Hydrographic Solutions Survey Capabilities High Resolution Multibeam Surveys Multibeam VERTICAL Transducer Configuration Multibeam TILTED Transducer Configuration DEEP WATER MULTIBEAM SURVEYS Extract from a High Resolution hydrographic survey covering over 21,000 hectares. Full seabed coverage, 2m to 80m depth. SHALLOW WATER MULTIBEAM SURVEYS Adjustable transducer configurations to Optimise data collection in shallow water conditions and around structures INTER-TIDAL RIVER - High resolution surveys - Object detection, seabed texture and mapping of riverbed features 3D Visualisations & Fly-Throughs
Underwater Construction Surveys ROCKWATER/BREAKWATER CONSTRUCTION High resolution multibeam surveys to assist with all phases of the underwater rockwork component of marine constructions. The hydrographic surveys are modeled to provide 3D visualizations which can be compared to design to ensure contractual obligations have been met and to assist with the optimisation of site plant and placement methods. UNDERWATER MARINE STRUCTURES A fast sonar sounding rate generates up to 25,000 points per second which creates a very high resolution multibeam dataset. This enables detailed underwater visualisations to be constructed which can be used to assist with the development and monitoring of underwater structures and to display the interactions of the structure with the surrounding sea or riverbed. ROCK PLACEMENT - Monitoring of intertidal and underwater rock dumping operations DEBRIS DETECTION-Monitoring and detection of navigation hazards around underwater construction sites
Hydrographic Solutions Survey Capabilities Dredge Support/Monitoring Surveys DREDGE MONITORING Cutter Suction dredging during port development works. Multibeam surveys enable full seabed coverage which allows precise quantities to be computed, no information is missed. The information and resultant imagery can be used to reassess progress and alter dredging operations to optimise dredge depths and efficiencies. TRAILER SUCTION HOPPER DREDGE MONITORING Monitoring of sand winning operations carried out by the port s TSHD dredger the Brisbane. Multibeam surveys are required to monitor and measure the removal operations with the data being telemetered back to the vessel to assist with efficient dredging operations.. GRAB DREDGER MONITORING Monitoring of sand dredging of lease operations.
Side Scan Sonar Surveys DEEP WATER ANCHORAGE The above chart extract displays a full 100% seabed coverage multibeam model which has been enhanced with side scan imagery. This technique allows additional texture to be displayed showing defined areas such as areas of rock or sand. HMAS BRISBANE MUDJIMBA, SUNSHINE COAST- Hydrographic survey of HMAS Brisbane. The vessel was scuttled to be used as a dive site and lies in 30m of water. The Side Scan imagery provides an almost photographic representation of the vessel and was used to enhance the multibeam data collected at the same time.
Infrastructure Surveys Pipeline & Cables DETECTION OF A DAMAGED PIPELINE The high resolution multibeam systems the port operates allows clear distinction of each section of this damaged pipeline. This clarity assists with diver and removal operations PIPELINE REMOVAL Multibeam surveys were used to detect and monitor the excavation and removal of a disused pipeline. PIPELINE SCOUR This multibeam survey clearly shows a buried pipeline which has become uncovered due to seabed scour. The survey is used to position maintenance barges to rectify the problem EXPOSED CABLES- High definition images are able to be produced due to the high ping rate and multiple beams available within the system. 512 individual beams sound up to 50 times a second each which merge to produce full seabed coverage. The data was used to detect the physical location of this cable which has become exposed due to river flooding..
Hydrographic Solutions Survey Capabilities Infrastructure Surveys Bridge Pier/Pile Inspections BRIDGE PIER INSPECTIONS- The above series of images (various locations) display multibeam data in Point Cloud format. This is a very useful method to display the results of surveys around structures, such as bridge piers and piles. Digital terrain modelling is not used in this method and the images are generated by using and displaying only the soundings as they hit the structure.
ARTIFICIAL REEFS ARTIFICAL REEF Monitoring sand movement ARTIFICAL REEF Old Navigation buoys & beacons. ARTIFICAL REEF - The artificial dive reef consists of 24 vessels/barges and thousands of concrete pipes, tyres, pontoons & old navigation buoys. The placement of the objects took place between The high resolution multibean survey displays the position, orientation and depths of the objects in addition to detailing the surrounding seabed texture and presence of fish populations. ARTIFICIAL REEF- Point cloud multibeam survey of the ex-tuna boat which was scuttled and placed in the reef. HMAS BRISBANE MUDJIMBA SUNSHINE COAST- Hydrographic survey of HMAS Brisbane. The vessel was scuttled and is used as a dive site and lies in 30m of water. The multibeam data can be enhanced with Side Scan imagery, collected simultaneously, to provide and almost photographic representation of the image.
Magnetometer Surveys SEA SPY MAGNETOMETER ANCHORAGE SURVEYS - A full magnetometer survey was carried out in conjunction with multibeam and side scan methods to provide a full solution for detecting seabed and subsurface objects. 22 objects were detected and removed from designated anchorage sites. MAGNETOMETER DEPLOYMENT An innovative design by the port allows safe and quick deployment of the equipment FULL SURVEY SOLUTION The images above are identical areas with the left displaying multibeam and side scan imagery and the right image displaying the corresponding magnetic fluxes of the surface and subsurface geology. ANCHOUR DETECTION - Magnetic flux generated from a 7 tonne anchor lying below the surface in 25m of water. SENTINEL BASE STATION The port s complete self contained long-term magnetic monitoring station to improve the accuracies of offshore survey activities
Hydrographic Solutions Survey Capabilities Sub bottom Profiling and Seabed Classification Surveys SYQUEST BATHY 2010PC - Sub Bottom Profiler processing and control unit (left image) and sonar head (right image) installed on the survey vessels. Recent projects included sub-surface pipeline detection, for location and depth of burial and dredge support surveys indentifying areas of hard and soft materials to assist with optimising dredging activities SEABED CLASSIFICATION SURVEYS These specialised surveys are used to characterise the seabed and its habitats including the material composition of the seabed using acoustic backscatter SEABED CLASSIFICATION SURVEY- Results from a detailed survey, close to the port, to determine the seabed types. Multibeam backscatter data was utilised. THE INVESTIGATOR One of the Port s fully integrated hydrographic vessels carrying out a simultaneous Multibeam, Side Scan, Sub Bottom Profiling and Seabed Classification surveys SEABED SAMPLING This information is used to calibrate and validate the backscatter data.
Hydrographic Solutions Survey Capabilities Beach & Seabed Profiling and Sand Migration Monitoring BEACH REPLENISHMENT SURVEYS - Multibeam surveys, with the transducer in its tilted configuration, allows high resolution data to be collected in the shallow water sloping areas within the beach zone. Sand migration and areas of erosion and deposition can be monitored. SEABED MONITORING The above images show the results of 3D multibeam surveys, commissioned to monitor sand wave migration (upper and lower left) seabed texturing (upper right) and shipping route profiling (lower right)
Object Detection & Clearance Surveys NAVIGATIONAL HAZARD Dislodged tree caught on the river bank DEEP WATER SEABED OBJECTS Testing the capability of the multibeam system. Detecting the location of 11 containers, lost during a storm event, in 134m of water SUNKEN VESSELS Object detection and removal TRACKING A SUBMERGED WATER TANK Locating a lost Vehicle SEABED OBJECTS (Bottom Image) A yacht sunk during the floods is clearly depicted by the multibeam system including the fine detail of the shrouds.(top left & right) Pipes, beacons and tyres.
