IDENTIFICATION Product: MISTIC ACID SURFACE CLEANER (<25%) Recommended Uses: Uses for MISTIC ACID include the following: Etching of concrete surfaces to give a mechanical key prior to application of surface coatings, or to make surface non-slip. Removal of cement splashes from decorative or exposed aggregate panels and other surfaces. Removal of iron oxide (rust) from steel. Hazard information: Toxic. Swallowing may be fatal and can result in nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, chemical burns to the gastrointestinal tract. Severe eye irritant. Corrosive to eyes. Contact with skin will result in severe irritation or cause skin burns. Harmful in contact with skin. Breathing in mist will produce respiratory irritation. Harmful if inhaled. Harmful to terrestrial vertebrates. Prevention Statements Keep out of reach of children. Read label before use. Wash hands, face and exposed skin thoroughly after handling. Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/face and eye protection. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using this product. Avoid breathing fumes/gas/vapours Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Keep only in original container. Response Statements If medical advice is needed: Have product container or label at hand. IF SWALLOWED: IMMEDIATELY Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician. Rinse mouth. DO NOT induce vomiting. Give a glass of water. IF ON SKIN (or hair): Remove/take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/shower. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. 2 IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously in water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician. IF INHALED: Remove to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. If patient finds breathing difficult: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician. 3. FIRST AID MEASURES Remove victim from exposure - avoid becoming a casualty. Remove contaminated clothing. Allow patient to assume most comfortable position and keep warm. Keep at rest until fully recovered. If breathing laboured and patient cyanotic (blue), ensure airways are clear and have qualified person give oxygen through a face mask. If breathing has stopped apply artificial respiration at once. In the event of cardiac arrest, apply external cardiac massage. Seek medical attention. Rinse mouth thoroughly with water immediately. Give water to drink. DO NOT induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs, give further water. Seek immediate medical attention. Urgent hospital treatment is likely to be needed. Immediately irrigate with copious quantity of water for at least 15 minutes. Eyelids to be held open. Remove clothing if contaminated and wash skin. Seek urgent medical attention. Wash affected areas with copious quantities of water. If swelling, redness, blistering or irritation occurs seek medical advice. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before re-use. Call a physician if necessary. 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES FLASH POINT UNUSUAL OR EXPLOSIVE HAZARDS: Not applicable None. Not combustible. SPECIAL FIREFIGHTING PROCEDURES AND UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS Not combustible, but on heating emits toxic fumes. If safe to do so, remove containers from path of fire. Fire-fighters to wear self-contained breathing apparatus and suitable protective clothing if risk of exposure to product or decomposition. EXTINGUISHING MEDIA Not combustible, however if material is involved in a fire, use water fog, foam, dry agent. HAZARDOUS COMBUSTION PRODUCTS 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES STEPS TO BE TAKEN WHEN MATERIAL IS SPILLED OR RELEASED Clear area of unprotected and non-essential personnel. In case of accidental spill, protective clothing to prevent skin, eye and breathing vapours to be worn. Work up wind and increase ventilation. Contain and prevent run-off into drains and waterways. Use absorbent material to contain. Neutralise with lime or soda ash. Collect and seal in properly labelled containers for disposal (use plastic, not steel). Wash down area with water. If contamination of sewers or waterways has occurred, advise local body or emergency services. ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION Avoid contaminating waterways. 7. Store in a cool location (15-25 degrees C) away from incompatible materials. Keep container tightly closed when not being used. This substance must, if left unattended, be secured so that a person cannot gain access to the substance unless the person has a key or other device used for operating locks. MATERIALS TO AVOID Avoid uncontrolled contact with many metals as hydrogen gas will be liberated. Reacts violently with alkalis. 4 HAZARDOUS REACTIONS Highly corrosive to most common metals with evolution of flammable hydrogen gas. Reacts violently with alkalis (hypochlorite evolving chlorine). Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Do not breathe vapour. 11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION INGESTION INHALATION CONTACT CARCINOGENICITY TOXICITY TO REPRODUCTION: MUTAGENICITY Swallowing can result in corrosion of gastrointestinal tract, vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Swallowing may be fatal. This product is classified as a 6.1D hazardous substance. Vapour is an irritant to mucous membranes and respiratory tract. May cause coughing, choking and inflammation and ulceration of the respiratory tract. Exposure to high vapour concentrations or the acid as a mist may lead to lung damage including pulmonary oedema. Effects may be delayed. This product is classified as a 6.1D hazardous substance. Contact with skin may cause skin burns - corrosive. A severe eye irritant. High concentrations of vapours cause irritation. Will cause eye burns on contact. This product is classified as an 8.3A hazardous substance (eye contact) and an 8.3B hazardous substance (skin contact). Not a carcinogen. Does not impair fertility. Not a mutagenic hazard. 12.
