Element Aspect Plant Advice Instruction, Information and Records Warning Signage Ensure hazard warning signage relevant to the communication of hazards during operation and maintenance is prominently displayed and adequate Operator Labelled Ensure all operator controls have been identified prior to operation so as to indicate their nature, function and direction of operation. Plant Guarding Engine, Motors, Drivetrain or Moving Parts Ensure all plant casings/motors have been enclosed and prevent access to internal components. Connections Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. s Competent Operators Ensure only skilled and competent personnel have access to plant for operation or maintenance.

2 s Potential for electrocution of operator or electrical fire. Ensure plant is inspected and maintained as per ASINZS 3760 or ASINZS3012: In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment and ASINZS Wiring rules. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock (e.g. double insulation). s Cutting Hazard Potential for operator lacerations if hands or limbs come into contact with moving blade. Ensure no jewellery or loose clothing is worn and long hair tied back during operation. Erect warning signage and provide training in safe use. Keep hands clear of moving parts. Ensure telescopic guards remain in place and are working prior to operation. s Fire or Explosion Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gasesor dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. s Foreign Objects Potential for operator Injury resulting from contact with foreign objects (e.g. dust etc). Ensure suitable eye protection is worn during operation. Never point in the direction of another person. s Plant Inspection Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tools operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use.

Operator Access to controls Prior to operation, ensure operator controls are located so they can be readily and conveniently operated in accordance with original design. Operator Labelled Prior to operation, ensure operator controls are identified so as to indicate their nature, function and direction of operation Operator Emergency Stop Ensure an Emergency stop button is in place and compliant with AS4024 and AS1543. ESB should be mushroom type (not recessed) push button which can be activated by the palm. ESB should be red colour with yellow background. Ensure a testing regime of emergency functions is implemented. Plant / Equipment Stability Prior to operation, ensure saw is secured to work bench and secured from movement. Plant Guarding Engine/ Motors/ Drivetrain Ensure all plant casings/motors have been enclosed and prevent access to internal components. Do not wear loose clothing, gloves, neckties, rings, bracelets or other jewellery which may get caught in the moving parts.

5 Plant Guarding Moving Parts Potential for operator entanglement, cutting or striking hazards. Ensure telescopic guard is fitted over blade prior to operation in accordance with AS4024 s Competent Operators Ensure only skilled and competent personnel have access to plant for operation or maintenance. s Cutting Hazard Potential for operator to sustain cuts from moving parts of plant. Ensure all precautions are taken to eliminate hazard (i.e. guarding, isolation of persons from work area during operations, warning signage, training etc.). Ensure telescopic guard fitted over blade. s Manual Handling Potential for injury to operator from repetitive, sustained or high force movements. Ensure a manual handling risk assessment is completed to identify if tasks completed in conjunction with this item of plant contain a component of hazardous manual handling. s Pre-Operation Checks Ensure pre-operation safety checks (buttons, switches, controls, warning devices and consumables etc.) completed by operator at the start of each shift. Ensure all faults recorded and plant removed from use if unsafe. s Chemicals Where ever possible handling of hazardous chemicals should be eliminated. Safety Data Sheets (SDS's) for all substances used inconjunction with this item of plant should be obtained from suppliers and provided to operators e.g. cutting fluids. Ensure where ever possible handling of chemicals is eliminated. Operators must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment. Ensure incompatible dangerous goods are segregated in accordance with Regulatory, Australian Standards and Australian Dangerous Goods Code requirements. s Plant to be used in conjunction with earth leakage circuit breaker (safety switch) and overload protection. s Potential for electrocution of operator or electrical fire. Ensure plant is inspected and maintained as per ASINZS 3760 or ASINZS3012: In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment and ASINZS Wiring rules. s Fire or Explosion Do not store flammable liquids, vapours or combustible materials in vicinity of plant or during such activities as re-fuelling. Observe all precautions in ensuring ignition sources do not come into contact with flammable liquids, vapours or combustible materials to prevent fire or explosion. s Noise Operator exposure to a work environment where the sound pressure level may be above the noise exposure standard. Ensure controls are implemented to reduce the level of noise in the workplace. Operators required to wear appropriate hearing protection.

6 s Foreign Objects Potential for operator Injury resulting from contact with foreign objects (e.g. dust etc). Ensure suitable eye protection is worn during operation. Warning Devices Warning lights Verify warning lights present and operational to indicate that cycle is in progress.

Ensure all hot surfaces are insulated as far as is reasonably practicable. Hot surfaces should be labelled to warn operators. Allow steam to escape and hot items to cool prior to removing from dishwasher s Chemicals Where ever possible handling of chemicals should be eliminated. Ensure elbow length gloves are available during oil filtering/replacement. s Fire or Explosion Ensure water does not come into contact with hot oil as this will cause an explosion causing potential burns to operator. s If electrical rather than gas, potential for electrocution of operator or electrical fire. Ensure plant is inspected and maintained as per ASINZS 3760 or ASINZS3012: In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment and ASINZS Wiring rules. s If electrical rather than gas, plant to be used in conjunction with earth leakage circuit breaker (safety switch) and overload protection. s Gas Fittings If gas fired, always use the correct fittings. Do not substitute high pressure hose and fittings for low pressure ones. Check all hoses, regulators, taps regularly during servicing.
