Introduction Thank you for purchasing the BC Shackle! This alloy steel screw pin anchor shackle is a highstrength connector designed to work with a number of different slackline specific gear. If you have any questions about using your device, visit our website in the footer of these instructions, or contact us through or phone. Thanks again and enjoy! Breakage Hazard Intended Use Lifetime Never rig your system so that the shackle is forced against something that could break the shackle or what it s connected to. This alloy anchor shackle should only be used with energy absorbing systems such as dynamic webbings, energy absorbers, etc. & slack must be kept out of the system to prevent high impact falls. It is intended for use by medically fit, specifically trained and experienced users. 10 years maximum, but will often be much less depending on conditions and use; it could even be a single use in some cases. Leverage Hazard A shackle or other equipment can lever against a connector (such as a carabiner) and break it, opening the connector and allowing the shackle to fall out. Guard against this at all times! Pinching Hazard Webbing travelling through a webbing anchoring device can suck in hair, fingers, clothing, etc., causing injury & jamming the device. Guard against this. Environmental Factors Moisture, ice, salt, sand, snow, chemicals and other factors can prevent proper operation or can greatly accelerate wear. Inspection Before, During, & After Use Check all parts for cracks, deformation, corrosion, wear, etc. Verify that the pin rotates normally & the axle screw has not loosened. Verify easy removal of the pin. Regularly inspect and monitor your system, confirming proper connections, equipment position, fully locked connectors, etc. Training Thorough and specific training is absolutely essential before use. Being at height is dangerous and it is up to you to reduce the risks as much as possible - but the risks can never be eliminated. There are many ways to misuse this equipment, too many to list or imagine. You must personally understand and assume all risks and responsibilities of using this equipment. If you cannot or do not want to do this, do not use this equipment. Retire from Service & Destroy if it: 1.) Is significantly loaded. 2.) Does not pass inspection or there is any doubt about its safety. 3.) Is misused, altered, damaged, exposed to harmful chemicals, etc. 4.) Screw Pin does not rotate smoothly or fully close. Consult the manufacturer if you have any doubts or concerns. Maintenance & Storage Compatibility Verify compatiblity with other components of your system. Incompatible connections can cause detachment, breakage, etc. Clean if necessary with fresh water, then allow to dry completely. Store in a dry place away from extremes of heat and cold and avoid chemical exposure. Repairs or Modifications Stay Up To Date! Are only allowed by the manufacturer or those authorized in writing by the manufacturer. Regularly go to our website and read the latest user instructions.

Warnings / General Use Guidelines!! NEVER!! GO ABOVE THE WORKING LOAD LIMIT Use as a Rescue Device! Use for overhead lifting! Use for rock climbing! Use un-approved connectors! WARNING!! For Expert Use Only These activities are inherently dangerous and carry a significant risk of injury or death that cannot be eliminated. It is the user s responsibility to obtain specific training and to use it safely. These instructions DO NOT tell you everything you need to know. Do not use unless you can and will understand and assume all risks and responsibilities for all damage/injury/death that may result from use of this equipment or the activities undertaken with it. AVOID Contact with rocks or hard objects Use without adequate training Use with incompatible gear Use in harsh environments Storing without protecting Any device is subject to failure: carefully check before and after each use. You must always have a backup: never trust a life to a single tool. Everyone using this equipment must be given and thoroughly understand the instructions and refer to them before each use. You must have a rescue plan and the means to implement it. Inert suspension in a harness can quickly result in death! ALWAYS Do not use around electrical hazards, moving machinery or near sharp edges or abrasive surfaces. Screw front pin is properly installed Use with approved connectors Inspect before, during, and after use Retire if ever loaded beyond WLL Retire if used for longer than 10 years We are not responsible for any direct, indirect or accidental consequences or damage resulting from the use of our products Neither the manufacturer nor the vendor can be held liable for direct or indirect physical, property, consequential or collateral damage arising from the use of this device. Use this device at your own risk!

