Informaton n the dsplay. 1.2 Intended Use The devce s manufactured n accordance wth the current technologcal status and the recognzed safety rules. However, danger to the lfe and lmb of the user or thrd partes and/or damage to the devce and other tangble assets can arse durng use. The devce may only be used for ts ntended purpose and f t s n perfect workng order, and t must be used wth regard to safety and dangers as stated n the operatng manual. The devce applcator mounted on a cab prnter of the Hermes+ seres s ntended exclusvely for applyng sutable materals that have been approved by the manufacturer. Any other use or use gong beyond ths shall be regarded as mproper use. The manufacturer/suppler shall not be lable for damage resultng from unauthorzed use; the user shall bear the rsk alone. Usage for the ntended purpose also ncludes complyng wth the operatng manual, ncludng the manufacturer s mantenance recommendatons and specfcatons. Note The complete documentaton can currently be found n the Internet. 1.3 Safety Instructon Attenton Intaton, adjustments and changng of parts s only for qualfed servce personal only. Intaton/ Servce Manual Applcators Warnng Ths s a class A product. In a domestc envronment ths product may cause rado nterference n whch case the user may be requred to take adequate measures.

5 1 Introducton Before mountng the delvered components dsconnect the prnter from the power supply and close the shutoff valve at the applcator. Only connect the devce to other devces whch have a protectve low voltage. Swtch off all affected devces (computer, prnter, accessores) before connectng or dsconnectng. In operaton, movng parts are easly accessble. Ths apples especally for the zone, where the pad s moved between the startng and the labelng poston. Durng operaton do not reach nto that zone and keep long har, loose clothes, and jewelry dstant. Before any manpulatons n those areas, close the shutoff valve. The devce may only be used n a dry envronment, do not expose t to mosture (sprays of water, msts, etc.). Do not use the devce n an explosve atmosphere. Do not use the devce close to hgh-voltage power lnes. Perform only those actons descrbed n ths operatng manual. Work gong beyond ths may only be performed by traned personnel or servce techncans. Unauthorzed nterference wth electronc modules or ther software can cause malfunctons. Other unauthorzed work on or modfcatons to the devce can also endanger operatonal safety. Always have servce work done n a qualfed workshop, where the personnel have the techncal knowledge and tools requred to do the necessary work. There are varous warnng stckers on the devce. They draw your attenton to dangers. Send to sutable collecton ponts, separately from resdual waste. The modular constructon of the prnt module enables t to be easly dsassembled nto ts component parts. Send the parts for recyclng.

6 6 2 Product Descrpton Important Features The supportng ar and the vacuum as well as the speed of the cylnder are adjustable. That way the applcator can be adapted to dfferent label materals and szes. To avod contamnaton wthn the vacuum channels they are cleaned by ar pressure mpulse at the end of each applcaton. 10 10 3 Operaton Standard Operaton Check all external connectons. Load the materal. Ensure that the lockng system s locked "Operator's Manual" of the prnter. Open the shutoff valve. Attenton Ensure that the pad s not covered by a label when swtchng on the prnter-applcator system. Otherwse the vacuum sensor may be calbrated faultly. X X Swtch on the prnter. Note If the pad s not n the start poston when the prnter s swtched on an error message appears on the dsplay. Press button pause at the prnter. The applcator wll move nto the start poston and s ready for work. Press the button feed at the prnter. A synchronzaton feed s released. The processed labels have to be removed manually. After a few seconds the prnter carres out a short backfeed to poston the front edge of the next label at the prntng lne Note Ths synchronzng also has to be carred out when the prnt job has been nterrupted wth the cancel key. Synchronzng s not necessary when the prnt head was not lfted between prnt jobs. Ths also apples f the prnter was powered off between prnt jobs. Start a prnt job X X Start the labelng process va PLC nterface. Error messages durng labelng process are shown n the dsplay of the prnter 4 Error Messages. 3.2 Cleanng Attenton Never use solvent and abrasve. 1 Clean the outsde surfaces wth mult purpose cleaner. In regularly functon t s possble that accrue dust partcles and label splts. Remove that by a soft brush or/ and a vacuum cleaner. Especally at slde fol (1) t s possble that foulng depost. Attenton Dsconnect the prnter from the power supply before mountng the applcator Ensure a stable standng of the prnter Connect the compressed ar only after mountng the applcator to the prnter For cleanng the applcator and prnter t s sometme necessary to turn away or/and dsmount the applcator. Don't change the adjustments of settng screws, throttle valves or other. So t s possble the use the applcator drect after remountng. Turn away / Dsmount the applcator 1. To turn away the control assembly loosen thumbscrew (7) and swng the applcator. 2. Dsconnect SUB-D 15 male connector (8) to the female connector (9) of the prnter. 3. Loosen screw (6) and move off the lockng plate (5) from hnges. 4. Lft the control assembly upward. 5. Loosen screws (2) and take up base plate wth swng cylnder.(1). Mount the applcator 6. Set the base plate wth swng cylnder.(1) on the bottom sde of the prnter. The holes on the base plate must be over the holes n the prnter chasss. Tghten the screws (2) to mount the base plate (1) on the prnter. 7. Control assembly hang wth the female part (3) of hnges at the prnter hnges male parts (4). 8. To secure the applcator to slp out of hnges loosen screw (6) and move metal part (5) under the hnges and tghten screw (6). 9. Connect SUB-D 15 male connector (8) to the female connector (9) of the prnter. 10. Swng the applcator to the prnter and tghten the thumbscrew (7).

