Registration is now open and students are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Course Dates: Intermediate Opti, Intro 420/Blue Jay & Advanced 420: Monday, Jun 25 through Thursday, August 09, for 7 weeks. Beginner Opti: Three-week session: Monday, July 02 through Wednesday, July 18: Six-week session Tuesday, July 02 through Wednesday August 09. Intro to Sailing Camp will be June 25-June 29 either morning or afternoon session. *No Class July 4th, Beginner Program will meet Thursday July 5 to make up missed day. Kick-Off BBQ & Orientation: Starting the summer off right in a welcoming and informative manner is important to us here at MBC. We will be hosting a party for all Jr. Sailing Program members and their families on Friday, June 22 nd at 6:00pm at MBC. During the party we will go over the basics of the program, any requirements, but more importantly give you the opportunity to meet the instructors, socialize and eat some great food! Mandatory Swim Test will be held Friday, June 22 nd, from 10:00 12:00 & 1:00 3:00. All sailors must pass the swim test in order to participate in the program. Basically, the kids jump into the river from the center dock, swim to the west dock and back without a PFD. Then, they tread water for a minute. An instructor will throw a life jacket to the swimmer who will have to put it on while in the water. Jellyfish are often present. Haul-Out Dinner: As is our tradition at MBC, at the end of the program, we host our annual Haul-Out Dinner. This is a wonderful way to conclude the summer program and celebrate each child s achievements. It gives us the opportunity to share with you via pictures, videos and awards your child s love of sailing. The Haul-Out Dinner will be Friday, August 10 th at 6:00PM. Junior Sweeps Regatta is scheduled for August 6- August 9. There will be no instruction that week. Participation in the regatta is highly encouraged, but not required. Regatta will be hosted by SSYC August 6-7 & MBC August 8-9, no class on Friday August 10.

2 ADDITIONAL PROGRAM INFORMATION: What Students Should Wear: Each student should come dressed and prepared for a warm summer day, assuming they will get wet. Each student must bring, to every class: USCG approved Type II or Type III Lifejacket w/ Whistle Attached (Sized for your child) Boat Shoes, Water Shoes, or Sneakers Required (No sandals, Teva s, flip-flops, or other open toed shoes that may fall off or risk foot injury.) Water Bottle (Please try and purchase a reusable bottle to cut down on trash, there is a water fountain at the club to refill bottles.) Additional Recommended Items: Sunblock Towel Hat with visor Sunglasses Jacket for cool days (It sometimes can be cooler on the water than at your house.) Arrival & Departure Times: Please be courteous to other students and instructors by arriving on time We understand that sometimes due to unforeseen circumstances you may be running late, if so please kindly reach out to the Head Instructor to let them know. In addition, please contact your child s instructor directly if your child will not be attending class or is leaving early. Lunch Times: For sailors who stay through lunchtime, please understand that lunch is not supervised. Wacky Wednesdays: Every Wednesday students will have the opportunity to dress up and participate in activities related to the Wacky Wednesday theme. Some of our favorites include Crazy Hat Day, Pirate Day, Patriotic Day, Christmas in July, Fabulous 50 s, and Crazy Hair Day Weather Challenged Days: Understanding that we unfortunately can t control the weather. We have a list of activities that the students can enjoy when waiting for the wind / weather to comply. Some of the favorites are Scavenger Hunts, Crabbing, Boat Building, Karaoke, Knot Tying, Designing T Shirt, Arts & Crafts, Games, Movies, and Capsizing Drills Page 2 of 9

8 Page 8 of 9 Code of Conduct for Junior Sailors 2018 Junior Fleet Mission Statement: The Monmouth Boat Club Junior Fleet s Mission is to provide a fun and educational program for youth interested in sailing and racing. We seek to impart a love of sailing as a life sport while providing the fundamental skills necessary for participants to advance in the sport of sailing as far as their desire, skill and hard work may take them. Monmouth Boat Club (MBC) strives to be among one of the premier Junior Sailing Programs in New Jersey. In order to achieve this goal, all program participants (junior sailors, instructors, program supervisor, parents and other adults) must understand and work to implement the Junior Fleet Mission Statement. MBC expects all program participants to conduct themselves appropriately at all times and to follow the following Code of Conduct: Professional Conduct I will work proactively to achieve my full potential. I will trust that my instructors have my best long term interest at heart, and I will willingly comply with their direction. Personal Conduct I will conduct myself professionally and accept responsibility for my actions. I will display high standards in my language, manner, punctuality, preparation and presentation. I will display self control, courtesy, respect, honesty, dignity and professionalism. I will refrain from criticizing others this includes my interactions with opponents, coaches, officials, administrators, parents and spectators. Good Sportsmanship/Corinthian Spirit I will continually strive to demonstrate good sportsmanship, both on and off the water. I will place winning in the context of good sportsmanship and fair play. Respect For Others I will respect the rights, dignity and self worth of every individual. I will act honorably and will not lie, cheat or steal (or borrow without permission). I will encourage my fellow junior sailors to display the same qualities, and I will report those who do not respond appropriately to my encouragement to my coach/instructor. Safety Safety underpins everything we do. As such, it must be viewed as a philosophy, and NOT simply items on a checklist. Sailing and racing are inherently risky activities, and all instructors will actively manage risk when working with our youngest sailors and will help our older sailors understand appropriate risk management strategies to ensure that the training and/or competitive environment is safe. As a junior sailing program participant, I will ensure that my equipment is ready to support all planned activities. I will immediately inform my instructor if I feel that I am not ready to participate fully in the planned activity (i.e., understand the task, am physically healthy enough, rested and skilled to ensure its successful outcome). I

9 will look out for my fellow junior sailors. I, have read and understand the MBC Junior Program Mission Statement and I agree to abide by the Code of Conduct for Junior Sailors. I recognize that participation in the MBC Junior Program is a privilege, and not a right. I understand that if I do not abide by and promote the Code of Conduct I may be temporarily or permanently suspended from MBC s Junior Program.
