2 Sailing Instructions Friday 9 March 2018 Beaupre to Kettering Conducted by the Port Cygnet Sailing Club Friday 9 March 2018 Hobart to Kettering Conducted by the Port Cygnet Sailing Club in conjunction with the Derwent Sailing Squadron Saturday 10 March 2018 Kettering to Cygnet Conducted by the Port Cygnet Sailing Club in conjunction with the Kettering Yacht Club Sunday 11 March 2018 Port Cygnet Race Conducted by the Port Cygnet Sailing Club 1/ RULES The above races will be governed by the Australian Sailing (AS) rules and prescriptions and Safety Regulations, the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) and these Sailing Instructions. 2/ Responsibilities All those taking part in these races do so at their own risk and responsibility. i) The Port Cygnet Sailing Club, and/or the Derwent Sailing Squadron, and/or the Kettering Yacht Club are not responsible for the seaworthiness of a yacht whose entry is accepted or the sufficiency or adequacy of its equipment. ii) The Port Cygnet Sailing Club, and/or the Derwent Sailing Squadron, and/or the Kettering Yacht Club are not responsible for any damage or injury, either on shore or at sea, either to persons or yachts, which might result from competing in these races. 3/Eligibility All yachts entering all or any of the races must satisfy the Safety regulations set out in Section 5 of these Sailing Instructions. The Race Committee reserves the right to reject any entry at any time up to 30 minutes before the start of a race without stating a reason (Refer Sailing Instructions Section 5). 4/ Entries Entries shall be on the prescribed forms available from the Port Cygnet Sailing Club, Derwent Sailing Squadron, Kettering Yacht Club and Oyster Bay Chandlery or online via a link at Cygnet Sailing Club/Regatta.html Entries for all races must be lodged by 1600 hours, Wednesday 7 March 2018, accompanied with the appropriate entry fees. Late entries will NOT be accepted. 2

3 5/ Safety Regulations and Inspections Race 1 Friday 9 March 2018 Beaupre to Kettering. Yachts shall comply with the Safety Regulations of the AS.RRS Special Regulations, Section 2, Category 7 Race 2 Friday 9 March 2018 Hobart to Kettering. Yachts shall comply with the Safety Regulations of the AS.RRS Special Regulations, Section 2, Category 5 (night) Race 3 Saturday 10 March 2018 Kettering to Cygnet. Yachts shall comply with the Safety Regulations of the AS.RRS Special Regulations, Section2, Category 7 Race 4 Sunday 11 March 2018 Cygnet Regatta. Yachts shall comply with the Safety Regulations of the AS.RRS Special Regulations, Section2, Category 7 * Yachts may be inspected at any time in accordance with Section of the AS.RRS Special Regulations. The race Committee may postpone or cancel the races if the weather conditions are unsuitable for racing. 6/ Protests: Protest Fee $50 Protests shall be written on forms available and lodged with the relevant club within one hour of the last yacht to finish. All parties to the hearing will be notified of the time and place of the hearing no later Monday 12 March / Notices to Competitors: Notices to competitors will be posted on the Official Notice Board at the appropriate Club up to at least 1 hour before the change is to take effect for the race concerned. 8/ Changes To These Sailing Instructions: Any changes to these Sailing Instructions will be by written notice on any of the club notice boards at least 1 hour before the change is to take effect for the race concerned. 3

4 PORT CYGNET SAILING CLUB Race: Beaupre To Kettering Friday 9 March 2018 Course From the starting line adjacent to Beaupre Point to the finishing line at Kettering. Starting Line An imaginary line between Beaupre Point and the Start Boat. Competitors should listen on VHF 73 and observe signals from the Start Boat. Starting Signals Warning Signal: 1055 hours A sound signal will be made Preparatory Signal: 1056 hours A sound signal will be made One Minute Signal: 1059 hours A sound signal will be made Starting Signal: 1100 hours A sound signal will be made Time Limit Boats not finishing by 1800 hours will be deemed to have retired. Finishing Line An imaginary line from the Finishing Boat and headland south of the Ferry Terminal at Kettering and north of Trial Bay. Retirements A yacht retiring for any reason must report the circumstances as a matter of urgency to the Start Boat on VHF 