YQ QDST and ensure a pathway is established between YA QHPP 4, Maintain and grow working relationships with State Government departments, other State Sporting Organisations all in line with Nationally developed programs. Yachting Queensland Events Run by Host Clubs Yachting Queensland, in partnership with Queensland Department of Sport and Recreation, receives funding to assist and develop the sport of yachting throughout Queensland. Part of this program is to establish regional events that will increase participation, provide assistance to grow at all levels, increase skills and encourage the sport. Yachting Queensland,has developed state level competitions to be conducted by regional clubs (host clubs) using Yachting Queensland guidance and conditions. Clubs collect the nomination fees for these events to defray overheads and operational expenses. To increase participation of junior/youths Yachting Queensland has developed the Queensland Identification and Development Program (QIDP) to assist introduction to the sport and identify and train sailors at all levels. 2
