The watch s auto light switch autoatically turns on the backlight when you angle the watch towards your face. The auto light switch ust be turned on (indicated by the auto light switch on indicator) for it to operate. Note The electro-luinescent panel loses illuinating power after very long use. The illuination provided by the backlight ay be hard to see when viewed under direct sunlight. The watch will eit an audible sound whenever the display is illuinated. This is caused by a transforer that vibrates when the EL panel lights up. It does not indicate alfunction of the watch. The backlight autoatically turns off whenever an alar sounds. To anually turn on the backlight In any ode, press L to illuinate the display for about two seconds. The above operation turns on the backlight regardless of the current auto light switch setting. Moving the watch to a position that is parallel to the ground and then tilting it towards you ore than 40 degrees causes the backlight to light. The backlight turns off in about two seconds, even if you keep the watch pointed towards your face. The backlight ay not light if the face of the watch is ore than 15 degrees off the parallel as shown below. Static electricity or agnetic force can interfere with proper operation of the auto light switch. If the backlight does not light, try oving the watch back to the starting position (parallel with the ground) and then tilt it back toward you again. If this does not work, drop your ar all the way down so it hangs at your side, and then bring it back up again. Under certain conditions the backlight ay not light until about one second or less after turn the face of the watch towards you. This does not necessarily indicate alfunction of the backlight.

In order to protect against running down the battery, the auto light switch is autoatically turned off approxiately two or three hours after you turn it on. Repeat the above procedure to turn the auto light switch back on if you want. The ark next to -LIGHT is on the display in all odes while the auto light switch is turned on. Warning! Never try to read your watch when ountain clibing or hiking in areas that are dark or in areas with poor footing. oing so is dangerous and can result in serious personal injury. Year ay of week Month ay L M indicator Seconds Hour : Minutes TIMEKEEING FUNTION In addition to tie and date settings, the Tiekeeping Mode also lets you adjust the contrast of the display. Tiekeeping Mode tie is linked with World Tie Mode tie, so be sure to select the city code for your current location before setting the tie in the Tiekeeping Mode. Setting the city code, tie, and date 1. In the Tiekeeping Mode, press until the Tiekeeping screen appears. 2. Hold down until the seconds digits starts to flash on the display. The seconds digits flash because they are selected. t this tie, the city code currently set for the Tiekeeping Mode appears in the upper part of the display in place of the day of the week. 3. ress to change the selection in the following sequence. While the seconds digits are selected (flashing), press to reset the seconds to 00 and L to toggle between the 12-hour and 24-hour forats. If you press while the seconds count is in the range of 30 to 59, the seconds are reset to 00 and 1 is added to the inutes. If the seconds count is in the range of 00 to 29, the inutes count is unchanged. With the 12-hour forat, the (M) indicator appears to the left of the hour digits for ties in the range of noon to 11:59 p and the (M) indicator appears to the left of the hour digits for ties in the range of idnight to 11:59 a. The 24-hour forat is indicated by 24 on the display. Ties are shown in the range of 00:00 to 23: ress until the city code is flashing on the display. 6. Use and to scroll through the city codes until you find the one you want to set as your hoe city. scrolls forward, while scrolls back through the city codes. Holding down either button scrolls through the city codes at high speed. See the ITY OE TLE for a coplete list of available codes. 7. ress until the hour digits are flashing on display. 8. ress to increase the setting or to decrease it. Holding down either button changes the setting at high speed. 