Parker Hannifin's safety blocks provide safety and closing functions for operating pressures up to 350 bar. The pressure relief/discharge valves are CE marked in accordance with the European Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC. Parker Safety Blocks are supplied in two different sizes, and are available with pressure relief/discharge valves which are suitable for flow rates up to 300 l/min at 330 bar on the largest size, ASB64. They are available with either manually- or electrically-operated discharge valves. Commissioning and maintenance of the safety block and associated equipment must be performed by qualified personnel. 4 ASB20 ASB20 Safety Block The ASB20 accumulator safety block incorporates a manuallyoperated pressure relief/discharge valve, and is also available with an additional electrically-operated discharge valve see pages 5 and 6. The manual-only version, ASB20 type M, is denoted by an M in the model number, see page 15, while models with the additional electrically-operated discharge valve, ASB20 type E, are identified by the letter E. Both versions incorporate a lever-operated shut-off valve and the type SVH pressure relief/discharge valve shown on page 13. The cartridge design of the pressure relief/discharge valve allows it to be readily replaced by a valve with a different pressure setting. The pre-set pressure, in bar, is stamped onto the identification plate and follows the model number. A handwheel allows the pressure relief valve setting to be adjusted between zero and the pre-set maximum. Where frequent or remote operation of a discharge valve is required, an electrically-operated discharge valve should be specified. The block should always be mounted as close as possible to the accumulator. For diagnostic purposes and continuous pressure monitoring, the block has two ports M1 and M2. 7 ASB32/64 ASB32 Safety Block The ASB32 accumulator safety block incorporates a manuallyoperated pressure relief/discharge valve, and is also available with an additional electrically-operated discharge valve see pages The manual-only version, ASB32 type M, is denoted by an M in the model number, see page 15, while models with the additional electrically-operated discharge valve, ASB32 type E, are identified by the letter E. 13 Pressure Relief/Discharge Valve Pressure Relief/Discharge Valve The function of the pressure relief/discharge valve is to protect the accumulator in service, and to enable the accumulator to be discharged manually by lowering the pressure relief valve setting to zero. Two versions of the pressure relief/discharge valve are available: the type SVH which is fitted with a handwheel, or the type SVK which is adjusted using a screwdriver. ASB20 and ASB32 safety blocks use type SVH pressure relief/ discharge valves, fitted with a handwheel. The ASB64 safety block uses two pressure relief/discharge valves; a type SVH and a type SVK, on which the adjustment screw is covered by a protective cap. Note: both valves must have the same pressure settings. Because of its cartridge design, the pressure relief/discharge valve can be readily replaced by a valve with a different pressure setting, selected from the table. A new approval under PED 97/23/EC is not required following this change. Note that the maximum flow rate for an ASB64 safety block is doubled because two pressure relief/discharge valves are fitted. Type Approval The pressure relief/discharge valve is checked and security sealed following approval, according to pressure vessel regulations. It carries a type approval number and a serial number. All valves are supplied with a certificate showing the pressure setting. The documents supplied with the pressure relief/discharge valve must be retained, as they will be required in the event of repeat tests. Security The pressure relief/discharge valve is locked with a tamperproof lead seal, to prevent any unauthorized increase of the pre-set pressure.
