March 3 rd, 2016 EM Global Initiatives in diving, Balder Life Extension Project & Decommissioning Opportunities This presentation includes forward-looking statements. Actual future conditions (including economic conditions, energy demand, and energy supply) could differ materially due to changes in technology, the development of new supply sources, political events, demographic changes, and other factors discussed herein (and in Item 1A of ExxonMobil s latest report on Form 10-K or information set forth under "factors affecting future results" on the "investors" page of our website at This material is not to be reproduced without the permission of Exxon Mobil Corporation.
Global Diving Project Management within EM There has been a initiative within ExxonMobil since 2010 to improve Diving Project Management capability on a global level to achieve the goal of "Nobody Gets HURT". The key focus areas over the last years have been: Align on diving management expectations globally by standardizing processes and activities related to planning/executing diving operations. 1. Updated EM Upstream Diving Safety Standard, which adopts the IOGP RP 411 Diving Recommended Practice and defines the safety level expectations within the Company 2. Combining EMDC Diving Management System and EMPC Work Management System - Diving Safe Work Practice into a single management system for more consistent stewardship of diving activity through the global Upstream. 3. Updates to the EM s Contractor Specifications: "Diving Operation Global Practice " Utilization of the NORSOK U-100 standard as a technical base for the new updated GP 4. Active partisipation in the IOGP Diving Operations Sub-Committee (DOSC) for developing of Diving Recommended Practices 5. Increased focus on managing diving operations through OBO or JV with other operators 6. Championing Hyperbaric Evacuation process for saturation divers, with an increased mobilization of hyperbaric reception facilities, and hyperbaric rescue unit recovery vessels 7. Increased initiative to engineer out Higher risk diving operations for ROV intervention. 8. Update of training, experience and qualifications for diving worksite representatives. 2
Balder Life Extention Project Overview First production license - PL 001 The Balder FPU started up 1999 Current production back on 2004 level with the Balder Phase 3 project Two phases of Life Extension program of work MOEB Phase 1 - Sanctioned in Extension of PDO end date from 2011 to 2019 Phase 2 - Sanctioned in Extension from 2019 to 2025 Two key Phase 2 projects will executed in 2016 New gas lift distribution system, including a new subsea manifold structure Replacement of a gas injection riser Key project drivers Minimize production impact Maximize use of spare equipment sitting in storage 3
Balder Subsea Operations scope for 2016 Balder Gas Lift Repair (BGLR) project Installation of subsea gas lift manifold with jumpers to distribute gas to B-sites and C-site. Use spare equipment; WI riser from a P&A'd well, 6" spare riser as jumper, 2 x 100m 2.5" jumpers No new riser pull-ins, or replacement of productions bundles (8" x 2.5" + Umbilical) D1 Riser Replacement Like-for-like replacement of gas injection riser; utilize spare riser in storage Shutdown of the Balder FPU to perform the riser lowering and pull-in operations Bend stiffener fixation unlock/lock functional uncertainty; Plan for a contingency air-diving operation 4
Diving Operations as part of the projects Saturation diving operations required for disconnection and connection of flexible flowlines subsea (~127m ) Potential Air Diving Scope Contingency air diving under the turret for the riser replacement to operate Bending Stiffener Fixation clamps Saturation Diving Scope 5
Decommissioning Challenges & Opportunities Decommissioning marked will be increasing, also within the Subsea Operations area Decommissioning of Floating Assets (Currently 17 FPSO/FSO on NCS) Decommissioning of Subsea Assets (Manifolds, protection structures etc.) FPSO riser recovery and de-mooring may introduce new challenges Old systems - may require manual intervention (under turret) Systems designed for installation and pull-in, and not for decommissioning Access limitations may require confined space diving (in Turret) Long durations of offshore operations (3-4 months) for full field scope Opportunity for new & smart solutions Engineer out diving in high risk areas (Turret, and confined spaces) Decommission while operating (i.e. utilize two seasons) Minimize length and costs of operating FPSO after production has been shut-in 6