9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 to set the inutes, year, onth, and day. 10.fter you ake the settings you want, press to return to the Tiekeeping Mode (Tiekeeping screen). The day of the week is autoatically set in accordance with the date. The date can be set within the range of January 1, 1995 to eceber 31, hanging the Tiekeeping Mode s city code also causes the tie to change to the current tie in tie zone where the city is located. If you do not operate any button for a few inutes while a selection is flashing, the flashing stops and the watch goes back to the Tiekeeping Mode autoatically. Holding down while in the Tiekeeping Mode (Tiekeeping screen) displays the currently selected city code in place of the day of the week. Switching between standard tie and daylight saving tie aylight Saving Tie (ST), which is also soeties called suer tie, advances the tie one hour, as is the custo in soe areas during the suer. The ST indicator appears on the display to indicate that daylight saving tie is turned on. djusting the display contrast Graphic area 1. In the Tiekeeping Mode, press until the Tiekeeping screen appears. 2. Hold down until the seconds digits starts to flash on the display. The seconds digits flash because they are selected. t this tie, dots appear in the graphic area of the display to indicate the current contrast setting. Every two dots represent one contrast level. 3. ress seven ties until the NT indicator appears on the display. 4. ressing akes the iages on the display darker, while akes the lighter. isplay contrast can be adjusted to one of six levels. Two dots in the graphic area indicate the lightest contrast setting (Level 1), while 12 dots indicates the darkest setting (Level 6). 5. fter you ake the settings you want, press to return to the Tiekeeping Mode (Tiekeeping screen). ROMETER FUNTIONS This watch uses a pressure sensor to easure air pressure. This sensor can be calibrated. Iportant! The baroeter that is built into this watch easures changes in air pressure, which you can then apply to your own weather predictions. It is not intended for use as a precision instruent in official weather prediction or reporting applications. Exaple baroeter applications efore going ountain clibing, you can take readings to find out the probable upcoing weather. You can predict the weather for golf or other outdoor activities. bout baroetric easureents The baroeter autoatically takes easureents every two hours (starting fro idnight), regardless of what ode you are in. aroetric pressure easureents are also taken every five seconds for three inutes after you display the Tiekeeping Mode s aroetric pressure/teperature screen. The last easureent result, along with the current teperature is displayed in the aroetric pressure/teperature screen. Understanding the baroeter screen 1. Use to enter the Tiekeeping Mode. 2. ress to display the aroetric ressure/teperature screen. If you do not press any button for 10 or 11 hours, the watch autoatically returns to the Tiekeeping screen. Teperature (aroetric ressure/teperature) 1 The baroetric pressure graph shows the baroetric readings for the past 26 hours. The flashing point on the right of the display is the point for the last easureent. 2 Soe countries call this unit hecto-pascal (ha), while other countries call it illibars (b). The noral display will return as soon as the pressure returns within the allowable range. Using the baroetric pressure graph hanges in baroetric pressure are caused by changes in the weather and teperature. The following shows how to interpret the data that appears on the baroetric pressure graph. Note that if there are sudden changes in weather or teperature, the graph line of past easureents ay run off the top or botto of the display. The entire graph will becoe visible once baroetric conditions stabilize. rising graph generally eans better weather. falling graph generally eans deteriorating weather. If you do not operate any button for a few inutes while the baroetric pressure digits are flashing, the flashing stops and the watch goes back to the aroetric ressure/teperature screen. bout teperature easureents Teperature easureents are taken autoatically every five inutes, regardless of what ode the watch is in. Measured teperature values can be viewed in the Tiekeeping or ltieter Mode. Teperature easureents are taken every five seconds for the first three inutes after you display the Tiekeeping Mode s aroetric ressure/teperature screen, or after you enter the ltieter Mode. fter that, teperature easureents are taken every five inutes. Teperature easureent data can be recalled along with altitude easureent data. Understanding the teperature display 1. Use to enter the Tiekeeping Mode. 2. ress to display the aroetric ressure/teperature screen. If you do not press any button for 10 or 11 hours, the watch autoatically returns to the Tiekeeping screen. If noticeable error is found in the teperature readings produced by the watch, you can adjust it to correct the error. Iportant! Incorrectly calibrating the teperature easureent of this watch can result in incorrect readings. arefully read the following before doing anything. opare the readings produced by the watch with those of another reliable, accurate theroeter. If adjustent is required, reove the watch fro your wrist and wait for 20 or 30 inutes to give the teperature of the watch tie to stabilize. To calibrate the teperature ha b 1. In the Tiekeeping Mode, use to display the baroetric pressure and teperature. 