2 Welcome to the 2015 Off beach sailing season. The new program is a development of the previous years program. We are looking forward to a great season ahead and real growth in fleet numbers. Congratulations to all our sailors who represented the Whitsunday sailing Club at National Titles over Summer. Most importantly 2015 has never been a better time to start sailing for those of us lucky enough to live in the whitsundays. We have developed a unique program which suits our tropical lifestyle. Those new to sailing will start in Green Fleet B on Sunday mornings. There is then a direct progression to fun racing in Green fleet A. We are catering to adults in the 2015 season, so now everybody aged 9 and up can start sailing at the WSC. Our Wednesday session continue to run all year and Sunday racing will kick off on 1st March. The program is run entirely by volunteers which allows us to offer sailing programs at a reasonable price. We are seeking assistance for the 2015 season. Race management will ensure all boats return safely to the beach. However parents are responsible for children on the beach, including rigging washing and packing away boats.

5 Off beach Racing Sundays -Coached Racing All off beach classes Junior and Senior combine for a great afternoon of racing. There is a breifing at 11:30 am where race tactics are discussed. We then put what we have learnt into practice. Racing starts at 12:00pm and runs until 1:30pm. There is a coach boat out on the water, after the race there is a debrief. Typically a youth class, however they are also suited to couples and lighter adults 420: The 420 is an ideal boat for 2 youth sailors.sailors will gain experience using trapeze and spinnaker. When the wind gets up the boats are unstoppable Arrow: Like all light-weight catamarans, the Arrow and Arafura Cadet are fast and exciting sail-boats in a good breeze. In its 4.3m division, the Arrow is one of the fastest, Taser: A strong class in North Queensland. Often sailed by Couples. The Taser is fast and efficient, providing an exciting experience without the need for a spinnaker Mg 14: An ideal budget entry into skiff racing. These are Turbocharged versions of the NS14. They can be single or double handed. Laser :An Olympic class. 3 different sail sizes meaning the boat can be sailed by weights of 40Kg to 100kg. They are very simple and durable. Currently there are 12 boats at the WSC Optimist: A great first racer typically sailed from ages 9-14 they are simple, durable and very popular. Over 300 boats attend national titles Opti Tacker: A beginners version of the optmist. The are plastic construction and are a very simple and fun entry to sailing F!8 :A very strong class in North Queensland. Sailed by 2 adults. Very fast and exciting the F18 class allows boats from various manufacturers to complete under the same rule.

11 2014 OFF BEACH SAILING INSTRUCTIONS OFF BEACH SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 1: RULES All Races will be governed by the current versions of: The rules as defined in the I.S.A.F. Racing Rules of Sailing RRS -( ) The Prescriptions of special regulations of Yachting Australia ( up to and including 30/6/13 and thence ) 1.3 These sailing instructions are the notice of race and sailing instructions required by rule 89.2 and Competitors are reminded of the provisions of fundamental rule 4 DECISION TO RACE which states The responsibility for a boats decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone. 2: NOTICES TO COMPETITORS Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located in the Clubhouse. Or sent via Text Message 3: CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Any changes to the sailing instructions will be posted not less than two hours before taking effect, except that any change in the schedule of races will be posted by 1900 hours on the day before it will take effect Separate sailing instructions for special events may be issued in accordance with rule Verbal Changes to Sailing Instructions may be made on the water with code flag L on display. 4: SIGNALS MADE ASHORE Signals made ashore will be displayed on the lower area of the Sailing Club. Repeats of these signals may be displayed on the race committee boat. 5: ENTRIES 5.1 Entries may be accepted from eligible boats until one hour preceding a race. Entry shall be by lodgment of a completed entry form and payment for the event. Entry forms are available at the club. 5.2 To be eligible to enter a race a boat shall lodge or have held on file at WSC the following documentation: 1. (a) An audited compliance form Special Regulations Part 2 Off the Beach Boats; and 2. (b) Copy of current insurance policy endorsed for racing and having a minimum Public Liability cover of $10 million; and

12 (c) For any crew under the age of 18 years written permission from their parent or guardian; 5.3 A yacht failing to comply with this SI 5.1 or 5.2 may be scored DNC without a hearing. Amends appendix A Notwithstanding the provisions of 5.2 of these Sailing Instructions, a visiting boat or new boat to the fleet may enter in up to 3 races before she must comply with : DIVISIONS There may be three divisions (Green Fleet A, Junior Classes, Senior Classes) dependent upon the number of entries 7: RACING AREA Racing will be conducted within Pioneer Bay. 8: COURSES Will be described on Whiteboard in downstairs training room. Courses are at the discretion of the race officer on the day 9: MARKS The start, finish and windward marks will be orange or yellow inflatable bouys. An inner limit mark, being a yellow pencil bouy may be laid in the vicinity of the committee vessel. The inner limit mark shall be left to starboard. 10: THE START The start sequence for all races will be a rolling start with Division 1 first and will be conducted in accordance with RRS 26. Subsequent Divisions warning signal will be the start signal of the preceding Division. In the event of a general recall, the recalled division will be re-started after the last division start. The Start line will be an imaginary line between the Flag mast on the committee vessel displaying a club burgee and a buoy set at approximately 90 degrees to the direction of the first mark. The direction of rounding the windward mark will be indicated by a Green flag for starboard or a Red flag for Port rounding s displayed on the committee vessel prior to and during the starting sequence. The committee vessel will be located at the starboard end of the start line. 11: THE FINISH The finish line will be an imaginary line between the Flag mast on the committee vessel and the adjacent Orange or Yellow inflatable buoy. The committee vessel will also fly a blue On station flag, and will be on the right hand side of the line. must start a minimum of (5) races, defined in the calendar as Club Championship races.

13 13: SCORING The Low Point Scoring System, appendix A4 of the RRS will apply. 14: PROTESTS Any protests must be submitted to the race officer and received no later than 1 hours after the last boat in the protesting division finishes. 15: LIABILITY Competitors participate in a race entirely at their own risk and are responsible for the seaworthiness of a boat whose entry is accepted and for the sufficiency and adequacy of its equipment. Neither the Whitsunday Sailing Club Ltd, their servants nor volunteers shall accept liability or responsibility whatsoever for death or any personal or material damage sustained by participants before, during or after a race, see RRS 4, Decision to race. 16: INCIDENT REPORTS A skipper involved in an incident involving significant injury or collision is required to lodge an incident report with Maritime Safety Queensland 17: RETIREMENTS Any boat retiring from a race shall use all available means to promptly advise WSC race committee of such retirement. 18: SIGN ON / OFF Competitors shall fill in details required on the Sign On / Off sheets before and after sailing. Failure to comply may lead to disqualification. 19: NOTES The notes provided in each of the course descriptions published in attachment A are deemed to be included and part of these sailing instructions.