12 12 4 Error Messages Error Messages of the Prnter For detaled nformaton about prnter errors (e.g. 'Paper out', 'Rbbon out', etc.) Operator's manual of the prnter Error treatment: Clear the error results Press the feed key to synchronze the label feed, remove the peeled labels manually Press the pause key to qut the error state. After error correcton, the prnt of the label causng the error wll be repeated. 4.2 Error messages of the applcator The followng table contans an overvew of error messages and ther possble causes. It also suggests methods to resolve the problem: Error Message Ar pressure ns. Possble Cause Compressed ar s swtched off Pressure to low < 4 bar Pressure t hgh > 6 bar Label not depos. Lower poston Label has not been placed onto the product; after the pad has moved back the label stll stcks on the pad. Pad s not n start poston f the prnter swtched on. Pad has not reached the labelng poston wthn 2s after the movement of the pad was started Pad has undefned leavng the start poston. Process Error Refl. sensor blk. Vac. plate empty Upper poston Process of labelng was braked va the I/O nterface of the prnter wth the XSTP sgnal. There has been no change of the swtch state at the upper sensor at the cylnder between the start of the labelng process and the sgnal from the labelng poston sensor. Label has not been pcked up properly by the pad; or label fell off the pad before t could be placed onto the product. Pad has not reached the startng poston wthn 2s after the pad has left the labelng poston; or pad has left the startng poston unauthorzed Table 2 Error messages of the applcator Error treatment: Clear the error results Press the pause key to qut the error state. Note In fault check adjustments and settngs wth help of the Servce Manual. After error correcton, the prnt of the label causng the error cannot be repeated wthout re-start of the prnt job. In the applcaton mode "Apply/Prnt" send the sgnal "Prnt frst label" or press the button to send a prnted label to the pad.

13 5 Installaton 5.1 Factory Default Settngs 13 Note The applcator s adjusted n a standard confguraton by the factory. Adjustments wth these values guarantee a smooth operaton wth same confguraton. Note In case of a customer setup wth specal materal the adjustments can devate from standard values. Then the values n the setup protocol are vald. 14 14 5 Installaton Mountng the applcator parts on the prnter Fg. 8 Mountng Applcator - Prnter Note In case of order a complete / confgured system wll be mounted some parts. Several steps of mountng dropped. Partcularly pad and product sensor. 1. Hang on the control assembly (8) wth the female part of hnges (2) at the prnter mounted hnges (3). 2. Connect SUB-D 15 male connector (7) to the female connector (6) of the prnter. 3. To secure the applcator aganst slppng out out of hnges loosen screw (5) and move metal part (4) under the hnges and tghten screw (5). 4. Swng the applcator to the prnter and tghten the thumbscrew (1). 5. Set the base plate wth swng cylnder.(11) on the bottom sde of the prnter (9). The holes on the base plate must be over the holes n the prnter chasss. Tghten the screws (12) to mount the base plate (1) on the prnter (9). 6. Mount the pad (17) wth the screws (part of the pad assembly) on the swng lever (18) of the applcator. 7. Mount the sensor bracket (16) wth screws (13) on pad (17). 8. Mount product sensor (14) wth screws (15) M3x16 on the the sensor bracket (16). 9. Mount blow tube(10). next chapter

