3 Slide 3 - Two Part Training This training series will be completed in two parts. The first part is this computer-aided training. The second part will be a webinar discussion. At the webinar you will be discussing the ideas presented here and how you decide to use them. Page 3 of 25

4 Slide 4 - Objectives The objectives for this training are that by the end of the CAT you will: Recognize the value of the core conditions for building trust-based relationships and the DCS practice model in creating a greater DCS child and family team to fulfill the mission, vision, and values of DCS. Identify the four core conditions and the five parts of the practice model. And given a situation identify how the core conditions and the DCS practice model could be used to enhance the functioning of the DCS child and family team. All of these objectives are important in helping DCS fulfill its mission, vision and values. Page 4 of 25

5 Slide 5 - Parallel Process The Department of Child Services recognizes that to be successful everyone in the organization needs to be working from the same model. When everyone in all levels of the organization are using the same philosophy to interact and make decisions in their area it is called using the Parallel Process. This means that the same level of respect is shown to every person on the DCS team as well as to our clients and partners. Page 5 of 25

7 Slide 7-4 Core Conditions The foundation of a team is the relationships developed by its members. DCS believes in using the Core Conditions to build trust-based relationships. The four core conditions are Respect, Genuineness, Empathy, and Professionalism. Page 7 of 25

11 Slide 11 - Benefits of Core Conditions When you use the core conditions you will build relationships that are grounded in trust, communication will be improved between team members, you will have a better understanding of the people you work with and they will understand you better too. 14 Slide 14 - Practice Model Overview DCS strives to be a child welfare agency that reflects it mission and beliefs about protecting and serving the children and families of Indiana. DCS recognizes that lasting change and better outcomes can only be achieved if the work is grounded in strong principles and values. The DCS practice model provides a framework to direct everyday actions and decision making. Through the parallel process this model directs the actions of all members of DCS. Page 14 of 25

17 Slide 17 - CFTM The Child and Family Team Meeting is a tool used by Family Case Managers to bring together resources to support and serve the child and family in achieving safety, permanency, stability, and well-being. Page 17 of 25

21 Slide 21 - Benefits of PM When you use the DCS practice model each person you work with gets recognized for their strengths, including you. The practice model is a team approach, meaning everyone has a shared responsibility for getting the job done, everyone on the team has input, and decisions are made with the long-term in mind. When everyone uses the practice model we are all approaching our shared responsibilities with the same philosophy. Page 21 of 25

22 Slide 22 - DCS Goal 1 The goal of DCS is to fulfill its mission of protecting children from abuse and neglect through partnerships with families and communities to provide safe, nurturing, and stable homes. DCS does this by developing trust-based relationships using the core conditions And by using the practice model. Page 22 of 25
