The new members should come because it s a good way to meet other members. I always have a good time at the club. The work parties have just about ended for the summer so if you didn t get your hours in you can still cook for the meetings. Just call Emilio or Greg to schedule a date. I want to remind people about the power on the floats. I see some extension cords plugged into the power stations. The outlets for these types of cords are for the convenience of using power tools when you are at the float. If you are using it to run a battery charger when you are not at the dock you need to buy a thirty amp three pronged adapter for the power station. This causes electrolysis which eats zincs, props, shafts and other parts of the boats around yours. We will be unplugging the extension cords when we see them so do yourself a favor and buy the adaptor. We are starting to see an increase in the amount of people gathering in the parking lot and want the members to call the police(911) and report the gathering at McConnell Park rather than the yacht club. They will come and disperse the crowd. I hope everyone has a trouble-free summer and enjoys the club. So as always, please be careful coming and going from the club.

2 page 2 Dorchester Yacht Club - Board of Directors Monthly Meeting June 5, 2013 Officers present: Paul Polito, Greg Bedrosian, Steve Cavanaugh Directors present: Bob Mirabito, Jack Donegan, Ray Tomasini, Packy McDonough Chairmen present: Al Chouinard, David Greenwood, Emilio Cappucio, Bob Bailey absent: Marty Cahill, Bill Rizzi, Meeting called to order at 6:20 pm. Applications for membership were received from: Chris Erler and Jonathan Morey Treasurer s Report: Marty was not present, so there was no report. Correspondence: Nothing. House: Work parties have stopped as of last weekend. We have a new ice machine. Inboard Float/ Mooring Master: Al will put in another 3 moorings. We have permission for 6 and the previous harbormaster had told Al if we needed more, to come to him for 6 more. Al expects we ll be full in the marina by July 4th. Anyone using extension cords for their boats will have them disconnected. You must use the 30-amp adapters for shore power on the inboard floats. Outboard Float: No report. Regatta: Greg has hired a band MoonStruck for Opening Day. We have a new member whose band has been using the hall for practice; they ll be asked to set up and play on the deck a couple of Fridays during the summer. Steve suggested we send a free pass for entry to the Opening Day to those who expressed interest in the club at the NE Boat Show. Greg said we need a new gas grill. The Board approved. Permitting: No report. Safety: No report. MBYCA: No report. Unfinished Business: No unfinished businss. New Business: David brought up an issue concerning the safety watches. One member has been calling people right after the start time for watches if a member isn t there and offering to do the watch for them. It was emphasized that it is up to members to make arrangements to have someone cover their watch if they cannot make a particular night. Al and Packy suggested that each member be limited to doing a certain number of watches per year, which would limit anyone using the watches as an income source. That will be considered at another time. Motion made by Jack and seconded by Packy that no member be allowed to advertise services to do watches for other members, and may not solicit by or phone other members to do their watches. Greg brought up that a member and his family were temporarily prevented from leaving the club near Mc- Connell Park and had to call the police. We will let people know the proper procedure via the newsletter and signs in the clubhouse. The meeting was adjourned at 7:14 p.m. General Membership Meeting of the Dorchester Yacht Club Thursday, June 13, 2013 Officers present: Paul Polito, Greg Bedrosian, Bill Rizzi, Marty Cahill, Steve Cavanaugh Directors present: Jack Donegan, Patrick Mc- Dononough, Ray Tomasini Chairmen present: Emilio Cappuccio, Dave Greenwood, Bob Bailey, Al Chouinard Absent: Bob Mirabito Paul Polito called the meeting to order at: 7:35 p.m. We welcomed 1 new member: Jonathan Morey Captain Tim Peters from Boat US / Tow Boat US, based at Marina Bay, addressed the membership. They have all the tow boats from here to the Merrimack River and the New Hampshire. $ membership gets unlimited towing of any distance. There s another Tow Boat US. They will tow from your home dock to a haul out. There s additional trailer coverage as well. The club already has a Boat US group member number, which cuts the BoatUS membership fee in half; the towing is additional and there is no discount on that. This will even cover a diver should your prop get fouled with line. How many boats are available? someone asked. Peters responded that there are 3 boats out of Marina Bay, 1 on a trailer, 4 in the Merrimack River area, 1 in Beverly. They can also do salvage in up to 200 feet of water. Peters left business cards and applications. Minutes: There were no questions, and the minutes were accepted as read. Treasurer s Report: Marty gave out a treasurer s report, with deposits of $26,469 and expenses of $22,378.

