2 Our Program Page 2 Our Mission The mission of the Reyburn Sailing School is to support a Learn-to-Sail and Learn-to-Race program that teaches students the basics of boat handling, seamanship, safety, sportsmanship, and building friendships. The program strives to develop competence and confidence in our sailors in a safe and fun learning environment. Who Can Take Our Classes? The program is open to EYC members and nonmembers children ages Our Adult program is open to adults 18 and up. Registration is limited, and is on a first come basis. Priority will be given to EYC members and nonmembers that have been in our program in a previous session/year. Our Boats Optimist Dinghy Designed for sailors weighing lbs., the Optimist Dinghy has become the world standard for introductory junior trainers. Our Opti class is designed for our youngest students ages We have 10 club owned boats and will take students with privately owned boats. Class size limited to 14 CFJ/420 These popular junior trainers are agile performers. These boats are great training boats especially in restricted sailing areas. Comfortable buoyancy tanks ensure that the CFJ and 420 are both self rescuing and safe. Our CFJ/420 classes is designed for students ages Students will sail in groups of 2-3 per boat. Class size limited to 36. Fridays 21 Our Instructors All our instructors are US SAILING Level 1, CPR, and First Aid certified. All come highly recommended with a great track record for hands-on instruction. What to pack/wear for your lessons: A warm jacket A change of clothes Snacks Swimsuit Hat Shorts and T-shirt A towel Water bottle Rain Gear Sailing gloves Sunscreen Sunglasses with strap - Recommend polarized lenses US Coast Guard Type III Personal Flotation Device (* Required) Closed toed shoes (i.e. sneakers) or strap on TEVAS. Absolutely no flip flops. Refund Policy Note Refund Policy: We offer 100% refund before classes begin. NO refunds after the classes start.

3 Course Descriptions Page 3 Junior Sailing Optis Seaman (Beginner, ages 6-7, Student must be 6 by May 1st) This 6-week Evening Class that is geared for our littlest sailors with an emphasis placed on safety, learning, and fun! Students are introduced to water safety, boat controls (main sheet and tiller), basic sailing maneuvers (tacking and jibing), and wind, through classroom and onthe-water activities. Our goal is to create a positive learning environment so our little ones are excited to sail. Class size limited to 14. Note: Parents are encouraged to volunteer 2 evenings during the program to assist instructors. Mate (Beginner and Intermediate, ages 8-10, Student must be 8 by May 1st) This 8-week class is for our younger sailors who want to participate in our traditional all day program. Students sail independently in our Optimist dinghies under the close supervision of instructors and participate daily in classroom lessons and land-based activities. The curriculum emphasizes terminology, basic seamanship (knot tying, rigging), basic boat handling (steering, sail trim, capsize recovery) and course sailing. Class size limited to 14. Junior Opti Race Team, ages 10-13, This 8 week program is an introduction into the fun of junior racing. The program offers students the opportunity to learn and develop their racing skills at the junior level. All of our Opti racers will expand their skills through daily lessons and reviews of on-the-water drills. Our coaches will prepare them for weekend regattas at ILYA sponsored events. Each student participating in this program will have the opportunity to represent the Erie Yacht Club at these events. Parental chaperones and additional expenses for travel to regattas may apply. The Opti Race Team will not compete at Bay Week. Class size limited to 8. CFJ/420 8 Week Learn-to-Sail (Beginner and Intermediate, ages 10-16, Student must be 10 by May 1st) This 8-week class introduces sailors to the basics of sailing. The curriculum emphasizes terminology, wind and water theory, water safety, boat controls, sailing maneuvers, upwind and downwind sailing, and right-of-way rules through on land and on-the-water activities. As students progress curriculum emphasizes terminology, basic seamanship skills (knot tying, rigging), basic boat handling (steering, sail trim, capsize recovery), basic course sailing, introduction to the spinnaker, and beginner racing. Class size limited to 36, Friday class 21. Junior Racing (Advanced, Minimum Skipper Rating ages 13-18) This 9-week program offers a positive team setting where young sailors can learn and apply advanced racing skills in the 420 and Laser fleets. Junior racers begin their day with a general meeting and review of the previous practice. On-land, sailors participate in lectures and land drills emphasizing a key skill each day. On-the-water, coaches direct the team through a series of practice drills and mini races. A debrief session concludes the practice. Our junior racers train for a summer-long schedule of competitions, which include regattas (multi-race events) and clinics. Each student has the opportunity to represent the Erie Yacht Club at these events. Parental chaperones and additional expenses for travel to regattas may apply. (No classes week of July 21st for Bay Week). Class size limited to 17. Adult Sailing Learn-to-Sail Choose a full 8-week course or your choice of (2) 4 Week Classes. We focus on the theory of sailing, terminology, rigging and de-rigging, equipment stowage and care, personal safety, knots, safety on the dock and on the water, points of sail, small boat handling, right-of-way rules, capsize and man overboard procedures, and much more. Classes are taught in the CFJ and 420 and limited to 2 students per boat. Tuition fees include US SAILING textbook. Mon/Wed Two 4 Week Sessions Cost $175 Member / $220 Non-Member Evening 6PM - sundown June 16 - July 9 or July 14 - August 6, Class size limited to 30 Adults.
