2 Drill Structure This drill evaluates the team s ability to execute a precision-type search pattern, using either SINS or paper based as primary means of navigation. This drill is imposed after the boat is underway; standard underway preparations shall have been completed and evaluated via the Day/Night Navigation & Piloting or Loss of GPS drill checklist. When safe, the instructor will announce the scenario requiring the execution of a precision search pattern. Terminal Performance Objective Given an underway CG boat with an operational GPS/Scalable Integrated Navigation System (SINS), with up to date electronic chart (if used as primary), radar, radio, compass, corrected chart of the operating area, a certified crew operating within prescribed limitations and a SAR scenario with a SAROPS search pattern summary sheet (or equivalent) listing Commence Search Point (CSP) and turn positions, execute a search pattern within the following standards: Plot or enter CSP into SINS. Plot or enter turn points into SINS. Post lookouts, coordinate their areas of responsibility, and provide target description. Start search within 100 yards of CSP and within plus or minus 5 minutes of arrival at CSP. Complete turns within 50 yards of programmed/ plotted positions. Maintain track line within 0.05 NM.