Shackle Assembly, Temperatures, & Point Loading Ensure that the pin is correctly screwed into the shackle eye. Ensure that the pin is of the correct length so that it penetrates the full depth of the screwed eye and allows the collar of the pin to seat on the surface of the shackle eye. Incorrect seating of the pin may be due to a bent pin, too tight fitting thread or misalignment of the pin holes. Do not use the shackle under these circumstances. Never replace a shackle pin except with one of the same size, type and make as it may not be suitable for the loads imposed. Select the correct type of shackle and its Working Load Limit for the particular application. Should extreme circumstances or shock loading be applicable, this must be well taken into account on selecting the correct shackle. Make sure that the shackle is supporting the load correctly, i.e. along the axis of the shackle body centreline, avoid introduction of bending loads, unstable loads and do not apply overloads. Temperature Point Loading Most of the time the load bearing component that is in connection with a shackle is of a rounded shape. Point loading of shackles is allowed but the minimum diameter of a rounded component should be equal or bigger than the bow size of the shackle being used. Bigger diameters and/or flat parts (at shackle pin side) to increase contact area can be beneficial. Sharp edges should be avoided. If extreme temperature situations are applicable, the following load reduction must be taken into account: New Working Load Limit 100% of original WLL C 90% of original WLL C 75% of original WLL >400 C not allowed Exceptionally hazardous conditions include offshore activities, the lifting of persons and the lifting of potentially dangerous loads such as molten metals, corrosive materials or fissile materials. In such cases a competent person should assess the degree of hazard and the safe working load should be reduced accordingly from the Working Load Limit. Temperature Up to 200 C

Proper Shackle Loading When a shackle is used to connect two slings to the master-point of a slackline, a bow type shackle must be assembled with the slings in the shackle body and the master-point engaged with the shackle pin. The angle between the slings should not exceed 120. If symmetrically loaded the shackle may be used to the full WLL. Side loads should be avoided as well, as the shackles are not designed for this purpose. If side loads cannot be avoided, the following strength reduction factors must be taken into account: Angle 0 New Working Load Limit 100% of original WLL 45 70% of original WLL 90 50% of original WLL > 90 not allowed To avoid eccentric loading of the shackle a loose spacer may be used on either end of the shackle pin. Do not reduce the width between the shackle jaws by welding washers or spacers to the inside faces of the eyes or by closing the jaws, as this will affect the properties of the shackle. In-line loading is considered to be a load perpendicular to the pin and in the plane of the bow. Load angles in the table are the deviating angles from the in line loads. When using shackles in connection with multi-leg slings, due consideration should be given to the effect of the angle between the legs of the sling. As the angle increases, so does the load in the sling leg and consequently in any shackle attached to that leg.

Proper Shackle Loading Avoid applications where due to movement (e.g. of the load or the rope) the shackle pin can rotate and possibly be unscrewed. If such an application is necessary or when the shackle is to be left in place for a prolonged period or where maximum pin security is required, use a shackle with a safety bolt, nut and pin cotter pin. Inspection It is required that the shackles are regularly inspected and that the inspection should take place in accordance with the safety standards given in the country of use. This is required because the products in use may be affected by wear, misuse, overloading etc. with a consequence of deformation and alteration of the material structure. Inspection should take place at least every six months and even more frequently when the shackles are used in severe operating conditions. Shackles should not be immersed in acidic solutions or exposed to acid fumes or other chemicals that are potentially harmful for the shackle. Please be aware that these types of chemicals are used in certain production processes.

Misuse Guidelines Do not add tension to the BC Shackle if the pin is not fully closed! Do not side-load the BC Shackle! Doing so can greatly reduce the strength and damage the BC Shackle and whatever it is connected to. Do not attach the pin-side of the shackle to anything that has the potential to move or shift positions! This can cause the pin to unscrew! Be aware of your angles while rigging with the BC Shackle! Large angles can drastically reduce the working load limit of the device. Be aware of what you are attaching with the BC Shackle! Do not attach anything with sharp edges as it can damage the shackle. Be aware of your system WLL! Do not ever exceed the WLL of your entire system!
