Absolute and Relative Altitude - This watch measures both absolute and relative altitude. - Absolute altitude is the altitude difference between the current altitude and sea level. - Relative altitude is the altitude difference between the current altitude and the relative ground (where a relative altitude is reset to zero). Example: - Point A: The absolute altitude is 980 meters; the relative altitude is 980 meters. (The relative and absolute altitudes are the same unless the relative altitude is reset.) - Point B: The absolute altitude is 1,980 meters; the relative altitude is zero meters (set as a relative ground). - Point C: The absolute altitude is 2,980 meters; the relative altitude is 1,000 meters. (set as relative ground) 17

Relative Altitude - The relative and absolute altitudes are the same unless the relative altitude is reset to zero at a reference point (e.g., the starting point of a trail). Switching Between Absolute and Relative Altitude - When the absolute altitude display is exhibited, hold down the L/R button to exhibit the relative altitude ("REL" icon will flash temporarily). - Hold down the L/R button for about three seconds to change the display to relative altitude ("REL" icon will stay on). - When the relative altitude display is exhibited, hold down the L/R button to exhibit the absolute altitude temporarily. - Hold down the L/R button for about three seconds to change the display to absolute altitude. Setting and Calibrating the Absolute Altitude Why Calibrating is Needed This watch, like most altimeters, calculates altitude by air pressure. Thus changes in air pressure will also affect the altitude reading of the watch. To achieve a more accurate altitude reading, the watch needs to be recalibrated from time to time as air pressure may vary, even in a short period. This watch includes a calibration for this purpose. 18

Normal and Fast Sampling - When the Altimeter mode is selected, the Altimeter starts sampling altitude by the fast sampling rate (one sample per second) for a fast sampling period. After that, it switches to normal sampling rate (one sample per minute). - The fast sampling period (default: one minute) can be set by the user. * Note: Fast sampling gives a faster response for altitude changes, but it consumes more power than normal. Where to Calibrate the Altimeter - Calibrate the altimeter at a place where the altitude is determined (e.g., a place with a marked altitude pole). - Input that altitude into the watch during the calibration. How to Calibrate/Set the Altimeter - In Altitude mode (absolute altitude), hold down the M button to enter calibration display. - The selected digits will be flashing on the display. Press the M button to select among the different settings (altitude adjustment, adjust confirmation, and fast sampling period). - When one of the settings is selected, press the S/S or L/R button to change the setting value. Hold down the S/S or L/R button to change the setting value faster. - When the setting is made, hold down the M button to exit the setting display. 19

Why Reset the Relative Altitude This watch can measure relative altitude by setting the relative altitude to zero at a reference point, like the starting point of a trek. The watch then exhibits the relative altitude (gain or loss) continuously during the travel. How to Set the Relative Altitude to Zero - In altitude mode (relative altitude), hold down the M button to change the display to calibration display. - The selected digits will be flashing on the display. Press the M button to change among the different settings ("reset relative altitude," "reset confirmation," and "fast sampling period"). - When "reset relative altitude" is selected, press the S/S or L/R buttons to reset the altitude to zero. - When the setting is made, hold down the M button to exit the setting display. 20

G) ALTITUDE ALARM MODE This watch includes two altitude alarms Altitude Alarm 1 and 2. The user can use one alarm or both. These two alarms work independently, with the following features: - When the alarm is on, beeps will sound when the user passes upward or downward through the set alarm altitude. - When the alarm sounds, press any button (except EL) to stop the sound. Examples: Case I: Altitude Alarm 1 beeps when the user passes through points A and D. Set 980 m as the alarm altitude. Alarm is turned on. Alarm beeps at points A and D. 21

Case II: Altitude Alarm 2 beeps when the user passes through points B and C. Set 1980 m as the alarm altitude. Alarm is turned on. Alarm beeps at points B and C. Case III: Altitude Alarm 1 beeps when the user passes through points A and D. Altitude Alarm 2 beeps when the user passes through points B and C. Set 980 and 1980 m As the alarm altitude. All alarms are turned on. Alarms beep at points A, B, C, and D. 22

G) ALTITUDE HIKING MODE Ascending and Descending Altitude This watch includes a hiking function which records the ascending and descending altitude during hikes. When the hiking function is turned on, the watch starts accumulating all ascending and descending bits into an ascending or descending display. The user can monitor these two readings to manage their hike. Examples: - For hike A to E, the ascending altitude is the sum of AB, CD, and DE, while the descending altitude is BC. - For hike E to I, the descending altitude is the sum of EF, FG, and HI, while the ascending altitude is CH. 24

Altitude Hiking Mode In Altitude Hiking mode, the display exhibits the total ascending or the total descending altitude and the current time. How to Switch Between Ascending and Descending Display In Altitude Hiking mode, press S/S to switch between ascending and descending display. How to Turn Hiking Function ON and OFF - In ascending or descending display, press the L/R button to switch the Hiking function ON and OFF. - When the Hiking function is on, the icon is exhibited. * Note: Turning on the Hiking function consumes more power than normal, thus the watch will switch off this function automatically after 15 days. How to Reset the Ascending and Descending Altitude In ascending or descending display, hold down the L/R button to reset the ascending and descending altitude. 25

H) BAROMETER MODE In Barometer mode, the display exhibits the current temperature, barometric pressure, and the current time. * Note: To get an accurate reading of air temperature, the watch must be removed from the wrist for at least 15 minutes to prevent body temperature from affecting the result. How to Change the Measuring Unit Press the S/S button to change the measuring unit among different units following the diagram below. 26

Ambient Pressure and Sea Level Pressure This watch exhibits both sea level pressure and ambient pressure. Sea Level Pressure The sea level pressure is the pressure at sea level (zero meters). It will only be affected by the changes of air pressure due to weather. Ambient Pressure The ambient pressure is the pressure at the current elevation. The change of air pressure by weather and altitude will affect the ambient pressure reading. How to Switch Between Sea Level Pressure and Ambient Pressure - In ambient pressure display, hold down the L/R button to exhibit the sea level pressure ("SLP" icon will flash temporarily). - Hold down the L/R button for three seconds to change the second row of the display to sea level pressure ("SLP" icon will stay on). - In sea level pressure display, hold down the L/R button to exhibit the ambient pressure temporarily. - Hold down the L/R button for three seconds to change the second row of the display to ambient pressure. 27

Calibrating Sea Level Pressure Before Calibrating the Sea Level Pressure For calibrating the sea level pressure, call up the observatory station to get the local sea level pressure. * Note: Inputting an incorrect pressure into the watch will result in an inaccurate pressure and altitude reading in the future.