73. Listening Watch During the race all competitors will keep a continuous listening watch on VHF Channel 16/73. Safety Regulations Yachts competing in the Cygnet to Kettering Race must comply with the Safety Regulations of the AS.RRS Special Regulations, Section2, Category 7. The attention of all persons taking part in the Race is drawn to the requirement to be aware of the application of all Marine Safety (Misuse of Alcohol) Act Responsibility all those taking part in this race do so at their own risk and responsibility. (i) The Port Cygnet Sailing Club, and/or the Derwent Sailing Squadron, and/ or Kettering Yacht Club are not responsible for the seaworthiness of a Yacht whose entry is accepted or the sufficiency or adequacy of its equipment. 5 PORT CYGNET SAILING CLUB Race: Hobart to Kettering Friday 9 March 2018 The race will commence from the Castray Start Box at 1800 hours. Course From the starting line to the finish line at Kettering. Starting Line An imaginary line between the flag on the Castray start box to a point 200 metres towards the Bellerive Bluff. Starting Signals Warning Signal: Preparatory Signal: One Minute Signal: Starting Signal: Five minutes before the start, a sound signal will be made. Four minutes before the start, a sound signal will be made. One long sound signal will be made. A sound signal will be made. Time limit Boats not finishing by 0000 hours (Midnight) will be deemed to have retired. Finishing Line An imaginary perpendicular line to the seaward end of the Marina near the Ferry Terminal (ie. Across Little Oyster Cove, not the Channel). Finishing Times The finishing line may be manned but all competitors should record their own finishing times. Retirements A yacht retiring for any reason must report the circumstances as a matter of urgency to Race Control on VHF 73. Listening Watch During the race all competitors will keep a continuous listening watch on VHF Channel16/73. 6 PORT CYGNET SAILING CLUB Race: Kettering to Port Cygnet Saturday 10 March 2018 Course From the starting line to the finish line at Port Cygnet, as per the Port Cygnet Race. Starting Line Will be situated off Kettering and will be between a start boat and a marker buoy. Starting Signals Warning signal: 1155 hours Sound signal & Class Flag Preparatory Signals: 1156 hours Sound signal & Prep Flag One Minute: 1159 hours Sound signal & Prep Flag removed Starting Signal: 1200 hours Sound signal & Class Flag removed *Note: If wind conditions are light the Starting Line will be laid further down the Channel. Competitors should listen on VHF 73 and observe signals from start boat. Finishing Line (see Port Cygnet Race) Time Limit Boats not finishing by 2000 hours will be deemed to have retired. 7 Course Refer attached course map PORT CYGNET SAILING CLUB Race: Port Cygnet Race Sunday 11 March 2018 Starting Line All races start and finish between an imaginary line drawn between the flagpole on the start/finish box and the buoy marked S on the course diagram, or otherwise notified. Two Divisions The race will have 2 start times, Division One at 1.00pm & Division Two at 1.30pm. Allocation of Divisions will be determined by the Race Handicapper and will be advised no later than the pre race briefing. Starting Signals 5 minute signal (warning) Audible siren 3 lights illuminated 4 minute signal (preparatory) Audible siren 2 lights illuminated 1 minute signal (prep removed) Audible siren 1 light illuminated Start Signal Audible Siren ALL lights extinguished Recalls If a yacht/s crosses the start line prematurely, one audible signal will be made. It is the responsibility of a premature starter to return outside mark S and start correctly, as per the RRS. Alternatively a 20% Points Penalty will apply. If the Starter is unable to identify any yacht/s that started prematurely, the Starter may order a general recall by making two sound signals. The race will then be started again ten minutes later than the advertised starting time. The Race Starter may notify any offending boats by VHF radio. Time Limits Boats not finishing by 1700 hours will be deemed to have retired. Finishing Line As per starting line. Retirements A yacht retiring for any reason must report the circumstances as a matter of urgency to the Start Boat on VHF 73. Listening Watch During the race all competitors will keep a continuous listening watch on VHF Channel 16/73.
