2 2 Baker Maric Flow Control Valves Ever since water has been piped there has been a definite need for a practical, accurate, self cleaning and inexpensive form of automatic flow control. The Baker Maric Flow Control Valve was developed to fill all these requirements and more. The Baker Maric Flow Control Valve has been used successfully in many countries since 1960 to give a CONSTANT FLOW irrespective of changing water pressures. The initial valve cost is quickly recovered by reducing wastage of a valuable natural resource. In the South African Mining Industry the Baker Maric is used exclusively as a water saving device. The Wafer pattern fits in between flanges and is totally tamper proof and can handle dirty service water. The Baker Maric Flow Control consists of: A precision moulded flexible control ring A precision machined recess to accept the control ring. Body manufactured to rigid engineering standards. PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION The flexible control ring is made from Nitrile Butadine Rubber meticulously compounded to pass exacting flow tests. The body of the valve may be constructed of various materials including Brass, PVC and Stainless Steel. Accuracy: 10 % HIGH PRESSURE Flexible ring rolls down tapered seat under pressure decreasing orifice, giving constant flow. LOW PRESSURE Flexible ring in normal position. Maximum orifice. IDENTIFICATION All valves are stamped with rate of flow in litres per minute, and an arrow indicating direction of flow. PROPERTIES Self cleaning - the flexing of the control ring during operation prevents the build up of mineral salts and rust flakes. Odour free, taste free and non toxic. Life expectancy - in excess of ten years Automatic - responds instantly to changes in water pressure. Self regulating - install and forget. Economical - low initial cost is quickly recovered. Compact - easily installed Maximum operating temperature of 75ºC. Standard maximum operating pressure 16 bar. ACROSS VALVE Question: What will be the head loss across the Baker Valve? Answer: At least 140 kpa, or between 140 and kpa if the system is designed and operating correctly. This is because the function of our PRECISION range of valves is to control the flow when P.D. across the valve is within this range. Therefore, to achieve full rated flow, (accurate to within +/- 10%), the installation must provide for inlet to be at least 140 kpa above outlet pressure. To Calculate Headloss: Assume valve is controlling flow as required. Determine what pressure will be at the inlet, and what pressure will be at the outlet. The P.D. will then simply be the difference between inlet and outlet above. Should this work out to be less than 140 or greater than kpa, then this PRECISION valve will not provide full flow and the installation will either require altering, or the use of Low Pressure Valves ( kpa) or High Pressure Valves ( kPa).
