It announces PADI training standards and procedures changes and their implementation date. Your PADI Membership commitment requires you to keep abreast of PADI standards by reviewing and putting into practice the information in this quarterly update. The Training Bulletin is published quarterly by PADI, Professional Association of Diving Instructors Tomas, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA USA PADI 2012 All rights reserved Training Bulletin Third Quarter 2012 Page 1

Training Standards Revisions Diver Materials Requirement PADI standards require that student divers must have a personal set of current PADI materials for study and use during the course and for reference afterward, to include, at a minimum, the course manual (book, multimedia or online version) unless unavailable in a language understood by the student diver. Exceptions to this included several PADI Specialty Diver courses. Effective 1 January 2013, this requirement applies to all PADI courses that have related course materials; (except for the course manual for the PADI Public Safety Diver course, which is required for the course, effective immediately). This includes specialties and all other courses that are supported by materials. Make this change to the PADI Instructor Manual in General Standards and Procedures/ Training Standards/Materials/Diver: Delete the Exceptions paragraph. Specialty-Adventure Dive Link If a diver enrolled in an Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water Diver course has the PADI specialty manuals for each planned Adventure Dive, this meets the required materials standard for the Adventures in Diving program. The specialty manuals include the required knowledge development and the Knowledge Review for the related Adventure Dive, and thus, are an equivalent to having the PADI Adventures in Diving Manual. However, if the diver doesn t have a specialty manual for one or more of the Adventure Dives, the PADI Adventures in Diving Manual or Advanced Open Water Diver Online is required. Rescue Diver Depth Effective immediately, the maximum depth limit for all skills in Rescue Exercise 4 Distressed Diver Underwater has changed from 6 metres/20 feet to 12 metres/40 feet. Make this change to the PADI Instructor Manual, Rescue Diver Course, Course Standards, Depth: For Rescue Exercise 4: 12 metres/40 feet 6 metres/20 feet Rescue Exercise 6 and Scenario 1 maximum depth does not change: 9 metres/30 feet PADI elearning Quick Reviews Effective immediately, when a PADI elearning student diver scores less than 75 percent correct on an elearning Quick Review, retest using the course final exam. Make the following change to the PADI Instructor Manual, General Standards and Procedures, Paperwork and Administrative Procedures, Knowledge Development Assessment, number 4: 4. Personally review missed Knowledge Review, quiz, exam and elearning Quick Review questions until student divers comprehend the material. Retest student divers who score less than 75 percent on a quiz, exam or quick review. Use the associated course final exam to retest PADI elearners. Have student divers sign and date the document to confirm comprehension. Page 2 Training Bulletin Third Quarter 2012

Ice Diver Training Standards Revisions The PADI Ice Diver course requires three dives over two days. Effective immediately, instructors can plan to carry out all three dives on one day within these parameters: Three Dives a Day If student divers have participated in confined water training that day, they may complete no more than two open water dives. The maximum depth for the third training/excursion dive is 12 metres/40 feet. Completing a third dive in one day is at the discretion of both the student diver and instructor. Take into consideration several factors before planning a third dive for the day including: Task loading of student divers Diver stamina, ability and comfort A minimum surface interval of one hour between each dive and that it is adequate for student divers to rest and prepare for the next dive Adequate student diver rewarming between and after dives. Diver interest, willingness and motivation to participate Adhering to safe diving practices Residual nitrogen Environmental conditions Open water dive duration must meet requirements as listed in General Standards and Procedures divers must spend the majority of time at 5 metres/15 feet or greater, and breathe at least 1400 litres or 50 cubic feet of compressed gas or remain submerged for at least 20 minutes. All training dives are completed during daylight hours and include considerations for planning cold water dives (4 metres/10 feet deeper than actual depth). Please note this change in the PADI Ice Diver Specialty course instructor outline. Also make this edit in PADI Instructor Manual, General Standards and Procedures, Key Standards Summary of PADI Specialty Diver Courses, and under Open Water Dives, number 9: 9. Conduct no more than three open water training dives in a single day, night or combination thereof. Exception: Conduct no more than two ice dives in one day. 4 Training Statement of Risks and Liability Documentation in European Union and European Free Trade Association Countries There is a new form called the Statement of Risks and Liability (EU version product number 10175) that you should use for training conducted in countries that are members of the European Union (EU) or the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) in place of the Liability Release and Assumption of Risk Agreement (product number 10072) and the Statement of Risks and Liability (product number 10072PIL). You may use this updated form in EU and EFTA countries immediately. It s available for download from the Pros Site