Establish and Implement a Written Exposure Control plan Write a company Silica plan Written exposure control plan. Establish and implement a written exposure control plan that identifies tasks that involve exposure and methods used to protect workers, including procedures to restrict access to work areas where high exposures may occur
Job Title and Exposer Assessment Employers will need to have job titles for each employee and do an exposer assessment for job title Tile Mechanic Tile Helper Laborer
Designate a Competent Person Designate a competent person to implement the written exposure control plan. OSHA Definition : "Competent person" means one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them e
Restrict Housekeeping Practices Restrict housekeeping practices that expose workers to silica where feasible alternatives are available Vacuum with HEPA

Silica Awareness Training Any employee that is exposed to Silica will need training All training will be needed to be done in the language that the employee is most comfortable with
Testing for Silica Testing for silica will need to be done if the task is not on Table 1 If two rounds of testing are done with controls in place and you find that you are below the PEL you may stop testing
Required to be provided for IF employee wears a respirator 30 days or more a year Baseline examination Within 30 days of assignment UNLESS completed within last 3 years prior Medical and occupational history (DETAILED) Physical Exam, Chest X- ray, PFT (Spirometry Tech), TB testing, any other tests. Conducted every 3 years Offer medical exams
Respirators Respirators must be used if silica dust can t be controlled with water or ventilation This means that a respirator program must be put in place