2. Hold down until the display clears. OFF or the teperature value should be flashing on the display. The OFF indicator appears when the factory setting is being used for the calibration. 3. Each press of increases the displayed teperature by 0.1 while pressing decreases it. Holding down either button changes the value at high speed. ressing and at the sae tie returns to the OFF display. 4. fter calibrating the teperature, press to return to the aroetric ressure/teperature screen. If you do not operate any button for a few inutes while the teperature digits are flashing, the flashing stops and the watch goes back to the aroetric ressure/teperature screen. TREKKING OUNTER FUNTIONS THERMOMETER FUNTIONS built-in teperature sensor easures teperature and shows the easured value on the display. The theroeter can be calibrated. Iportant! Teperature easureents are affected by your body teperature (while you are wearing the watch), direct sunlight, and oisture. To achieve a ore accurate teperature easureent, reove the watch fro your wrist, place it in a well ventilated location out of direct sunlight, and wipe off all oisture fro the case. It takes approxiately 20 to 30 inutes for the case of the watch to reach the actual surrounding teperature. Graphic area k Elapsed tie (hours, inutes, seconds) Steps istance The trekking counter uses a vibration sensor to count how any steps you take. It also records the aount of tie you spend walking. fter you input the length of your stride, it also autoatically calculates and displays the distance you have covered. Iportant! The watch ust be hanging free in order for the vibration sensor to work, so the trekking counter cannot count the nuber of steps you take if the watch is on your wrist. e sure to wear the watch on your waist. Note that the accuracy of data easured by the trekking counter can be affected when you are walking on sand or other soft ground, on a steep upgrade, on a steep downgrade, or on stairs. e sure to take care not to drop the watch while walking. To iprove the accuracy of easured data, be sure to turn off the trekking counter whenever you are taking a break or stop walking for any other reason.

Hold down until the stride length value flashes on the display. 3. Each press of increases the value by 1, while decreases it. Holding down either button changes the value at high speed. You can set a stride length in the range of 20 to 200 c. 4. fter you finish aking the setting, press to return to the Trekking ounter Mode. If you do not operate any button for a few inutes while a selection is flashing, the flashing stops and the watch goes back to the Trekking ounter Mode autoatically. Using the trekking counter 1. ttach the watch correctly to your belt. See N LI for details. The procedure you should use depends on the type of band (cloth, leather, etal) that coes with your watch. 2. ress while in the Trekking ounter Mode to start the trekking counter operation. Elapsed tie, nuber of steps, and distance covered are all shown on the display while the trekking counter is operating. 3. ress to teporarily stop trekking counter operation. You can use to stop and re-start trekking counter operation as any ties as you like. Each tie you press to re-start, the elapsed tie, nuber of steps and distance covered values start fro point they were at when you press to stop trekking counter operation. The trekking counter operation continues internally even if you change to another ode. If you change the stride length setting while a trekking counter operation is in progress causes the trekking counter operation to pause. ressing resues the operation. 4. fter you are finished using the trekking counter, press to stop operation and then press to clear all of the values to zero. The trekking counter is not intended for use as an all-day pedoeter. Trekking counter operation requires considerable battery power, so be sure to press to stop its operation after you are through using it. Next, hold down for about two seconds to return to the Tiekeeping Mode. To protect against preaturely running down the battery, trekking counter operation turns off autoatically and the watch eits a 2-second beep to alert you if the trekking counter is left on for ore than 24 hours. Note that easured values up to the point that the trekking counter turns off are retained, so you can start the next operation fro the displayed values. While the trekking counter is operating, the graphic area of the display indicates the nuber of steps you have taken. The first block flashes during steps 0 through 999. t step 1,000, the first block