1 The Supernova Nationals 2018 Special edition 100+ event for the third year in the row - what an achievement The Supernova Association thanks all of its members for supporting our fantastic class and taking part in these national championships. A particularly warm welcome to members who are joining us for their first nationals and also to those members who are here in borrowed boats we hope you make the switch to the Supernovas soon! This bulletin sets out all of the information you need to know for the event. Please note that hard copies of this bulletin will not be printed by the Association, so you may want to print a copy and bring it with you on the day as it will help you with the event registration. The formal Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions have been published on the Association website. We will not be providing hard copies of these for competitors, although a copy will be available for inspection at the event registration. Please read the Sailing Instructions in advance and keep an eye on the website for updated versions which may be published in the run up to the event. A condition of entry is that you display an Allen boom sticker to both sides of your boom. Please make sure you collect 2 stickers from registration and affix them to the front of your boom (gooseneck end!) The Supernova Committee

2 Where to be and when When you arrive at the Plas Heli centre there should be someone on hand from the centre to direct you where to drop off your boat and to park. The centre will be making sure that the boat storage area R will be marked up with indicators for each tally bay. Tally 1 will be closer to the beach launch area W. A map of the centre is shown below. Drop into the event registration during the windows indicated when it suits you. 3 Social side The beach pull The event is not just about the sailing side and we encourage all of our members to socialise and welcome new members. This is one of the strengths and appeals of the Supernova Class, and something we want to continue in the future. As well as the informal boat park banter we have arranged two socials as part of the event package. Friday evening A chilled out social with some light buddy group entertainment. Please make sure you wear your event t- shirt. Buffet style food lasagne, curry and associated carbs! Free beer / drink too. Saturday evening A smarter affair as we are joining the Sailing Club s annual Gala Dinner, so make sure you ve brought a shirt with you! We are on a separate menu to the main Gala and are having a 3 meat carvery for the main followed by a tasty desert. Some wine will be provided on the tables courtesy of the Association. You can buy additional social only tickets from Plas Heli as part of the registration - just 35 per person. The beach at Pwllheli is notoriously sandy and at low tide it can be a bit of a pull up. Plas Heli are laying out a beach mesh which should help with the toughest of the sand. They are also arranging for a few volunteers to help us out with launching and recovery. We suggest that sailors work in teams of 4 or so to move each boat and then make a few trips, one boat at a time. Class Rules You should all have seen s from the Committee about an overhaul we have carried out to the Class Rules and Association Constitution. A Special General Meeting has been called by the members and the Committee to discuss (and hopefully agree) the updated versions. Copies of both documents are available on the Association website. Whilst we welcome comments on the documents, the formal deadline for comments was the end of May. We will answer any questions you have on the documents during the meeting, but we do not plan to take any proposed amendments to the documents during the meeting. Therefore we plan for the meeting to be a yes or no vote. Please note this is a closed general meeting and there will only be one item discussed on the evening. Please note that the current Class Rules have certain requirements about sail numbers and changing sails during events. Please have a quick read of these in advance and ensure that you comply with these rules during the event.

4 Class Fleets For those of you new to the fleet we operate an official two fleet system new members (generally) join the Silver Fleet. There is a promotion system where certain events move you into the Gold fleet, for example winning an open meeting or finishing in the top 20% of a major championship. An important point is that anyone can win the nationals, not just the Gold fleet. For the last couple of nationals the Committee decided to introduce an unofficial Bronze fleet, where prizes are awarded to those finishing in the 75 th percentile or so. As the fleet has grown in size we are keen to look at making this fleet more official and are welcome to ideas on how this could be formally introduced as there are challenges with new members joining the fleet and where they might enter. It is too late for us to change this for the 2018 nationals, but now is the time to share your ideas with the Committee over a drink. We can then look to formailse matters at the AGM in September and implement from next year. Important but boring stuff Photos / Video By taking part you are authorising any photos/videos of you to be used by the Association Committee and the sponsors as they deem to be appropriate. Risk Sailing can be dangerous and participation is at your own risk only. Make sure you and your boat are fit to take part and you meet the insurance requirements.

5 Buddy Groups Once again we are using a buddy system to maximise interaction across the fleet. You will know your buddy group as they will be next to you in the event compound and also they will have the same colour t-shirt as you! The buddy system is also designed to allow you to ask questions and get tips from a more experienced sailor. Prizes These could be tips about sailing, tactics, or even what to wear. There is no official guidance on how your buddy group should work, but we would like the Gold fleet sailor to be proactive in getting their buddy group together and talking. You ll need to be talking by the Friday evening... However, please don t be shy in starting the conversation as some of the Gold fleet sailors are also new to the fleet. 6 Registration checklist When you get to the event registration please see the Plas Heli representative to let them know that you are in attendance. Some specific points: Let them know if you have any dietary requirements Get your Friday meal ticket and drinks voucher Get your Saturday meal ticket Order any additional social tickets you would like Pickup your trolley tag to align with your tally number The Plas Heli team will also be on hand to pass out some items on behalf of the Association: Allen Brothers boom stickers (2 per person) Emergency sustenance!
