1 Type 1 - Nitrogen Generation System Designed for: Dry or Pre-Action Fire Protection Systems (FPS) with a total capacity up to 750 gallons 1.0 Nitrogen Generation Corrosion Inhibiting System 1.1 The Fire Sprinkler Contractor shall provide all required equipment, materials, labor and services needed to install a complete and operational Nitrogen Generation Corrosion Inhibiting System in order to service all dry and/or pre-action Fire Protection Systems (FPS), or as directed per the Design Engineer. Installation guidelines by the manufacturer shall be followed Nitrogen Generation System Separate Air Compressor Requirements Leak Detection System Fire Protection System Gas Purging Device Supervisory Gas Monitoring Device Nitrogen Purity Senor Air Maintenance Device System Installation Protocol System Startup and Technical Training 2.0 Nitrogen Generation System 2.1 The Fire Sprinkler Contractor shall provide and install a MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System per the Nitrogen Generator Sizing Chart (2.12) 2.2 A single MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System shall provide Supervisory Pressure between 0-60 PSI to no more than (10) zones (zone = sprinkler piping plumbed from a single riser). 2.3 The MICBlast Type 1 FPS- Nitrogen Generation System shall have an integrated, oil-less air compressor, located within the Nitrogen Generator System cabinet and the compressor is to be mounted on vibration isolating mounts that are non-rubber or non-polymer vibration dampening mounts. 2.4 The MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System (FPS-20 & FPS-50) cabinet shall be wall mounted, with dimensions of 32 H x 16 W x 11 D (80 lbs). 2.5 The MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System shall provide a minimum of 95% Nitrogen purity to the FPS. 2.6 The MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System shall include a Particulate and a Coalescing filter (internally mounted within the cabinet), sized properly for the required Compressed Air IN flow rates. 2.7 The Nitrogen purity outputted by the MICBlast FPS Nitrogen Generation System shall be monitored and verified via a hand held portable or wall mounted stationary Quick-Check - Nitrogen Purity Sensor (see section 6.0). 2.8 The MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System shall be powered by 120V AC requiring a 20 AMP dedicated circuit. 2.9 For each MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System the manufacturer shall provide a single (28) gallon Nitrogen Storage Tank. The Nitrogen Storage Tank shall be DOT or ASME rated for 150 PSI and shall be provided with ASME rated 100 PSI Safety Relief valve, on/off valve and ¼ NPT I/O fitting.

2 2.10 The MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System and Nitrogen Storage Tank shall be plumbed by the Sprinkler Contractor using ½ copper, galvanized or black steel pipe or approved flex hosing, rated at 175 PSI per drawing (2.13) A Separate Air Compressor, with the only requirement of filling the largest zone to pressure within 30 minutes, shall be furnished by the Sprinkler Contractor and shall be plumbed to bypass the MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System (see Drawing Set 2.13) ½ copper, galvanized, black steel or approved flex hosing rated at 175 PSI shall be used when plumbing the MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System to the Air Maintenance Device/s. This includes the plumbing from MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System to the Nitrogen Storage Tank, then to the Air Maintenance Device/s (per Drawing Set 2.13) Nitrogen Generator Sizing Chart (2.12) MICBlast - FPS "Type 1" Series Nitrogen Generator MICBlast Model FPS gal Capacity* Dimensions Power Req. Amps FPS-20 up to H x 16 W x 11 D 120V 20 FPS to H x 16 W x 11 D 120V 20 * MICBlast Sizing: Add the gallons of each zone together to get the sum of all zones and then size the system accordingly Drawing Set (2.13) Feed Air Compressor Integrated Integrated 2.14 Nitrogen Generation System Compliances The MICBlast - Nitrogen Generation Corrosion Inhibiting System shall be designed, installed, tested, inspected and maintained to comply with all codes and standards relevant to the following specifications: NFPA 13 : Standard for Installation of Sprinkler Systems NFPA 25 : Standard for the Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water- Based Fire Protection Systems (FPS)

