Radiation Hazard, Biohazard, or Toxic Chemical Hazard: Use only qualified personnel for the installation of plumbing and ventilation fixtures, and make sure that all installations adhere to local regulations. Caution: Do not connect the vent fitting on the drain vessel directly to a negative flow vent. The additional vacuum created by such a connection could trip the source exhaust pump pressure switch, falsely indicating that the source exhaust pump is working when it is not, and enable the instrument electronics. 14 of 26
15 Standard Requirements: Roughing pump: one negative flow vent with 3.2 cm (1 1/4 in) o.d. (outer diameter) smooth fitting located within 1.5 m (5 ft) of the roughing pump. Position the exhaust vent approximately 1 meter above the floor. Source exhaust drain vessel supplied by AB SCIEX: one negative flow vent with 3.2 cm (1 1/4 in) o.d. You also require sufficient length of tubing with 1.3 cm (1/2 in) i.d. (inner diameter) to fit onto the source exhaust drain vessel and loosely couple it to the vent. The laboratory ventilation device should produce an average airflow velocity of 30 linear m/min (100 linear ft/min). The actual amount of airflow rate depends on the cross sectional area of the duct and can be calculated from the following formula: Airflow rate = Velocity Area (cross sectional area of the duct) Make sure the ventilation fixtures installation follows local regulation and biohazard regulations. You must supply exhaust ventilation as required by local regulations. System Exhaust Pump WARNING! Radiation Hazard, Biohazard, Toxic Chemical Hazard, or Reactive Chemical Hazard: Make sure that the source exhaust system is connected to an external fume hood or an external vent, and be sure to use it to remove sample vapor exhaust and pump exhaust from the laboratory environment. Operating the mass spectrometer without adequate ventilation may result in the release of hazardous vapors into the laboratory environment. WARNING! Radiation Hazard, Biohazard, or Toxic Chemical Hazard: Make sure that the laboratory is equipped with an appropriate ventilation system. Ventilation of the laboratory is vital for operator safety. Additional Requirements: Minimize the length and number of bends in the ducting system. Use smooth stainless steel tubing instead of flexible tubing to reduce ventilation system friction loss or drag. Use 45 elbows to turn corners. 15 of 26
16 1 2 3 Figure 2-5 Vent connections Item Description 1 Connection to vent. 2 Connection to roughing pump exhaust. Do not let the tubing sag because it might become blocked. 3 Drain bottle (Drain bottle shown at the back of the instrument to show connection points. The drain bottle is located at the side of the instrument when installed.) Do not let the tubing sag because it might become blocked. Venting Device Requirements It is recommended that the blower used for the exhaust be equipped with an indicator light located near the instrument to indicate to the operator when the blower is on. The length of the duct that enters the blower must be a straight length of at least ten times the duct s diameter. Equip the outlet end of the system with a backdraft damper and an exhaust stack. Keep the exhaust outlet away from open windows or inlet vents. Make up air must be in the same quantity as the air exhausted by the system. An airtight lab causes an efficiency loss in the exhaust system. 16 of 26
17 Network and Computers Make sure that your network or IT specialist is available to install your security software while the AB SCIEX FSE is present.