15 5 Installaton 5.4 Mountng the blow tube Fg. 9 Mountng the blow tube It s possble to rotate the blow tube to optmze the support wth the support ar for the take over procedure of the label from prnter to applcator. 1. Loosen screw (1). 2. Put n the blow tube (3) nto the hole A (2). 3. Tghten screw (1) easly to secure t 6.2 Blow Tube and Support Ar Adjustments 5.5 Connectng the Compressed Ar Attenton Adjustments and functon control was made wth a compressed ar value of 4.5 bar. The applcator operatng range s between 4.0 and 6.0 bar. Warnng When the applcator s connected to the compressed ar cylnder movements are possble. Do not reach nto the zone of the movng pad and keep long har, loose clothes, and jewelry dstant Check that the stop valve (2) s closed shown n fgure Attach compressed ar at the fttng (1). 3. Open the stop valve (2). 4. Swtch on the prnter by the power swtch. Press button pause at the prnter. The applcator wll move nto the start poston and s ready for work. Note Mount and use the ar pressure regulaton unt only n the shown orentaton. Otherwse the functon of the ar-water separator can not be guaranteed.

16 16 6 Adjustments Vacuum Adjustments Wth an under pressure (vacuum) wll be the label fxed on the pad. Ths vacuum must be so strong that the label s fxed on the pad and all sucton holes of the pad are covered by the label. The vacuum doesn't be so strong that the correct transport of the label from prnter to applcator wll be rsk. Ths s depend of the label materal. The standard value ex factory s -0.6 bar Note Over the adjustment of the vacuum t s possble that the form feed of the label to the pad could be manpulate. If the vacuum to strong t s possble that the form feed of the label stop to early. 1 support ar vacuum Fg. 11 Throttle valve "vacuum" Adjust the vacuum on the throttle valve "vacuum" (1) so that the label wll sucked on over the complete area. To ncrease the vacuums turn the settng screw on the throttle valve (1) counterclockwse. Measurng Pont (MP V) to measure the Vacuums Use a manometer wth a measurement area -7 to 7 bar for measurement the pressure. MP V MP V MP V: Vacuum (standard value -0.6 bar) Remove cover. 2. Cover sucton plate hermetc. 3. Attach manometer between measurement ponts MP V. Tube (1) at the energy track Fttng (2) on the pad 4. Actvate the valve manually wth open compressed ar supply and pressng of mcro swtch (3) to measure the pressure. 5. As and when requred adjust t on vacuum throttle valve "vacuum". 6. Mount cover agan. Fg. 12 Measurng pont to measure the vacuum Attenton After pressure measurements, connect all component exactly and check t.

17 6 Adjustments 6.2 Blow Tube and Support Ar Adjustments Adjust the support ar that the label can constant wthout swrl come to the pad from the dspense edge of the prnter. All blow tube holes whch are over the broadness from the label must be covered. The standard value ex factory s 2 bar. Note Use a blow tube for the used type of prnter. A number of holes n blowng tube s covered by plastc rngs. It s necessary remove so many rngs that the supportng ar can reach whole label wdth Fg. 13 Adjust the blow tube The blow tube (3) for the supportng ar can be rotated around ts axs. That way the drecton of the supportng ar can be optmzed. 1. Loosen screw (1). 2. Put n the blow tube (3) nto the tube adapter A (2). Turn the blow tube (3) n that drecton, that the ar current supports the suckng of the label from the dspense edge (5) by the pad (4). For small labels drect the ar current to the dspense edge (4) of the prnter. For larger labels drect the ar current away from the dspense edge (4). Use the graduaton to orentaton. 3. Tghten screw (1). 1 support ar vacuum Fg. 14 Throttle valve "support ar" Adjust wth the valve "support ar" (1) the supportng ar to blow the label aganst the pad. To ncrease the supportng ar turn counterclockwse the screw at the valve (1).

18 18 6 Adjustments 18 Measurng pont (RP S) of support ar Use a manometer wth a measurement area -7 to 7 bar for measurement the pressure. MP S: support ar (reference value 2 bar) 1 1. Remove cover and connect the manometer on RP S. - Tube (2) from valve block to blow tube connector. - Fttng (3) on the blow tube 2. Actvate the valve manually wth open compressed ar supply and pressng of mcro swtch (1) to measure the pressure. 3. As and when requred adjust t on support ar throttle valve "support ar". 4. Mount cover agan. 2 3 MP S Fg. 15 Readng ponts to measure the pressure Attenton After pressure measurements, connect all component exactly and check t.

