Stirley Barn Pressurisation Test Fri 13-Dec-2013 Pressurisation test performed using a Minneapolis DuctBlaster. The only additional temporary sealing performed was around the blower door frame, where the staggering of the blower door frame sliders created potential air paths between the blower door frame and the actual door frame in the North wall. Results: Test Date Air leakage rate Pressurisation Only Depressurisation Only Mean Air permeability Correlation Air leakage rate Air permeability Correlation Air leakage rate Air permeability h -1 m 3 /(h.m 2 ) r 2 h -1 m 3 /(h.m 2 ) r 2 h -1 m 3 /(h.m 2 ) 21-Jun Dec Although there has been a slight deterioration in airtightness since the test performed at air barrier completion on 21-Jun-2013, this building is still incredibly airtight and well within the requirements for PHI certification. There has been a bigger increase in the results under depressurisation than under pressurisation, this confirms observations made during leakage 1
detection that the bulk of the uncontrolled air movement is around the doors. Under pressurisation the inward-opening doors will be pushed into the frames and sealed more effectively, reducing the leakage here DEPRESSURISATION MINNEAPOLIS BLOWER DOOR DATA INPUT AND CALCULATION date: 13/12/2013 Version October Stirley Barn, Huddersfield test house address: Green Building Store company: house type: Passivhaus EnerPHit barn conversion tester: DF, DJ, DMS, MP test reference number: Test 2 Blow er Door & Gauge Used Model 3 w ith DG outdoor temp ( C) 12.3 C Note: ENSURE THAT FLOW SETTINGS ARE IN M3/HR - When using the DG700 gauge Ln delta P indoor temp ( C) 20.9 C you do not need to input a baseline pressure difference as this is calculated by the outdoor humidity (%rh) 79.7 %RH gauge and the readings adjusted automatically indoor humidity (%rh) 56 %RH PRESSURISATION outdoor barometric pressure 989 mbar or hpa Calculated Outdoor Air Density 1.20 kg/m indoor barometric pressure 988 mbar or hpa Calculated Indoor Air Density 1.16 kg/m temperature corr. fact. depress temperature corr. fact. press w ind speed (m/s): 2.6 baseline pressure diff (Pa) (+/-) house w idth: house depth: Pa 4.82 m m house height: 6.39 m floor area: m 2 volume: m 3 envelope area including floor: m 2 Pressure Difference for ELA RESULTS: 10 Pa Q50 Mean Flow at 50Pa = m 3 /h Mean Air Leakage at 50Pa = 0.35 h -1 Mean Air Permeability at 50 Pa = 0.40 m/h or m 3 h/m 2 Equivalent Leakage Area = m 2 at 10 Pa DEPRESSURISATION RING - O,A,B,C,D,E for BD3 0,1,2,3 for MEASURED FAN PRESSURE (Pa) EnerPHit retrofit of existing barn. Thermal images captured inside the building at 10K, 7.5K and 5K ranges all under depressurisation indicate how little bridging and air infiltration could be observed: 2
Some leakage was detected at the base of the opening door on the central entrance. This may have been intensified by positioning of the blower door, as with the actual door here closed and locked the sealing of both doors against the frame may have been improved. 3
The external door at the West end also showed infiltration between the door and frame, under depressurisation, at both the top and the bottom of the door. Some infiltration observed through cracks in the roof timbers. 4
Some thermal bridging at the some of the roof brackets which extend into the insulation layer. Infiltration observed at one window only, all the others appeared airtight. 5
Air leakage also observed around both the South-facing door and the door at the East end of the barn. 6
No air leakage or thermal bridging issues around non-opening windows, or most of the service penetrations. Some bridging was observed at the external penetrations for the MVHR. 7