stays on and the second block flashes fro steps 1,000 to 1,999. This continues block-by-block until step 9,999. t step 10,000, the first block flashes and the process starts again. The display below that the nuber of steps is in the range of 4,000 to 4,999 (or 14,000 to 14,999, 24,000 to 24,999, etc.). To deterine the height of a tall building, set the reference altitude to 0 on the ground floor. Note, however, that if the building is pressurized or air conditioned, you ay not be able to get a good reading. To deterine the difference in altitude between your house and another location, set the reference altitude to 0 at your house, and then check the reading when you arrive at the other location. When ountain clibing, you can input the altitude fro a arker as your reference altitude, which will then let you know your altitude as your clib proceeds. The following conditions will 400 prevent you fro obtaining accurate readings: When air pressure changes because of changes in the weather Extree teperature changes When the watch itself is subjected to strong ipact bout altitude easureents There are two types of altitude easureents: those for displayed data (ltieter Mode easureent) and those for eory data (eory easureents; See Meory easureents ). ltieter Mode easureent This type of easureent is perfored only when the watch is in the ltieter Mode. s soon as you enter the ltieter Mode, easureents are taken every five seconds for the first three inutes. fter that, easureents are taken every two inutes. The display unit for ltieter Mode easureents is 5, and the display range is 0 to The easured altitude ay be a negative value in cases where there is a reference altitude value set or because of certain atospheric conditions. Understanding the altieter display Use to enter the ltieter Mode. Note that once you enter the ltieter Mode, if you do not press any button for 10 or 11 hours, the watch autoatically returns to the Tiekeeping Mode. 1 urrent altitude (flashing) uto eory easureent indicator 2 (ltitude Graph) (Unit: 10 ) LTIMETER FUNTIONS built-in altieter uses a pressure sensor to detect the current air pressure, which is then used to estiate the current altitude in accordance with IS (International Standard tosphere) values for altitude and air pressure. If you preset a reference altitude, the watch will also calculate the current relative altitude based on your preset value. ltieter functions also include data storage eory and an altitude alar. Iportant! This watch estiates altitude based on air pressure. This eans that altitude readings for the sae location ay vary if air pressure changes. Sudden changes in the weather ake it ipossible to produce accurate altitude readings. This watch eploys a seiconductor pressure sensor, which is affected by teperature changes. When taking altitude easureents, be sure to do so while ensuring that the watch is not exposed to teperature changes. o not use this watch while participating in sports where there are sudden altitude changes. lso, do not use this watch for applications that deand professional or industrial level precision. This watch should not be used while engaging in the following activities: sky diving, hang gliding, paragliding, gyrocopter riding, glider riding, etc. pplications When no reference altitude is preset: The watch produces approxiate altitude readings. urrent altitude Reaining eory urrent urrent tie teperature 1 The ark next to LTI flashes while a easureent is being taken every five seconds. It does not flash during the easureents taken every two inutes. 2 The ark next to UTO flashes while a eory easureent is in progress. The indicator stops flashing while no easureent is being perfored. Meory easureents Meory easureents are taken independently of ltieter Mode easureents and stored directly into eory (along with teperature easureents) for later recall. There are two types of eory easureents: uto Meory Measureents and Manual Meory Measureents. uto Meory Measureents With auto eory easureent, the watch continuously perfors easureents whenever the inutes in the Tiekeeping Mode reach 00, 15, 30, or 45, until you switch auto easureents off. The watch continues to take easureents regardless of whether or not you change odes, so you can keep a running log of teperature and altitude changes autoatically. Manual Meory Measureents You can use the anual procedure to take a reading anytie you want to store your current altitude data into eory for later recall. Manual eory easureents can be perfored only while the watch is in the ltieter Mode. When a reference altitude is preset: efore beginning the clib, set the reference altitude to 0 at the foot of the ountain. This akes it possible to deterine the difference in altitude between the reference point and your destination.

