2 Appendix DSAT TecRec DIVE PLANNING CHECKLIST A Good Diver s Main Objective Is To Live Good Gas Required volumes for all gases determined. Required reserves for all gases determined. Actual volumne in all cylinders calculated and compared to required volumes. All gases personally analyzed by diver immediately before dive. All cylinders properly marked. Gases compatible among team mates. All valves and regulators tested. Turn pressure(s) and gas matching (if required) determined. Gas loss or failure contingency plans Diver s Decompression Decompression and contingency decompression requirements compared to gas volumes available. All divers have two means for determining decompression requirements (computers, backup tables, depth gauge/timer). All divers have means for determining contingency decompression requirements. Main Mission Mission evaluated as reasonable to accomplish within dive. Team understands and agrees to mission. All team members qualified for their roles in mission. Mission has been simplified as much as possible. Mission will not interfere with aborting the dive at any time. Mission has been rehearsed land/shallow water if practicable. All team members agree that the primary mission is to return unhurt. Objective Oxygen No gas will be breathed at higher than PO2 1.4 (working phase) or 1.6 (deco phase). For gas-switch, extended no-stop dives, the gas and PO2 for the upper level is 1.4 ata or less. OTUs and CNS clock calculated and within accepted limits. Air breaks planned, if appropriate. Is Inert Gas Narcosis For planned depth and objective, narcosis will not be a significant factor. Mission simplified to accommodate narcosis and the conditions. Team members experienced with depth and conditions. Team members prepared to immediately abort the dive if narcosis becomes a factor. To Thermal Exposure suits adequate for temperature and planned duration, plus a reasonable contingency duration. If using argon in dry suit, ample argon supply for dive. Dry suit seals, zippers and valves checked and in good working order. Team prepared for major dry suit failure, if dry suits used. Live Logistics All team members know respective roles and what they will provide. Surface and underwater support (if used) know roles and qualified to perform Team knows where/when to meet, who is leading the dive/project. All team members know where to locate first aid/oxygen and know how to use it. All team members know how to contact emergency medical care/rescue. In water emergency protocols established. Divers equipped with emergency equipment specific to environment (e.g. EPIRB, drift kit.) padi.com A-7
