Safety Specific safety instructions 2 Information on the risk of injury An example of the risk of injury is as follows: WARNING Type and cause of the risk Consequences if the risk occurs Preventive actions / prohibitions Information on potential property damage An example of the risk of potential property damage is as follows: NOTICE Type and cause of the risk Consequences if the risk occurs Preventive actions / prohibitions 2.2 Specific safety instructions Personnel safety System activation In case of fire or if the automatic extinguishing system activates spuriously without a fire, evacuate the protected zone as per the rules, i.e. before extinguishant is discharged. Ventilate the protected zone at the earliest opportunity after extinguishing the fire. If the zone must be inspected prior to ventilation, this task must be carried out by authorized personnel (fire brigade, security service, etc.) using appropriate equipment to protect them from toxic gases from combustion. Evacuation Evacuate protected zones immediately when the alarm horn and light warnings activate, and before the extinguishant is discharged. Do not allow anybody to enter the protected zones during and after the release of extinguishant, with the exception of authorized individuals such as site safety managers and the fire brigade, with personal protective equipment. 9 46
2 Safety Specific safety instructions Extinguishant storage room Extinguishant cylinders Install the cylinders in a secure, clean, well ventilated, well lit room, protected from exposure to adverse conditions (rain, direct sunlight, significant variations in temperature, etc.). Store extinguishant cylinders at a stable temperature between -20 C and +50 C. Always store the cylinders with their protective cap. Secure the cylinders using straps or place in a stillage (and strap in the stillage). Check that the cylinders can be replaced and serviced at any time: check that the cylinders can be freely accessed. Installation, commissioning and maintenance WARNING Accidental actuation of pressurized products Risk of injury due to moving parts Work on pressurized parts must be carried out by Siemens authorized specialized installers or by technicians working under the direct instructions and supervision of specialized installers. Comply with national requirements and regulations on accident prevention. Carrying out technical work on the automatic extinguishing system, make sure that it cannot be actuated. Switch the system to safety mode for this purpose. Always assume that the cylinders are pressurized. Handle and treat empty cylinders as pressurized cylinders. Never move a cylinder not fitted with its protective cap. If tools such as a ladder are necessary, check that they are safe and suitable for the task. When starting up ECP, ensure that it cannot possibly be actuated (refer to the extinguishing control panel manual). Ensure compliance with all points stated in the "System functional test"
Safety Specific safety instructions 2 Functional system test Carry out the following operations as part of the functional system test: Take all necessary measures to prevent accidental actuation of the system. If the system or equipment is tested by a third party, work with the designated individuals. Ensure that activation of the automatic extinguishing system cannot cause personal injury or damage to the systems installed, or cause the release of any extinguishant. Adhere to the following instructions: Use the correct actuation power supply. This is generally the power supply of the installation. Only test the operating devices up to the interface (relay with blockage option). Check that only the control devices to be tested are activated. Before testing the alarm devices, ensure everyone is aware that alarms will sound, but that it is a test and that no action should be taken. Before carrying out the tests, inform staff of the risk of noise. Before testing remote alarm transmission, inform the receiving stations of the expected alarm and fault signals. Modifying a system The modifications to the system and to products can lead to defects, malfunctions and safety risks. Prior to any addition or modification, obtain written confirmation from Siemens and the corresponding safety organizations if appropriate. Spare parts and products Spare parts and products must comply with the technical data defined by Siemens. Only use components specified or recommended by Siemens
3 Fitting the pressure gauge Checking the pressure gauge 3 Fitting the pressure gauge Tools Use the following tools: open-end wrench, 14 mm, thickness 4 mm 3.1 Checking the pressure gauge 1. Check that the selected pressure gauge is suitable for the planned use: operating pressure, switching threshold, measurement range. 2. Check that the pressure gauge supplied is complete and intact: apply the following stages for this purpose: Remove the protective cap. Check that the support washer (1) and the o-ring (2) are not damaged. If necessary, refer to paragraph Pressure gauge repair [ 43] to replace. Check that the support washer (1) and the o-ring (2) are fitted in the right order: the support washer (1) is on the pressure gauge side, with its concave side in contact with the o-ring (2); the o-ring (2) is on the valve side
Fitting the pressure gauge Fitting the pressure gauge on the valve Fitting the pressure gauge on the valve 1. Comply with and apply the instructions for selecting and fitting pressure gauges (standard EN 837-2). 2. Remove the cap from the valve port. 3. Screw the pressure gauge into the valve port, to the stop, using a 14 mm open-end wrench. 4. Adjust the direction of the pressure gauge so it can be read: do not loosen the nut by more than one rotation. WARNING Fragile precision instrument, handle with care Never use the unit to screw the pressure gauge on. Always use the tightening nut under the unit and a 14 mm open-end wrench to screw the pressure gauge on. Replace any pressure gauge after an impact, e.g. if dropped
4 Electrical connections Cabling principles 4 Electrical connections 4.1 Cabling principles Monitoring line cabling depends on the following parameters: the type of automatic extinguishing system: inert gas systems or CO2 systems; the type of pilot system: master cylinder, 200 bar pilot cylinder or 42 bar pilot cylinder; the type of pressure gauge: contact pressure gauges in the MANOB480 range using extension cables from the MANOCAB range, contact pressure gauges in the PRESCO range use connecting cables from the TOR range; the ECP used: XC10 or X100. The cabling principle applied will depend on the above combination of parameters. How pressure gauges work Extinguishant cylinders for automatic gaseous extinguishing systems are fitted with contact pressure gauges from the MANOB480 or PRESCO ranges. Each with their own operating principle: MANOB480 contact pressure gauges: the contact closes when the pressure in the cylinder drops below the switching threshold; PRESCO contact pressure gauges: the contact opens when the pressure in the cylinder drops below the switching threshold. Complementary products for installing a system using the MANOB480 range The MANOB480 range can be completed with: MANOCAB extension cables, MANOEOL end of line devices. Complementary products for installing a system using the PRESCO range The PRESCO range can be completed with: TOR-UNIT connecting cables
