4 USCG Official Number Valhanna is a USCG Documented vessel. The Official Number is The official number is permanently affixed to the hull in the port lazarette. Thru Hulls Speed and depth instrument thru hulls are located under the v berth. Access is gained by removing the bottom drawer on the face of the v berth There are six thru hulls with sea cocks o One under galley sink (accessed via long slender hatch in right side of cabinet. Sink drain and Ice Box drain o Two in the head (cabinet to the right of the sink) Head sink drain also drains the shower sump. Head Intake o One under port side settee. Overboard/macerator pump out o One in aft stateroom (access under mattress on forward portion of berth) Engine raw water intake (LEAVE OPEN) Shower Drain Operation To drain the shower: 1. Open the head sink drain thru hull located in the head to the right of the sink. 2. Turn on the Shower Drain Pump switch at the DC panel over the navigation station. 3. Press the Shower Sump button located over the head to active the pump. Press a second time to turn off. Head(s) Valhanna has one standard manual operation marine head, located forward to port. The head intake is located in the cabinet to the right of the head sink. The sink faucet removes from its base, and doubles as a shower head (see above for shower drain operation.) It is recommended that the shower faucet be used as the water supply while flushing the head. The holding tank is pumped out via a deck fitting located amidships to port.

5 Fresh Water System Engine Fuel Tanks and locations There are three fresh water tanks. Deck fills are located: o On the box, next to the anchor locker hatch. o Starboard side just forward of the stern cleat. o Port side, just forward of the stern cleat. WARNING: The fuel fill is located next to the water fill. The manifold (three valves) to switch between tanks is located under the saloon table settee. Engine access is obtained by removing the steps and the engine cover. The dipstick is located behind the air intake on the starboard side of the motor (to the left as you face the motor). The bottom of the dip stick can be seen by looking under the air intake filter. The coolant reservoir on Valhanna is located in the port lazarette. Coolant level is checked by viewing the reservoir, and by removing the pressure cap on the motor s port side (the right as you face the motor). Tanks and locations Diesel fuel deck fitting is located to port, near the transom, just forward of the stern cleat. Care must be taken as the deck fill for one of the water tanks is located next to the fuel fill cap. The fuel tank gauge is located on the panel on the aft side of the binnacle. The Engine DC switch must be on, and the key turned to the run position.

6 Stove The propane tank is in a coaming locker on the starboard side, near the transom. The LPG SOLENOID switch is located on the right side of the DC electrical panel above the navigation station. A red light to the right of the switch signals that the electrical safety valve is open. To light the stove top burners, turn the propane on and activate the LPG solenoid. Push the burner knob in and turn to the IGN position. While holding the knob in, press the igniter button on the left side of the stove face plate until the burner lights. Hold the knob in for 10 to 15 seconds after lighting to allow the thermocouple to heat up. To light the oven. Light the right front burner. Allow it to burn 1 minute to purge the system of air. Turn the oven thermostat knob to the Pilot position. Hold in the red oven safety button (right side of stove face plate). Hold a match or lighter to the pilot light on the right side of oven, under the floor plate. Once the pilot is lit, continue holding the safety button in while the thermocouple heats up. Once the pilot will stay lit, turn the oven thermostat to the desired heat setting. Microwave Refrigeration Valhanna is equipped with a microwave for use while connected to shore power. The galley, including one refrigerator/ice box is to port just forward of the aft cabin bulkhead. There is a dry storage locker forward of the stove DO NOT use as an ice box as there is no drain. The refrigerator is turned on via a switch on the DC panel. Barbeque The BBQ is stored in the port transom lazarette.

7 Electrical System AC DC A 30 amp AC plug enters the boat at the transom The Main AC breaker is located in the starboard transom lazarette The AC panel is located above the navigation station, on the left side of the electrical panel Green dots are found on the follow switches, which MUST be left in the on position when the boat is secured. o AC ON (a green light to the right indicates AC power is on) o OUTLETS There are three batteries, divided into two banks, on the boat. o The house and normal starting batteries are located under the seat, aft of the starboard saloon table. There are two batteries, and together, are Bank 2. o There is an emergency starting battery located under the seat, forward of the starboard saloon table. This battery is Bank 1. The battery selector/on/off switches are found on the side of the forward seat for the starboard saloon table. o The left switch (as you face the switches) selects the bank o The right switch directs power to the starter. The Main DC breaker is a red knob located between the two selector knobs (upper of two knobs.) This switch must be in the on position for the DC system to work. Important Charging Note Bank 1 will only charge under the following conditions: Battery selector switch in on 1, and the engine is running Or Battery selector switch in on ALL with the engine running or shore power connected Or Battery selector switch in on ALL with shore power connected Bank 1 WILL NOT charge with the selector switch in either OFF or 2. Bank 1 WILL NOT charge on shore power with the selector switch set to 1.

8 Anchor and Ground Tackle Primary and Secondary Anchors The primary anchor, with an all chain rode, is located in the anchor locker at the bow. The windlass breaker is located between the two battery selector switches (bottom of two breakers) on the side of the seat under the starboard saloon table. The secondary anchor is stowed in the port lazarette. Kellet/Sentinel There is no kellet on Valhanna due to the all chain rode. Windlass use The anchor is deployed manually, with the assist of the windlass. Speed of deployment is controlled by using a winch handle as a break bar. The best winch handle to use is one without a lock, however, any winch handle will work. A foot operated electrical switch is used to retrieve the anchor. The secondary anchor is deployed and retrieved manually. Running Rigging The running rigging is routed through two clutch assemblies located under the dodger on the cabin top. One to each side of the companionway. Lines found in these clutches are: Port clutch package (left to right) o Spinnaker Halyard o Empty clutch o First reef Starboard clutch package (left to right) o Boom Vang o Second reef o Main Halyard The main sail has two sheets, one located on each side of the companionway. Valhanna is fitted with a flaked main with a sail cover. The main halyard runs through the far right clutch on the starboard side of the companionway. There are two reefs, both of which can be set from the cockpit. o The line for the first reef is the right most clutch on the port side of the companionway. o The line for the second reef runs through the middle clutch on the starboard side of the companionway. Valhanna has a roller furled jib.

9 Engine Start Up and Shut Down Start Up The ignition key is located on the starboard side of the binnacle. Valhanna requires the motor to preheat using a glow plug prior to starting. To activate the glow plugs, turn the ignition key clockwise past the spring as far as it will go. Hold the key in the pre heat position for 30 full seconds prior to starting. Shut Down The fuel shut off is the red handle on the starboard side of the binnacle. Fuel Gauge and Engine Hours Both are located on the aft side of the binnacle control panel. The engine hour gauge is located in the tachometer.