3 page 3 Ending Balances: Dredging: $102, Money Market (capital improvements): $52, Checking: $125, Correspondence: A letter was received from ASCAP for a music license. Marty has a letter saying that Graves Light is for sale by the Federal Government. A letter was received from Scott Baldwin, a professional illustrator who will, given a few photos, design cards, stationery, etc. with your boat s image on them. House Committee: No report. Everything s wonderful. No work parties for the season. We may start up in October. With the new ice machine we are selling 5# bags for $2, 30# bags for $12 and blocks for $5. Inboard Float Committee: Al will have a work party this Saturday and we will put in 3 moorings this Saturday. He would like 4 to 7 people to help with this. Mooring Master: Aquamarine has put our mooring back in the water at Perry Cove off Peddocks Island. Outboard Float Committee: Things are pretty good, but there are many people who are bringing boats in but the marina is filling up. Bob really needs to have a 3- day notice so he can move boats around. Bob thinks it could even happen that people may have to go on moorings. Regatta Committee: Opening Day will start with Blessing of the Fleet at noon, followed by the festivities and activities for the kids. Dinner will be around 5-6 pm. We will have a dunk tank. The Tiki Bar will be open with a bartender. Permitting: We are all set with permits. Safety Officer: There were 3 alerts from the Coast Guards. One was about the counterfeit fire extinuishers we ve previously written about in The Lighthouse. Another was about navigation lights that don t meet regulations and don t work well. The third was about life jackets. Some of the ones that come in a pack have the belts so tight that they cannot be readily be put on and snapped. So if you buy new life jackets, be sure to take them out of the packs, loosen the straps and wrap the straps around the life jacket so that the straps are ready to be used. It s too late to worry about this if you re in an emergency situation. With July 4th coming, Walter reminded members to check online for notices to mariners so you can find out about sunken boats, alerts, restricted areas, etc. MBYCA Report: Walter Pozark sent a report by , read by the secretary. The last MBYCA meeting was held at Mystic Wellington Medfield spoke about temperature of water, and noted that wearing a PFD could save your life should you go overboard. Mass Boating is awarding two five-hundred dollar scholarships. Coast Guard Funds were decreased by 25%. The Coast Guard monitors Marine Radio channel 16; if you need to do a radio Check, use Channel 9. Register your radio with a MSI number, the Coast Guard will be able to find you in a Emergency quickly. Next meeting at Port Norfolk in Dorchester June 21. Will pick up Mass Boating Books. Walter Belushko noted that you can do a radio check on channel 27, which will echo back what you said in your own voice, so you can hear that you are transmitting and the strength of that transmission. Unfinished Business: Kathy Tyrell reported we are still number 1 on the waiting list for the moorings at Worlds End, but the Harbormaster doubts we will get a mooring this year. New Business: Jack Donegan reported that the Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester asked us to take out the kids like we did last year. They sent a list of suggested dates, and Jack suggested that we schedule it for July 24th, and if it is a rained out, we can use one of the later dates as a rain date. Last year we had about 15 boats join in the regatta and it was a very good time for all concerned. The inboard and outboard float committee chairmen will have extra forms, and it is also available on the DYC web site. These forms should be filled out and returned to the club by the April Float Give-Away. If you have a permanent assignment, but do not own a boat, please fill out the form and write No Boat on it. These forms are used by the Float Committees to update records, by the Treasurer for billing, and the Secretary to keep addresses current for mailing. However, the most important reason is so that YOU, THE BOAT OWNER CAN BE NOTIFIED IF THERE SHOULD BE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR BOAT.

Last year the DYC took some of the kids from the Paul McLaughlin Boys and Girls Club out for a boat ride followed by a cook out at the Club. It was a great time, and we would like to do this again. We are looking for about 15 vessels on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, from approximately 9:30 am to 12:30 pm to take from 3 to 6 children along with one or two chaperones out to the harbor and back. We will also be looking for several volunteers to help set up a picnic lunch from noon until 2. Any volunteers can sign up by contacting the secretary. More information will be available soon.
