2 Training Description: The hazardous-area circuits 'float' i.e. is not referenced to earth via the interface unit. This allows the user to take advantage of the inherent earth fault rejection, possibly reinforced with an earth leakage detector (no-fail), or alternatively, by earthing the circuit at one point, the user can produce a preferred mode of failure (fail-safe). The isolation of the hazardous area, safe area and power supply circuits from each other leads to a high degree of operational flexibility, and reduces any interaction between earths on the circuits, and removes the need for a detailed knowledge of the internal circuits of the safe area apparatus. Intrinsic safety is a technique for ensuring that the electrical energy available in a circuit is too low to ignite the most easily ignitable mixture of gas and air. The ignition mechanisms considered are electrical, by spark energy, and thermal, by hot surfaces. The design of the circuit and equipment is intended to ensure safety both in normal use and in all probable fault conditions. Among the faults considered is the possibility of unacceptable power being fed through from the safe-area apparatus. Consequently, intrinsic safety is essentially a system concept in which the apparatus in the hazardous area, the apparatus in the safe area. And the combination of these two must all be considered. Install the Intrinsic all safe barriers according to UK code of practices Identify is earthing cable specification for IS Installation.