3 All devices and products will be in compliance with Section (3) of NFPA13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, 2007 Edition. 3.0 Separate Air Compressor Requirements 3.1 In addition to the integrated air compressor within the MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System, a generic Separate Air Compressor shall be furnished and installed. This air compressor s only requirement is to fill the largest zone of the FPS to pressure within 30 minutes per NFPA 13 requirements ½ copper, galvanized, black steel or approved flex hosing rated at 175 PSI shall be used when plumping the Separate Air Compressor to the FPS A bypass shall be installed when piping the Separate Air Compressor (see Drawing Set 7.1) to the FPS. Ball valves shall be installed in line with the piping going to the Air Maintenance Device/s so either air from the Separate Air Compressor or Nitrogen from the MICBlast - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System can be used to provide Supervisory Pressure to the FPS. 3.2 The Separate Air Compressor shall be provided with a pressure switch to be field adjusted. 3.3 Electrical shall be provided for the Separate Air Compressor per the manufacturer s specifications. 4.0 Leak Detection System 4.1 The MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System shall be designed with an internal BlastOff - Leak Detection System containing an isolated dry contact rated up to 240VAC 16amps (NC&NO Contacts available). The Fire Sprinkler Contractor shall run a DC or AC signal line in ½ code approved electrical conduit from the MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System to the supervisory circuit on the Building Monitoring System The BlastOff - Leak Detection System is to send a signal to the Building Monitoring System should significant leaks develop within the FPS piping, prior to them becoming catastrophic and causing supervisory pressure to fall below specification. These leaks shall be addressed at that time by the Fire Sprinkler Contractor in order to minimize unnecessary runtime on the MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System. 5.0 Fire Protection System Gas Purging Device 5.1 A single MICBlast - AutoPurge System shall be installed at the end of each Zone, at a high point within the FPS (see Drawing Set 5.6). 5.2 The AutoPurge System shall not require any electrical connection AC or DC. 5.3 The MICBlast - AutoPurge System shall have a connection allowing the Quick-Check - Portable or Fixed Nitrogen Purity Sensor to attach and sense the purity of Nitrogen within the FPS to ensure that proper Nitrogen purity levels have been attained. 5.4 The Fire Sprinkler Contractor shall adjust each MICBlast - AutoPurge System to purge the FPS per the MICBlast - AutoPurge System manufactures specifications outlined within the sizing chart located on the device. 5.5 The Fire Sprinkler Contractor shall confirm that the ball valve on each MICBlast - AutoPurge System is left in the open position during normal operation and shut off/taken out of service during hydro or static testing by turning the ball valve to the closed position.

4 5.6 Drawing Sets (5.6) 6.0 Supervisory Gas Monitoring Device Nitrogen Purity Sensor 6.1 Furnish either (1) Quick-Check - Portable Hand Held Nitrogen Purity Sensor per MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System and/or (1) Quick-Check - Fixed Mount Nitrogen Purity Sensor per Riser Room (to be installed on the largest zone) The battery operated Quick-Check - Portable Hand Held Nitrogen Purity Sensor is to be connected during periodic inspections to the end of the MICBlast - AutoPurge System (see Drawing Set 5.6) to obtain a quick purity reading of the Nitrogen content within the FPS The Quick-Check - Fixed Mount Nitrogen Purity Sensor shall be wall mounted within 5 of a MICBlast - AutoPurge System located near the end of the largest zone (the Design Engineer can choose to recommend (1) of these devices per Zone if desired) The Fire Sprinkler Contractor shall provide 110V AC power to the Quick- Check - Fixed Mount Nitrogen Purity Sensor and also a single twisted pair signal line in ½ code approved electrical conduit for an isolated dry contact rated up to 240VAC 16amps (NC&NO contacts available) to the supervisory circuit on the Building Monitoring System. 7.0 Air Maintenance Device (Note: Supplied by the Sprinkler Contractor) 7.1 The Air Maintenance Device shall be equipped with an adjustable pressure regulator (sized to meet Supervisory Pressure settings) for setting the maximum pressure on the FPS. 7.2 The Air Maintenance Device shall not contain a pressure switch. 7.3 The Air Maintenance Device shall be installed per the manufacturer s specifications.

5 8.0 System Installation Protocol 8.1 As specified by the Design Engineer, a MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System shall be installed. Installation instructions as directed by the manufacturer shall be followed. An optional Corrosion Monitoring System is available upon request and shall be installed by the Sprinkler Contractor. The BlastOff, Quick-Check and MICBlast - AutoPurge System accessories shall be installed by the Sprinkler Contractor and no party shall remove or tamper with the devices The following services to be completed during installation of the Nitrogen Generation System: Installation: MICBlast FPS - Type 1 Nitrogen Generation System Related products (see 3.0 thru 7.0) As required, all piping, fittings, valves etc System compliance and pressure (leak) testing 8.2 Operating pressure range of the Dry or Pre-Action FPS shall be determined by the Fire Sprinkler Contractor. The Fire Sprinkler Contractor shall also set the system Air Maintenance Device accordingly for each zone to the proper setting. Final settings shall be implemented with input from the manufacturer. 8.3 The Fire Sprinkler Contractor shall confirm that all connections between Quick-Check Purity Sensors and the specified connection points have been successfully achieved as indicated by the manufacturer. 8.4 Following the installation of the Nitrogen Generation Corrosion Inhibiting System, the Fire Sprinkler Contractor will test the FPS leak rate to ensure that it conforms to NFPA 13 requirements ( ).