in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Turkish, Hungarian, Greek, Estonian, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish and Finnish. The Continuing Education Administrative Document (EU version) is also available for download from the Pros Site. Please read carefully and fill in all blanks before signing. This is a statement in which you are informed of the risks of skin and scuba diving. The statement also sets out the circumstances in which you participate in the diving programme at your own risk. Your signature on this statement is required as proof that you have received and read this statement. It is important that you read the contents of this statement before signing it. If you do not understand anything contained in this statement, then please discuss it with your instructor. If you are a minor, this form must also be signed by a parent or guardian. WARNING Skin and scuba diving have inherent risks which may result in serious injury or death. Divemaster CPR-First Aid Requirements As a reminder, it is both a prerequisite and an exit requirement of the PADI Divemaster course for candidates to have current CPR and first aid training. This means that the candidate must have completed an Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care course (or qualifying training) within 24 months of the course start, and within 24 months of divemaster certification. This requirement is confirmed during processing the divemaster application at your PADI Regional Headquarters. If your candidate meets the requirement through proof of training through another qualifying CPR and first aid training organization, be sure to include that documentation along with the divemaster application to avoid unnecessary processing delays. Contact the Training Department at your PADI Regional Headquarters before accepting candidates into the course if you are unsure whether their training meets the CPR/ first aid requirements for the course. Diving with compressed air involves certain inherent risks; decompression sickness, embolism or other hyperbaric injury can occur that require treatment in a recompression chamber. Open water diving trips that are necessary for training and for certification, may be conducted at a site that is remote, either by time or distance or both, from such a recompression chamber. Skin and scuba diving are physically strenuous activities and you will be exerting yourself during this diving programme. You must advise truthfully and fully inform the dive professionals and the facility through which this programme is offered of your medical history. ACCEPTANCE OF RISK I understand and agree that neither the dive professionals conducting this programme,, nor the facility through which this programme is conducted,, nor PADI EMEA Ltd., nor PADI Americas, Inc., PADI Worldwide Corp. nor their affiliate or subsidiary corporations, nor any of their respective employees, officers, agents or assigns accept any responsibility for any death, injury or other loss suffered by me to the extent that it result from my own conduct or any matter or condition under my control that amounts to my own contributory negligence. In the absence of any negligence or other breach of duty by the dive professionals conducting this programme,, the facility through which this programme is offered,, PADI EMEA Ltd., PADI Americas, Inc., PADI Worldwide Corp., and all parties referred to above, my participation in this diving programme is entirely at my own risk. I acknowledge receipt of this Statement and have read all of the terms before signing this Statement. 5 Training Sidemount Configuration in the Open Water Diver Course With the recent release of the PADI technical and recreational sidemount diver courses, instructors have asked if Open Water Diver course students may use this configuration during the course. The sidemount configuration has several advantages, such as the ability to put the cylinder on in the water where it is nearly neutral. For people that find backmounted cylinders stressful on the back, sidemount allows them to dive in a way that may minimize that stress. Sidemount can be used with a single cylinder, or two smaller cylinders that individually weigh much less than a large cylinder. To allow your student divers to use sidemount in their PADI Open Water Diver course, you must: 1. Be a PADI Sidemount Diver Instructor or have a qualifying certification from another training organization. 2. Provide an orientation to using a sidemount-configured kit and provide ample time for student divers to master skills, such as: clipping and unclipping the cylinders to the harness. entry and exit techniques. proper orientation of hoses. weighting techniques that encourage proper trim. While the skills in the Open Water Diver course are easily accomplished in sidemount, take a moment to review some skills, such as entries and exits that may require a slight adaptation. Using either one or two cylinders is acceptable. If using two cylinders, make sure student divers are not task-loaded and can easily manage the weight. As with backmounted diving, be sure the student maintains an alternate air source within the triangle (chin to bottom of rib cage) of the body as described in the PADI Open Water Diver Manual. Linking Open Water Diver Course to PADI Sidemount Specialty Course You may also integrate the PADI Sidemount Diver Specialty course into the PADI Open Water Diver course, as long as it is the only specialty course you are teaching concurrently. Follow these guidelines: 1. Integrate Sidemount Diver course knowledge development and confined water portions of the course into the correlating segments of the Open Water Diver course. Note that Sidemount knowledge development must be completed before the Sidemount Confined Water dive. 2. Integrate the Sidemount Diver course Practical Application session into knowledge development or confined water training. 3. Integrate Sidemount Diver course Dive One skills that do not already correlate to Open Water Diver course skills, any time during Open Water Diver Course Dives 2, 3 or Conduct Sidemount Diver course Dives Two and Three after Open Water Diver certification to complete course performance requirements for PADI Sidemount Diver certification. PADI Sidemount Divers (or those with qualifying training) may use sidemount equipment in other PADI courses as well, as long as the course performance requirements can be met while using sidemount. Exceptions include the PADI Divemaster course and the IDC. Training Bulletin Third Quarter 2012 Page 5

