4 2. Principles of working Filters serie ML are suitable to be used for the water treatment in residential and industrial applications. They can be safety used for drinking water, since all materials are suitable to get in touch with food stuff. The filtering element is a cartridge made with a AISI304 stainless steel net (100 μm) welded on a supporting bracket. The maximum allowed pressure drop is 0.8 bar (80 kpa), after that it is required to clean the filtering element. The common cleaning of the filtering element by mean of backwashing assures the complete removal of the solids the water has carried and have set down along the filtering net. The filtering element is completely cleaned by mean of a special Turboclean impeller, that throws pressurized and well-sized water jets against the filtering net. This type of filter is NOT suitable to trap colloids like slime, mud, clay, sludge; these substances clog the filtering element very quickly, they are very difficult to be removed from and can damage seriously the filtering element itself Semi automatic filters serie ML When the pressure drop is approx 0,8 bar (80 kpa), it is required to clean the filtering cartridge, by operating manually, as explained at the following paragraph Automatic filters series ML/AT and ML/AP Filters are complete with an automatic cleaning system allowing to drain the dirties off the filter. The automatic system is controlled by a logic programmer, programmable as described at the following paragraph 6. The automatic system consists mainly of two valves and an internal mechanism. The first valve is controlled by an electromechanical system to open and close. The second valve is installed for safety sake, controlled by a coil. The safety valve is opened only during the washing of the cartridge and closes even if there is only a power failure. Hence, if the electromechanical system, for any reason (power failure, mechanical damage or else) does not close, the drain flow is blocked at the end of washing of the cartridge by the safety valve. The internal mechanism, controlled by the electromechanical system as well, features the washing of the filtering cartridge by using the water itself. s.r.l. - ITALY Page 4 of 16 ml_mi-r1.doc -r1

How to remove packaging and move the filter The filter can be moved using hands only. During moving, pay attention in order to avoid any damage to delicate parts. The shipping packaging contains : n. 1 filter n. 2 pressure gauges n. 2 pressure transducers 0-10 bar, 0-10 V, connection 1/4" (serie ML/AP only) n. 1 electronic panel (serie ML/AT and ML/AP only) n. 1 spanner to dismantle the bowl The pressure gauges and the pressure transducers are packed in a carton box, included in the package of the filter; they must be screwed in their own thread holes, as shown in the picture Hydraulic connections Connect the inlet and outlet fittings of the filter to the line of water to be filtered. The arrow marked on the filter shows the water stream. It is recommended to instal the filter with a by-pass line (two shut-off valves and one by-pass valve), in order to avoid any interruption in water supplying during maintenance operations. Complete the drain line to a floor drain, using DN50-sized tubing to assure correct drain of backwashing water. The vertical part of the tubing must be removable in order to allow to dismantle the bowl during special maintenance operations. s.r.l. - ITALY Page 6 of 16 ml_mi-r1.doc -r1

8 5. Washing of semi-automatic filters (serie ML) For semiautomatic filters ML, the washing of the cartridge is featured as follows : - rotate clockwise the cleaning knob until rotation is blocked by a mechanical stop. Keep this position for approx 4 seconds. A plenty flow of water will come out from the drain. - turn again the filter on service position, by rotating counterclockwise the cleaning knob, until rotation is blocked by a mechanical stop. 6. Automatic filters (series ML/AT e ML/AP) : end cycle and washing For automatic filters ML/AT the washing runs according to time schedule (end cycle by time). For automatic filters ML/AT the washing runs when one of the two end-cycles is reached (time schedule or pressure drop) To set the regeneration by time only (regardless of pressure drop), proceed as follows : - set the parameter B19 on OFF To set the regeneration by pressure drop only (regardless of time), proceed as follows : - delete any programmed regeneration by time control - enter as max allowable pressure drop (end-cycle) the desired value (standard =80) 6.1. End cycle at time (all models) The electronic micro-processor programmer allows to run the regeneration according to time schedule, at pre-set time and day (max 3 regeneration per day) End cycle at pressure drop (models ML/AP only) The unit is equipped with 2 pressure sensors plumbed on inlet and outlet line of the filters; the sensors gauge the correspondent pressure (IN/OUT) and therefore also the differential pressure; when the pressure drop across the filtering cartridge reaches the value of 0.8 bar (80 kpa), the end-cycle is driven. During normal service, possible peaks of pressure could cause a wrong indication of reached max allowable pressure drop; in order to avoid that, the end-cycle driving is delayed of an adjustable time. Hence the max pressure drop must remain for all the time of adjusted delay, to drive the end-cycle Manual start (all models) The washing can also be started manually at any time, out of any automatic programme, by keeping pushed for 3 consecutive seconds the button START. When the manually started washing is completed, the unit will continue to work according to previous programming. The pushing of manual start of the washing, while it is already running, has not any effect Inhibit of the washing It is possibile to inhibit the automatic starting of washing by mean of an external contact, using the input I2 of the programmer, as described at paragraph "Electrical wiring connection". Hence, when the end-cycle is reached, the filter will remain on WASHING REQUIRED until the inhibit signal is switched off. Even if the inhibit signal is still ON, it is also possible to start manually the regeneration, as above explained. s.r.l. - ITALY Page 8 of 16 ml_mi-r1.doc -r1

10 7.2. Signals on the display of the programmer The report messages enabled by the programmer are visualized on the display one at a time, with a determinate priority. The buttons and are used to scroll the messages. The button is used to turn back to service visualizations. The messages that can be visualized are : "P IN" "P OUT" "DP" "SET" "RINSE" "WAITING FOR RINSE" "ALARM HIGH PRESSURE DROP" These visualizations are always available. They show, respectively, (values are expressed in bar) : current inlet pressure current outlet pressure current differential pressure value max differential pressure value to drive end-cycle These visualizations are available only when the washing of filter is running. This visualization appears when the filter need washing, but it cannot run due to the inhibit signal (input I2). This visualization is available only when, at the end of washing, the pressure drop is still higher than the max allowable value. The notice of the day and time when the alarm is driven, is also visualized. The alarm inhibits the running of further washings, and can be re-set by pushing the button RESET. s.r.l. - ITALY Page 10 of 16 ml_mi-r1.doc -r1
