1 Page 1 of 11 IMPACT ANALYSIS: GB Safety of Information Technology Equipment Technical Editor: Marshal Zhang Senior Project Engineer Product Safety UL-CCIC Company Limited This analysis is intended to identify and analyze the impact of notable differences between IEC and GB standards for Safety of Information Technology Equipment (ITE). In particular, the National Differences in GB is being analyzed and compared to IEC Second Edition 2005, including its First Amendment This analysis will permit persons already familiar with IEC to become familiar with the likely impact on ITE of the latest GB ITE Safety Standards. This analysis will be updated as additional information on the application of the new Standards becomes known. Background IEC is the International Standard for Safety of Information Technology Equipment. It encompasses under its scope information technology equipment, communications equipment, office appliances and multi-media equipment for use in the home, office, business, school, computer room and similar locations. IEC is developed/maintained by IEC Technical Committee (TC) 108, Maintenance Team No. 2 (MT2): Safety and Energy Efficiency of Information Technology Equipment. In China, the ITE Standard, formally designated GB , is based on the Second Edition of IEC , and like its predecessors includes China Deviations to address National requirements not in the base IEC document. Voltage ratings for single phase equipment shall include 220 V; 220V single phase or 380V three-phase is to be included in voltage rating. Voltage rating for three-phase equipment shall include 380 V. For equipment with multiple voltages / voltage ranges, it shall set the voltage rating / voltage range to include 220V single phase or 380V three-phase before shipment The normal ac mains frequency is 50 Hz in China, Unless the equipment is designed for dc only, the equipment shall be rated 50Hz or include 50Hz. 50Hz is to be included in frequency rating.
