2 Outline Drivers for MPD: 1. Safety of personnel in remote operations 2. Twelve (12) of sixteen (16) wells Carbonate projects 3. Safely handle gas in riser compared to diverter safer for personnel - protect environment from diverting 4. Ability for < 8.5 ppg SBM to drill clays in Carbonate 5. Utilize MPD seal to mimic GOM SSBOP closures during drilling of balloon formations 6. Use ECD to drill / ppg over ECD for connections to efficiently drill well sections less circulate times 2

3 Superintendents Network Teleconference May 21, 2003 (HOU) Participants: G. Anthony, M. Bunyak, S. Furry, M. Brown, B. Carlson, A. Djamil, N. Emery, G. Olivera, E. Harness, J. Orndorff, L. Phelps and E. Dore Deepwater Gulf of Mexico Eddie Dore Since our last teleconference call, the Discoverer Spirit Drillship has completed drilling the Bohr #1 well, Mississippi Canyon Block 637, in 4066 of water. The well was drilled to 26,900 in 122 days, which were 38 days over AFE days and approximately $22 million over budget. There were many Unocal Deepwater records set on this well, such as 10 casing string (including two expandable strings that both leaked) to get to TD, losing approximately 60,000 bbls of SBM, over 250 closures on the annular preventer during drilling making connections on the stack due to ballooning plus well control incidents, etc. We were not proud of any of these records but as you can see in below attachment, we still out performed most of the competition. The Shell s Deep Mensa well took a total of 350 days. 3

10 MW / ECD / ESD / LOT / SBP 1.5 ESD and ECD in the 6 1/8 section After the good LOT result (14.91 ppg), MW was increased to 13.9 ppg and back pressure maintained at 685 psi; (value close to agreed allowable pressure 750 psi); Hence MW was increased to 14.1 ppg and back pressure reduced to 525 psi. Max ESD ppg (18824 ), max ECD ppg (19485 ). The last ESD (19646 ) is lower than the previous one despite increased SBP. Possibly due to momentary drop of SBP (see figure next page) or downhole cause. Note that in this section ESD has always been higher than the ECD, by choice of avoiding pipe connection gas that may have interfere with potential formation gas from reservoir. ESD was very close from surface leak-off pressure, but no losses have been observed while drilling. 10

Made a pipe connection at 14989ft and drill ahead to 15030ft. Performed SIT for 5 minutes, drill ahead to 15078ft and performed circulation. After 85minutes of circulation, the ECD and SPP were tend to decrease, followed by the increase in Flow return and 12bbls gain in active pit when the gas increase to maximum 2826 unit. This gas was a connection gas from 14989ft. Gas cut mud 1.0ppg was observed at gas peak. (please refer to plot#1&2). Continued to circulate and decided to increase the MW from 10.5ppg to 10.8ppg by adding barite into the active pit. During circulation, observed a trend of decreasing in ECD and SPP. Performed Flow Check (F/C), trip tank gain 3bbls/3min. Shut in the well and monitor the pressure: SICP=180psi and SIDP=150psi after 15minutes. Pumped 10.80ppg mud to kill the well with Wait & Weight Method. The gas during pumping through choke was high and steady at 2100unit, as per calculation this gas was coming from below the BOP. Concurrently, displacing the riser with 10.8ppg mud, and observed the SIT gas was 2455u, F/C was 3342unit came from the riser; the background gas was steady at 1500unit after 10.8ppg mud around. Shut in the well, SICP=SIDP=0. Open the BOP, and continue circulate with 10.8ppg mud. The maximum bottoms up gas was 2769u with background steady at 700unit. Performed SIT with 10.8ppg mud, and circulate increase MW to 11.0ppg. The SIT gas was 503u, BG 463u, 40unit ABG. The background gas was then decrease to 250unit after 11.0ppg mud around. Spot 1000ft of 15ppg LCM (from 15078ft to 14078ft) and pump out of hole to casing shoe, pump another 40bbls of 12ppg LCM at shoe before pulled out of hole to surface. 13

22 Niko Diamond Weatherford MPD Conclusion Drilling to target depth of 19,685 would not have been possible with planned casing program without MPD Drilling with MW less than PP is most efficient use of MPD on higher density wells. Higher SBM on connection than ECD also only allows flow while drilling. Initial installation and cost of $ 7.255MM allowed well to be drilled +/- $ 18MM under AFE and kept complete control during any gas intrusion events Time and cost due to initial use of $ 5.8MM should be down +/- 20% after three (3) wells to $ 4.6MM est. TEAM BUILDING BEFORE WELL = SUCCESS 22