Each eory ite (auto or anual) stored by the watch consists of the current altitude, plus the date, tie, and teperature. ata is stored in the sae sequence that it is input. Meory can hold a total of 50 sets of data, which is enough to store 12 hours and 15 inutes of auto eory data (if you do not take any anual readings during that tie). Iportant! Further auto or anual eory easureents becoe ipossible whenever eory is full. The essage FULL on the display indicates that eory is full. lways check the aount of eory reaining before starting eory easureents, and delete data if necessary. Selecting uto or Manual Meory Measureent Use the following procedure to switch between auto or anual eory easureent. Note that you cannot perfor this operation while a preset auto eory easureent is already in progress. 1. In the ltieter Mode, hold down until the display clears. fter 4 or 5 seconds, either OFF or the current reference altitude value (if set) will start to flash. The data flashes because it is selected. 2. ress to change the selection in the following sequence. ress. (Reference ltitude Setting) uto eory easureent indicator ress. UTO utton operation becoes ipossible during the 4 or 5 seconds that it takes to coplete a easureent. Noral operation will return once the operation is finished. Setting a Reference ltitude fter you set a reference altitude, the watch autoatically calculates the difference between the current altitude and your preset value. The altitude easureents produced by this watch are subject to error caused by changes in air pressure. ecause of this, we recoend that you set the reference altitude during your clib whenever one is available. 1. In the ltieter Mode, hold down until the display clears. fter 4 or 5 seconds, either OFF or the current reference altitude value (if set) will start to flash. The data flashes because it is selected. The OFF indicator appears when the factory setting is being used for the calibration. 2. ress to increase the current reference altitude value by 5 or to decrease it. Holding down either button changes the value at high speed. You can set the reference altitude within the range of 6000 to ressing and at the sae tie returns to the OFF essage. 3. fter setting the reference altitude you want, press to return to the ltieter Mode. bout the ltitude lar The altitude alar sounds for about five seconds whenever the current altitude atches a preset value. You can press any button to stop the alar after it starts to sound. Note that the altitude alar sounds only while the watch is in the ltieter Mode. Exaple: If you set the altitude alar at 130 eters, it will sound when you pass the 130-eter ark on your way up and on your way back down. To set the altitude alar 1. In the ltieter Mode, hold down until the display clears. fter 4 or 5 seconds, either OFF or the current reference altitude value (if set) will start to flash. The data flashes because it is selected. 2. ress to change the selection in the following sequence. ress. Using uto Meory Measureent uto eory easureent indicator UTO MNUL 1. onfir that the auto eory easureent indicator is shown on the display. If it is not, use the procedures under Selecting uto or Manual Meory Measureent to select auto eory easureent. 2. Hold down until the watch eits a short beep, indicating the start of the easureent. The data easured when you first start auto eory easureent is also stored into eory. The auto eory easureent indicator flashes on the display when you start auto eory easureents. The indicator continues to flash (indicating that easureents continue) even if you change odes. uto eory easureent cuts off autoatically whenever there are 49 sets of data stored in eory. The 50th set of data easured when you stop the easureent operation in step 3 below is also stored in eory. 3. To stop easureents at any point, hold down again until the watch eits a short beep. final easureent is taken when you switch auto eory easureent off, and that data is also stored into eory. Such data is indicated by FIN during the recall operation. Using Manual Meory Measureent Manual eory easureent indicator 1. onfir that the anual eory easureent indicator is shown on the display. If it is not, use the procedures under Selecting uto or Manual Meory Measureent to select anual eory easureent. 2. Hold down until the watch eits a short beep, indicating that a easureent is taken. 3. The Hoe Tie differential shows the difference between the tie in the currently displayed city and the city that is selected in the Tiekeeping Mode. The tie zone that is displayed when you leave the World Tie Mode will still be displayed when you enter the World Tie Mode again. The current tie in all the World Tie zones is calculated in accordance with the Greenwich Mean Tie (GMT) differential for each zone, based on the current hoe tie setting in the Tiekeeping Mode. You can also turn aylight Saving Tie (ST) on or off separately for each tie zone. Turning on daylight saving tie autoatically advances the corresponding tie setting by one hour. The seconds count of the World Tie is synchronized with the seconds count in the Tiekeeping Mode. The 12-hour/24-hour forat of the World Tie atches the forat you select in the Tiekeeping Mode. With daylight saving tie, clocks are set one hour later in order to better take advantage of daylight hours during the suer, when days are longer. Whether or not daylight saving tie is used depends on the country you are in.