19 6 Adjustments 6.3 Adjustng the sensors of the swng cylnder Fg. 16 Adjustng the sensors of the swng cylnder Close the pressure ar support. Swtch on the prnter. The sensors (4 and 9) detect the end poston of the swng cylnder movement. The generated sgnal s necessary for the next steps n the operaton process. Sensor (4) s swtched: pad s n start poston and the prnt and labelng process can start. Sensor (9) s swtched: pad s n labelng poston. The applcaton of the label wll start va the product sensor. Swng the pad assembly n the used poston. Loosen screw (3 or 7) and make a frst adjustment. The damper on the settng screw s full pressed n n ths poston. Tghten screw (3 or 7). Loosen screw (2 or 8) and move the sensor (4 or 9) so that the sensor wll trgger sure va the swtch arm (5). It s to see on the glowng of the LED on the sensor. If the pad assembly has leave the end poston, the LED at the sensor does not glow. Tghten screw(2 or 8).

20 20 6 Adjustments Adjust the speed of the swng cylnder 1 2 B A Fg. 17 Throttle valves on the swng cylnder To adjust the speed of the cylnder movements use the throttle valves 1 and 2 on the swng cylnder. Over the throttle valves wll controlled the outflow of the pressure ar. Settng screw (1) turnng clockwse for a slowly movement of the pad assembly n drecton labelng poston (B). Settng screw(1) turnng counterclockwse for a faster movement of the pad assembly n drecton labelng poston (B). Settng screw (2) turnng clockwse make the movement of the pad assembly n drecton start poston (A) slowly Settng screw (2) turnng counterclockwse make the movement of the pad assembly n drecton labelng poston (A) faster. Attenton The tme for the downward movement of the pad may not exceed 2 seconds. Otherwse the error message "Lower poston" wll appear.

21 6 Adjustments 6.5 Adjustng the Product Sensors The product sensor detects the labelng poston of the pad n relaton to the product. The adjustng of the product sensor s dependng of operaton mode - stamp on or blow on. The detectng dstance of the sensor s mm from the lower edge of the sensor. 21 Mountng the product sensor Screw on the sensor (1) on the bracket (2). 2. Mount the bracket (2) wth nstalled sensor (1) on the pad wth the screws (ncluded the pad). 3. Put the cable of the product sensor lke the tubes to the control unt of the applcator. 4. Put n the male round connector (3) nto the female round connector on the control unt of the applcator. Adjustng the product sensor On the product sensor are two LED's to show the operaton condton. green LED (4) glow - Sensor n operaton yellow LED (5) glow - Sensor s swtched A small red lght pont show the detecton pont on the product. Attenton Dsconnect the compressed ar before the adjustment wll be started 1. Move the product (10) n the labelng poston and swtch on the prnter wth closed pressure ar shutoff valve. 2. Pull out the tube from the throttle valve (7) and swng the lever wth pad from poston (8) to the product (10) n poston (9). stamp on: drect on the product blow on: maxmum 10 mm dstance to the product 3. If the yellow LED (6) glow n ths poston turn the settng screw (5) counterclockwse that the yellow LED (6) wll be out. 4. Turn the settng screw (5) slowly clockwse so that the yellow LED (6) glows agan. 5. After settngs put n the tube nto the throttle valve (7) and swtch on the pressure ar shutoff valve. 6. Qut the error message on the prnter wth the pausebutton. Pad wll move to the start poston Fg. 18 Product Sensor

