4 A. INTRODUCTION A.1 Single Channel Inroducion I ime o Impac your lab! The i he econd generaion of he Impac pipeor family, providing he convenience of a manual pipeor, wih he programming capabiliie of an elecronic pipeor. The pipeor feaure include: Expanded memory for oring up o five pipeing program. Each program can hold a maximum of 40 ep. Scrach Pad programming mode which allow for fa and imple program change ha are no ored ino memory. Enhanced peed conrol offer lower apiraing and dipening of vicou liquid. Excellen for gel loading! EASY CAL which implifie in-lab calibraion verificaion uing diilled waer. The i lighweigh and cordle, uilizing rechargeable baerie, which can be ued while recharging (wih he excepion of ingle channel pipeor). The pipeor alo ha an auomaic hu-off feaure o exend baery life. The ue inegraed circui echnology o ore programming informaion. I will hold up o 40 ep in a program, wih up o 5 program aved in memory, and 1 crach pad (See ecion C.1.1 Open Programming Mode or Scrach Pad ). The program informaion i reained in memory, even if he baerie are fully dicharged or removed. The ue a paced dipene feaure ha perform repea pipeing ep while he rigger i depreed. The ingle channel pipeor are available in a number of model configuraion (ee Figure A-1) from 12.5µl o 1250µl, ranging in volume from 0.5µl o 1250µl. Each pipeor i color-coded wih a color ring for eay volume idenificaion (ee ecion B.5, Pipeor Specificaion). 5 Pipeor Overview B. PIPETTOR OVERVIEW B.1 Componen B.2 General Decripion Keypad. The keypad conain he operaion key ha are ued in programming he pipeing equence and volume. (See Secion B.3, Keypad). Pipeor Overview Diplay. The diplay i an LCD creen ha how he pipeing operaion (fill, dipene, mix, or purge) and fluid volume for each ep in he pipeing program. (See Secion B.4, Diplay). Baery Cae. The baery cae conain he rechargeable baerie. Nickel Meal Hydride baerie fully charge in hour, while Lihium-Ion baerie fully charge in 2 hour. The can perform a full day workload wih no need o recharge. Baery life i exended wih auomaic hu-off afer 10 minue of inaciviy. (See Secion F.3, Inalling/Replacing Baerie). Pipeing Trigger. The pipeing rigger iniiae a program. A ingle pipeing ep i execued by a quick pre and releae of he rigger. Repea pipeing i execued by preing and holding he rigger. The ejecor rigger i preed o ejec he pipe ip from he pipeor. Tip Fiing. The ip fiing form an airigh eal wih he pipe ip o enure accuracy while pipeing. [Purge] The Purge key ener a purge promp anyime during a pipeing operaion o abor he program. By preing he Purge key, hen preing he rigger, you can dipene any remaining liquid from he pipe ip and reurn o he beginning of he program. The Purge key i alo ued o ener he purge ep ino a program. Noe: If here i inufficien liquid for a final dipene ep, he pipeor emi a beep one and auomaically diplay he purge promp. Figure B.3: Keypad RUN The RUN mode perform he operaion ha i diplayed, uch a fill, dipene, mix, or purge. When Run appear in he diplay, you can acivae he RUN mode by preing he rigger. A he end of a pipeing equence, he pipeor emi a riple beep one and reurn o he beginning of he program. The pipeor remain in RUN mode unil you program a new pipeing equence. B.3.1 Operaion Key B.3.2 Programming Key [On/Off] [Prog] The On/Off key urn he pipeor on or off. When he pipeor i urned on, i emi a beep one, flahe ZERO on he diplay, hen auomaically ree he pion o zero poiion. Afer zeroing, he diplay how he fir ep of he program in he RUN mode. Noe: If he pipeor i being programmed for he fir ime, he fir ep will be he fill operaion, wih he defaul fill volume. (See Secion C.1, Programming he, for he defaul eing). The Program key on he enable you o ore up o five eparae program in memory for fuure recall. Each program can hold up o 40 ep. Program are ored in reerved program locaion number 1 5. [Fill] [Dip] [Mix] The Fill, Dipene, and Mix key program he pipeing operaion. By preing one of hee key, you can ener he programming mode of he. The Run promp diappear from he diplay and he appropriae operaion appear wih a flahing promp. Fill, dipene, or mix volume can be programmed by preing he ume key. Alo, he number of mix cycle can be programmed by preing he Mix key wice. Auomaic blowou: A he end of a final dipene ep, he pipeor auomaically expel any remaining liquid from he pipe ip wih a hor bur of air (blowou). Thi delay allow you ufficien ime o remove he ip from he liquid o preven apiraion of liquid, a he pion reurn o zero poiion. The ume key conrol he quaniy of liquid o be apiraed or dipened. The volume can be enered when he promp appear. Pipeing volume can be incremened quickly by coninuouly depreing he ume key. The longer you hold he key, he greaer he incremenal peed. The ume key can alo be ued o change pipeing peed wihin a ored program or during he execuion of a program. (See Secion C.1.5, Adjuing Pipeing Speed). Double beep one: operaion or programming key i no acive in curren mode; inufficien dipene volume, purge