TecRec Tec 100 CCR Diver Launching Third Quarter 2012, Tec 100 CCR Diver is the upper level course in the PADI Tec CCR course series. It builds on the knowledge, skills and experience divers gain during the Tec 60 CCR course. Tec 100 CCR divers are qualified to plan and execute decompression dives using trimix or heliox to as deep as 100 metres/330 feet using up to four bailout cylinders. Minimum Instructor Rating: Tec 100 CCR Instructor Diver prerequisites: Tec 60 CCR Diver* 175 logged dives, with at least 50 dives and 100 hours experience diving the Type T CCR used in the course with off board bailout systems. At least 25 of these dives must be multistop decompression dives deeper than 40 metres/130 feet using trimix or heliox diluent. * or qualifying certification from another training organization CCR Use by Pros and Divers in PADI courses A point of clarification about rebreather use in PADI courses (other than rebreather courses): The First Quarter 2010 Training Bulletin explains use of CCRs while in a supervisory position. It indicates that PADI Instructors and certified assistants who are certified on the unit and have logged at least 50 hours on it, may equip themselves with closed circuit rebreathers (CCRs) when conducting PADI course training dives where indirect supervision is permitted. The other parameters include conducting a risk assessment, carrying a second cylinder of open circuit gas, etc. (Refer to the First Quarter 2010 edition for specific information). A more recent, Third Quarter 2011 Training Bulletin included this Question/ Answer: Q. Can CCR units be used in PADI courses other than rebreather courses? A. Yes, 1) in most courses, as long as course performance requirements can be met when using the unit, and 2) if the rebreather is listed on the register, and 3) if divers have appropriate rebreather credentials. Rebreathers may not be used in PADI Discover Scuba Diving programs, PADI Scuba Diver, Open Water Diver or Instructor Development Courses. This Question/Answer refers to student diver use of CCRs while taking a PADI course. PADI Professionals, personally, must follow the guidelines in the 2010 article regarding using CCRs during PADI courses (other than rebreather courses). Make sure your student divers meet the guidelines in the 2011 Question/Answer if they wish to use rebreathers during PADI courses (other than those where use is not permitted). Page 6 Training Bulletin Third Quarter 2012

Corrections and Clarifications Correction to the 2012 PADI Instructor Manual Summary of Specialty Courses The listing for the PADI Semiclosed Rebreather Specialty Diver course was left off from the Summary of PADI Specialty Diver Courses table on page 25 in the 2012 edition. The text should have been placed in the bottom row of the table on that page. Add the following to the bottom row of the table: Semiclosed Rebreather Diver (Dolphin/Atlantis) open water dives 6:1 Semiclosed Rebreather Specialty Instructor Advanced Open Water Diver++ and Enriched Air Diver Correction to the 2012 PADI Instructor Manual DSD Leader Internship Assessment The Discover Scuba Diving Leader Internship Requirements provided on page 149 of the 2012 PADI Instructor Manual incorrectly identifies the DSD Leader Internship Assessment as being the same as the Practical Application Record Sheet (10149). While the downloadable version of the Practical Application Record Sheet (10149) on the PADI Pros Site does also contain the DSD Leader Internship Assessment, the stand-alone DSD Leader Internship Assessment, and the answer key to it, can be found on the PADI Pros Site under Training Essentials/ Curriculum/Exams and Assessments/Discover Scuba Diving. Correction to the Second Quarter 2012 Training Bulletin This bulletin incorrectly stated that the product number for the revised EFR Instructor Guide is The correct product number for the revised EFR Instructor Guide is Five Star Dive Center/Resort and Course Director Exclusivity Clarification There is an allowance within the PADI Retail and Resort Association Standards for Five Star Dive Centers and Resorts to promote and teach technical diving courses from diver training organizations other than PADI, with written approval from the appropriate PADI Regional Headquarters. This was put in place as the PADI technical range of programs was developed to allow centers to offer a fuller range of diving courses. PADI Course Directors have the same allowance, according to the PADI Course Director Contract. This allowance does not apply to courses designed for recreational divers, which includes the PADI Sidemount Diver and PADI Self Reliant Diver courses. The PADI Rebreather Diver and Advanced Rebreather Diver courses fall under PADI TecRec for logistical reasons associated with rebreather diving; however, these two courses are also recreational diver courses. Therefore, the allowance does not apply to them. Training Bulletin Third Quarter 2012 Page 7
