3 INSTALLATION Before Mounting Adjustments If a connection to Port 4, 6, 7, or 8 (Fig. 2) is required, remove the self-tapping screw from Port 8 and use the screw to tap the appropriate port. Install Barb Fitting and O-ring fingertight in the appropriate port. Reinstall the screw in Port 8 if not used. If a remote restriction is used for the primary sensor, block the internal air supply (adjustable after gage installation, but easier to adjust before installation): a. Loosen the screw one turn (Fig. 3) and rotate the switchplate (light grey) 90 degrees counterclockwise to the sensor supply blocked position. b. Retighten the screw and check for leaks. If a leak is found, reposition the switchplate. NOTES: 1. The switchplate screw must be tightened securely to prevent a false inoperative sensor condition. 2. The compensation sensor on Port requires an external restricted main air supply. Device Mounting Mark and drill two mounting holes for No. 8 fasteners using the Controller as a template or the dimensions in Figure 1. Mount the Controller with two No. 8 fasteners. Connections Push the tubing on the barb fittings according to the job drawings. See Figure 2 for port locations. Install the gage or plug: a. If a gage is not used, tighten the gage plugs finger-tight. If a gage is used, remove the plug and by hand, screw the gage into the gage port three turns. b. A soft rubber, factory-installed seal allows the plug or gage to be rotated (for alignment) without leakage. c. If the gage is not oriented for correct viewing, rotate the gage counterclockwise until correct. 4 Negative (Winter) to Positive (Summer) Compensation (RP920B and D only) Change Loosen the four screws (Fig. ) on the Compensation Module. Remove the module. Rotate the module and its gasket 180 degrees, and reinstall. Ensure that the notch on the module lines up with the proper indication on the Controller label (base). Retighten the four screws. Recalibrate, if required. Check the position of the gasket tab (Fig. 6, front). Loosen the three screws on the Switch Block Module and remove the module. Remove the gasket and note the letters (B, B+, C, C+) embossed on the back of the module. Rotate and/or flip the gasket until the gasket position matches the functions desired (Fig. 6, back). When correct, only the desired letter shows. Install the gasket on the back of the Switch Block Module, reinstall the module, and tighten the three screws. Connect the integral action cut-off switching components to Ports 6 and 7, if used. Gage Function and Intergral Action Cut-off (RP920C and D) Adjustment The position of the gasket located under the Switch Block Module (Fig. 2) determines the function of the field-installed gage on the Switch Block Module and determines if integral action cut-off function is enabled or disabled. See Table 1 for factory and field settings. All devices manufactured in Arlington Heights are supplied with the gasket in the B (Branch Line Gage) position. Table 1. Switch Block Gasket Position. 5 Setpoint (W 1 ) Adjustment The Setpoint (W 1 ) knob is embossed with a 0 to percent scale which correlates with the values listed in Table 2. Scaleplate overlays are included to directly match various sensor ranges. Three methods of controlling Setpoint (W 1 ) are available: Local Setpoint Setpoint (W 1 ) adjusted directly on the Controller. Adjustments: If a scaleplate overlay is used, insert the overlay between the Setpoint (W 1 ) knob and the transparent overlay retainer. Note the position of the key and noncoded scaleplate overlay notch (Fig. 7). Adjust the Setpoint (W 1 ), according to the job drawings, using the Setpoint (W 1 ) knob. Calibrate only if the control point deviates excessively from the Setpoint (W 1 ), taking into consideration the throttling range. Remote Setpoint Setpoint (W 1 ) controlled from 0 to percent of primary sensor span from a remote 3 to 1 psi (21 to 104 kpa) bleed-type signal. Adjustments: Adjust the Setpoint (W 1 ) knob to percent (Fig. 7) or to the maximum limit to be applied to the remote setpoint. Install the Barb Fitting and O-ring to Port 8 and connect to a bleed-type remote setpoint device (e.g., SP970) and a remote setpoint gage. Control Point Adjustment (CPA) Available on specific models. Local (baseline) Setpoint (W 1 ) adjusted on the Controller and can be varied ±1 percent of the primary sensor span from a remote 3 to 1 psi (21 to 104 kpa) signal. Adjustments: Pipe CPA to Port 9. Select the proper scaleplate overlay, if used. Note the position of key on the Setpoint (W 1 ) knob and the non-coded scaleplate overlay notch (Fig. 7) for Controllers with U.S.A. labels. Controllers (RP920B, C, D) with German labels must use R coded scaleplate overlay notch when using a CPA device. Insert the scaleplate overlay between the Setpoint (W 1 ) knob and the transparent overlay retainer. Adjust the Setpoint (W 1 ) according to the job drawings using the Setpoint (W 1 ) knob. Fig. 7. (37.0) (37.78) 103/ CALLIBRATION Sensors Sensors need no separate calibration as they are calibrated to the system. Systems All RP920 Controllers are factory calibrated. It is intended that the Controller be adjusted to the field-calculated values listed on the job drawing. This approach to Controller startup will be adequate for most systems. If it is determined that closer calibration is required, use the following procedures: NOTE: The Controller design allows all adjustments to be made independent of each other. For example, changing the Proportional Band (X p ) setting does not affect the calibration of the Setpoint (W 1 ), the Compensation Startpoint (W c ), or the Authority (A c ) adjustment. If a CPA device is used, apply 9 psi (62 kpa) to Port 9. If a remote setpoint is used, block Port 8. RP920A System Install a temporary receiver gage (matching the primary sensor) or a 0 to 30 psi (0 to 207 kpa) gage in the primary sensor gage port if one is not permanently installed or install a tee gage into the sensor line (Port 3). Apply mainline pressure (MLP) to the system. Install a 0 to 30 psi (0 to 207 kpa) gage in the branchline pressure (BLP) test tap (moisten the needle before inserting). If the sensor reading is greater than ±10 percent of the expected setpoint, remove the sensor tubing from Port 3 and apply a pressure equivalent (expected setpoint) using a CCT816B Calibration Unit. NOTE: For the most accurate calibration, the actual measured variable at the sensor must be ±10 percent of the expected setpoint. With the sensor at or near the desired control point, adjust the Setpoint (W1) knob until the BLP equals the center of the controlled device throttling range, e.g., 8 psi ( kpa) for a 3 to 13 psi (21 to 90 kpa) range device. If the Setpoint (W 1 ) and primary sensor gage do not match, remove the Setpoint (W 1 ) knob and replace it so the setpoint matches the actual primary sensor gage reading. Readjust the Setpoint (W 1 ) to the desired setpoint, if required. Calibration is complete. RP920B Systems Install a receiver gage matching the compensation sensor or a 0 to 30 psi (0 to 207 kpa) gage in Port as shown in Figure 10. NOTE: If the Controller is setup for a compensation gage in the right gage port, plug Port and use the existing gage

13 THE GAGE RANGE MUST MATCH THE RANGE OF THE FEEDING PORT FULL COMP M PRIMARY SETPOINT (W 1 ) COMP START PRIMARY C109 Fig. 10. Piping for RP920B Compensation Startpoint (W c ) Setting. Install a 0 to 30 psi (0 to 207 kpa) gage in BLP test tap or in BLP gage port if one is not permanently installed. Apply MLP to the system. Adjust the Authority knob to minimum. Adjust the Compensation Startpoint (W c ) knob until the receiver gage (Port ) reads the pressure equivalent of the Compensation Startpoint (W c ) (Fig. 11 or 12). If the Compensation Startpoint (W c ) and desired startpoint do not match, remove the knob and replace it so they do match. The Compensation Startpoint (W c ) is now calibrated. NOTE: The response of the receiver gage may be slow (up to one minute). The Controller is not defective under these conditions. Set up the CCT816B Calibration Unit (Fig. 13) to connect to Port 3 (primary sensor). NOTE: Sensors are not connected. Apply a pressure equivalent of the primary sensor value corresponding to the Compensation (Comp) Start on the reset schedule (Fig. 11 or 12). Adjust the Setpoint (W 1 ) knob until the BLP equals the expected pressure of the controlled device at Comp Start conditions. If needed, remove the Setpoint (W 1 ) knob and replace it so the setpoint matches the primary sensor value at Comp Start. The Setpoint (W 1 ) is now calibrated. Set up the CCT816B Calibration Unit (Fig. 14) to connect to Port 3 (primary sensor) and Port (compensation sensor). Apply sensor input pressures equivalent to the full compensation on the building schedule. Adjust the Authority (Ac) knob until the BLP equals the expected pressure of the controlled device at full compensation conditions. Calibration is complete. Changing Compensation Startpoint (W c ) or Setpoint (W 1 ) affects only the one corresponding value of the reset schedule, while changing Authority (A c ) affects only the slope of the reset schedule. NOTE: See Compensation Startpoint (W c ) Adjustment (RP920B and D only) for more information. Remove the CCT816B Calibration Unit and pipe sensors.