required; or illegal programming ep aemped (ee Secion E, Troublehooing). Triple beep one: end of pipeing equence; end of programming equence. There are hree opion o chooe from in eing he beep one. ON1 will have all one ound a he appropriae ime lied above. B.3.3 Special Funcion Key The Special Funcion key i he mall hole below he ume key. I can be acivaed wih a pipe ip. By repeaedly preing he Special Funcion key, you can diplay four funcion: Pipeing Speed (SPd), Beep Tone (TONE), Paced Dipene Speed (PACE), and Calibraion (CAL). To exi he Special Funcion key a any ime, pre he Ener key. TONE The beep one ignal he compleion of one or more ep, or ignal a warning: Single beep one: end of pipeing ep. PACE CAL The pace conrol he peed of repea pipeing (paced dipening), FAST, SLOW or OFF. Pre he Special Funcion key hree ime o diplay PACE and i curren eing. To change he eing, pre he ume key. Paced Dipene. When uing he paced dipene feaure, he pipeor dipene he programmed volume a he pecified pace (fa or low). Immediaely afer each dipene ep, he pipeor emi a ingle beep one (if beep one i on) o prepare you for he nex dipene ep (ee Secion C.5, Operaing Procedure). PROGRAMMING AND OPERATION C.1 Programming he Programming and Operaion Programming he i fa and eay. Pipeing ep and volume are enered in he equence ha hey will be performed, hen he program i aved o memory. Thi program will ay in memory (even if he pipeor i urned off, or he baery run low) unil you change i. Five program and one crach pad (Program 0), each capable of holding 40 ep, can be enered and ored in he. C.1.1 Open Programming Mode or Scrach Pad (Program 0) The provide ample program orage for five, 40 ep program. In addiion, i offer open programming mode, alo known a he crach pad. Thi mode i idenified by P-0, which appear in he program ecion of he diplay (refer o he diplay on page 10). Thi feaure enable quick change o pipeing proocol wihou affecing previouly ored program. To ue he crach pad mode: From he ar of any program, imply begin enering a new proocol (elecing a pipeing operaion a decribed below). Thi new proocol can now be ued, and will remain acive unil a ored program i rerieved. P-0 appear in he program ID ecion of he diplay o indicae ha he (O)pen programming mode, or crach pad mode, i acive. C.1.2 Enering a Program in Open Programming Mode To ener a pipeing program: 1. Turn on pipeor. Pre he green [On/Off] key o urn on he pipeor. The pipeor will beep once and flah ZERO on he diplay while reeing he pion o zero poiion. The fir ep of he curren program i diplayed. Noe: If he pipeor i being programmed for he fir ime, he fir ep i he fill operaion, wih he defaul fill volume diplayed (ee he following able)

The [Mix] key program he pipeor o perform a combinaion of fill and dipene. You can program a mix volume or mix cycle (ingle fill and dipene). You can pre [Mix] once o program a mix volume, or wice o program a mix cycle. Mix cycle from 2 o 9 are available on he. The defaul eing i hree mix cycle. Some programming conideraion for he mix operaion: If he program begin a mix cycle from zero poiion, i will complee he cycle wih an auomaic blowou, hen diplay ZERO. Pre he rigger o reurn he pion o zero poiion. If he program begin a mix cycle above zero poiion (volume i greaer han zero), he fluid i dipened, and he mix cycle begin. The mix cycle will end a he ame volume i ared wih. Alo, he mix operaion will remain in he diplay o i can be repeaed (ueful for erial diluion), unle followed by anoher program ep. To end he mix operaion, pre he [Purge] key, hen pre he rigger. Purge. The [Purge] key program he pipeor o purge he fluid. Thi ep can be enered a a program ep, or i can be preed any ime while pipeing o erminae he program and dipene he remaining liquid. Noe: If he program end a a volume greaer han zero, and he la ep i no a mix cycle, he Purge promp auomaically appear. Alo, he pipeor emi a double beep one o warn you ha ome fluid remain. Pre he rigger o dipene he remaining fluid and reurn o he beginning of he program. Example of pipeing program wih differen mix ep are hown in Secion C.2, Programming Example. 3. Ener volume. Repea ep 2 o 4 unil all programming ep have been enered. 6. Save program and exi. When he diplay flahe all operaion key, pre [Ener] o ave he program and exi he programming mode. The pipeor emi a riple beep one o ignal he end of he programming equence. The fir ep in he program i diplayed. Run i diplayed in he lower lef corner o indicae ha he new program i ready o be run. C.1.6 Reviewing he Program Afer programming he pipeor, review he programming ep: 1. Se pipeor for RUN mode. Enure he pipeor i in he RUN mode ( RUN appear in he lower lef corner of he diplay). If he diplay i flahing all pipeing operaion, i i ill in he programming mode; pre [Ener] o ave he program and exi. 2. Begin program. Run he program wihou uing pipe ip or apiraing fluid. Pre he rigger for each ep in he program. Upon preing he [Ener] key o ave and exi he program, he new program will be ored under he eleced program number