22 22 7 Confguraton 22 The applcator can be operated n dfferent ways. Whle the orgnal process stays the same, the operaton mode can be chosen wthn the prnter setup. The most mportant settng s the selecton between the operaton modes "Stamp on" and "Blow on". Addtonally the applcator has dfferent applcaton modes concernng the order of prntng and applyng wthn one labelng cycle. Note For more nformaton about the prnter confguraton and the functon of the keys n the navgator pad Confguraton manual of the prnter or Operator's manual of the prnter 7.1 Method for Changng the Prnter Setup 1. Press menu key. 2. Select Setup > Machne param. > Applcator. 3. Select and adjust the needed parameters 4. Adjust the delay tme by pressng the ~ key and key. 3. To swtch between the dfferent delay tmes press the } key. 4. To leave the quck setup mode press the key. 23 7 Confguraton 7.3 Confguraton Parameters of the Applcator The confguraton parameters of the applcator can be found n the menu Setup > Machne param. 23 Parameter Meanng Default Applcator Confguraton parameters of the applcator > Mode of Settng the operaton mode Stamp on, Roll on, Blow on oper. > Mode of Settng the applcaton mode Prnt-Apply / Apply-Prnt appl. Prnt-Apply: An external start sgnal releases the prnt of a label and followng the applcaton of the label. After a cycle s complete, the pad wthout label wats n the start poston. Apply-Prnt: An extra sgnal starts the prnt of the frst label and the transfer of the label to the pad. The external start sgnal releases the applcaton of the label and followng the prnt and transfer of the next label. After a cycle s complete, the pad wth a label s n the watng poston. > Watng only at Mode of oper. Blow on and Mode of appl. Apply-Prnt poston up: Pad wats n the start poston for the start sgnal down: Pad wats n the labelng poston for the start sgnal > Blow tme only at Mode of oper. Blow on Swtch-on tme (max. 2.5 s) of the blowng ar for the label transfer > Support delay on > Support del. off Settng the swtch-on delay (max. 2.5 s) for the supportng ar between prnt start and swtchng on the supportng ar. The delay prevents swrlng at the front of the label and, consequently, avods faults when the label s beng pcked up from the prnter. Settng the swtch-off delay (max. 2.5 s) for the supportng ar between the end of label forwardng and swtchng on the supportng ar. The delay can be useful to separate the rear edge of the label from the carrer to avod errors and to mprove the accuracy of label postonng > Delay tme Delay (max. 2.5 s) between start sgnal and the start of an labelng cycle. Allows e.g. the use of product sensors at conveyors. > Lock tme All start sgnals comng n followng the frst start sgnal are gnored when they arrve wthn the lock tme. > Peel poston > Vacuum control Shft the poston of the dspensed label relatvely to the dspense edge. In the software an extra peel offset value s avalable. The offset values from Peel poston and from software are added together for executon. "Settng the Peel Poston". Settng the label transfer check from prnter to pad and from pad to product by the vacuum sensor > Hand-over up Take over the label drect from the dspense edge va contact between pad and dspense edge. Not n functon for Type 4014 / 4016, 4314 / 4316 > Cleanng Actvate / Deactvate - ar pressure mpulse to clean the pad blow > Vacuum delay On - The vacuum wll swtched on after end of the label transport. 24 24 7 Confguraton Settng the Peel Poston To optmze the transfer of the labels from the prnter to the pad there two dfferent parameters are avalable for adjustng the peel poston. Attenton Frst adjust the parameter "Peel Poston" n the prnter confguraton. Followng adjust the addtonal peel-off offset n the software. It s very mportant to follow that procedure for a certan start after label loadng and for the re-start after error treatment. Parameter "Peel Poston" n the prnter confguraton Check the basc settng n the prnter setup. Perform labelng cycles by alternately pressng the feed key and the pre-dspense key 8.1 Test Mode wthout Prnt Job. Adjust the "Peel Poston" n such a way, that the blank labels are peeled-off completely from the lner 7.3 Confguraton Parameters of the Applcator. Peel-off offset n the software Check the settng n the software. Perform labelng cycles by repeatedly pressng the the pre-dspense key 8.2 Test Mode wth Prnt Job Adjust the peel-off offset n such a way, that the prnted labels are peeled-off completely from the lner Programmng manual or software documentaton. 7.5 Actvaton of Peel-off Mode Note For labelng operaton actvate the peel-off mode n the software. For drect programmng use the P command Programmng manual.

The whole labelng process can be smulated wthout the need of a prnt job or a connecton to a computer by alternately pressng the feed (2) key and the Enter key (1): Press the feed key (2). A blank label s fed. The vacuum at the pad as well as the supportng ar (blow tube) are swtched on. After the label has been pcked up by the pad, the supportng ar s swtched off. Press the Enter key (1). The pad s moved to the labelng poston. A sensor sgnals when the labelng poston s reached. The vacuum s swtched off and the label s placed onto the product. Then, the pad s moved back nto the startng poston. 8.2 Test Mode wth Prnt Job Note Please use that test mode to adjust the peel-off offset n the software. That method allows to check labelng process wth the real prnt data usng the Enter key (1). Send a prnt job. The test mode s executed n two half cycles: Press the Enter key (1). Half cycle 1 A label s prnted. The vacuum at the pad as well as the supportng ar (blow tube) are swtched on. After the label has been pcked up by the pad, the supportng ar s swtched off. Press the Enter key (1) agan. Half cycle 2 The pad s moved to the labelng poston. A sensor sgnals when the labelng poston s reached. The vacuum s swtched off and the label s placed onto the product. Then, the pad s moved back nto the startng poston. If the label s manually removed from the pad after the frst half cycle, the half cycle 1 wll be repeated when the pre-dspense key s pressed agan.
